Crazy how desensitized everyone there is. People being interviewed within hours of their loved ones dying and they look composed and altho u can see some sadness they know that it's normal and life will go on. Try walking up to a person in a good neighborhood and talk to them after their loved one was just murdered. I imagine u wouldn't get an interview and if u did, the person probably would not be able to contain themselves. Sad that this is how poor people live in a day to day basis.

It's not the gangs itself, it's how they are brought up. Gangs within gangs kill each other. It's part of the social framework, just like Mexican cartels. They are brought up this way. Once you understand organized crime element & gain respect. They respect you for life. Just like in Mexico, you gain trust, they trust you for life. Once you lose that trust your own organized crime personal will pursue you. It's like anything else, it's about respect first. Just like in Mexico. It's about educational limits, lack of education propels more organized crime element personal. It's all they know, leaders in the organized crime element personal work very quickly for earning power, than they control their own organized crime element to work for them, in order to survive.

You should read a little Chomsky on the subject and read some history.
Mario Rafael look you started off good and it made sense what you were saying until you started comparing that s******* place you call a country to the US come on bro you could do better than that it's not the US's fault that El Salvador is a piece of s*** country
No u misunderstood Marvin. He meant that he in specific was being discriminated against because of his outward appearance. In El Salvador the crack down on gang activity is so strict that if u have tattoos that could be enough to put you in jail for being in a gang or worse even if you haven't done anything. Not defending those MS criminals by any way tho just wanted to clear that up
It pissed me off to see my parents home town in disarray. I remember visiting as a kid ( I went about 8 times) and it was safe enough to let kids to go to a store a couple of blocks away from their houses and back on their own at one point. I haven't visited in 6 years and this happens... I even saw my grandfather's grave at the end 😡
Ive heard crazy crazy stories about that. My friends dad still goes crazy sometimes. Cries. Asks for his friends idk crazy stuff. Do you have any stories.
Put the whole country under lock down. Send the army and clean out the ms and the 18th if you want to these gang killings otherwise these gangs only get more stronger and violent
mooseman.ent u don’t get it, the government want to do that but the gang members’ families are getting in the way of the law by hiding and help them in every way from the police, and the mothers aunts cousins of the gang members are also members themselves and give all kinds of info to those parasites criminals, so how do u think that country will come to a solution, when even when all families are involve and are responsible for their he murders in that country. The solution here is to eliminate the whole family not just the gang members their families also.
Wow, so let me get this straight. A MS 13 gang member is complaining about being mistreated but they are the ones murdering people and they have disappeared. The police can't do there jobs because they have no support. The police needs to reach out to the government and demand assistance from these gang members. I really am concerned about these people.
It's a nice country with some pretty cool places to see. I visited once with a Salvadorean friend. It's sad you'd never get to see the country of your roots. My parents are from Mexico, and although I was born and raised in the US, I feel a special connection to Mexico. It's still my culture.

I am LOVING this series (I am Salvadorian-American) but at 0:55 your playing Middle East music vocals to relate the audience watching this cow-walking-through-the-road scene to a typical similar scene that would happen in the Middle East, as through El Salvador and the Middle East are related... Maybe you should've played some indigenous music instead of trying to correlate the audience to the Middle East, which El Salvador is not, come on Vice... But I am feeling immensely grateful for the picture you are painting of what my dad risked his life to leave El Salvador to come to the States. I deeply and personally appreciate this series, thank you
given all of these issues there how can we be sure that those coming over the border are not a danger to us in the u.s? in part 2 they talked about 10yr old hitmen, we hear it is just kids coming over. to us a kid is a kid but there it seems that kids are something else entirely....
"Haven't committed any crimes?" What was that they said, again, that you had to do in order to join the gang? Kill somebody? And sometimes it could be just some random person that isn't even part of another gang. Anybody who can be identified as an MS-13 gang member should be automatically imprisoned, period. Maybe then people would think twice about joining them.
My dad is from usulutan countryside. The violence began prior to the gangs and was started during the civil war in El Salvador where the government military (funded by the US Reagan administration) killed many civilians. This is one major reason why so many people emigrate to the US.
I give this journalist props lot's of respect for interviewing these losers I personally wouldn't waste my time or risk my life these monsters are not important or worth it !! My heart goes out to the innocent people beign murder
Yeah, I bet these losers are often orphans from a civil war exported by the United States via training to boy soldiers who then got asylum in United States ( a nice way for the states to cover up their tracks) Once in the states they could not get jobs and then turned to gang life. Once convicted of a crime they were then exported back to El Salvador where many orphans looking for father figures were waiting. It’s complicated … but my point is, poverty, war, and genocide for the sake of European colonialism takes a toll. This is part of that toll.
It's great that now that nowadays, in El Salvador, more and more gangs are getting arrested. President Nayib Bukele is doing a spectacular job in finally ending the 30+ years of living in fear, the innocent being manipulated by these ruthless gangs.
I was born in Usulutan El Salvador, I’m a USA citizen now. I left when I was 3 and went back when I was 13. Let me tell you that I had to wear old clothes and no jewelry because my aunts were scared some MS members would something to me. I haven’t gone back sense then and not thinking of going back because it’s gotten worse.
lmfao Usulutan is where I'm from, I visit twice a year... it's pretty bad.. but as long as you dress poor and don't speak english, you'll be fine. also don't go out after 5.
When youre member of a murder gang it doesnt make a difference weather you killed the people yourself or not. You got to be punished as well, for being a member of the murder gang.
I just spent a couple months there and I'm glad to say things are much better now in 2021 where I never really felt in danger where I was able to go out at the night for socializing when yrs back I wasn't able to
My heart hurts so much this is where I was born in this exact place I thank god everyday my father decided to bring my mother and I to the United States I love my country but it hurts to see so many people dying every single day :(
Hahahahahha the U.S.A trained boy soldiers to be ruthless killers. The USA, United fruit company (now Chiquita) and a few wealthy landowners is WHY this exists today in El Salvador. Read a history book.
Min 1:26 the skinny guy in the back just to go to school with me hes name was Erick AKA salchicha and in 2015 he just despair till this day he’s family still looking for him is sad but that’s how I just to live life in El Salvador
Craziest part about it is that when out there you could be getting scoped out by ms or 18 st and not even know it cuz they look lile your average home depot day laborer. Before you know it bam! Your gone. Sucks because el salvador is truly a beautiful country with pristine beaches and delicious sea food and fruits! But im not far from usultan and have been there many times and unfortunately the more rural the area the more the gangs can get away with before somebody finding a body.
Costa Rica May be more peaceful than El Salvador but half the population is in extreme poverty and starving so it’s more underdeveloped and ain’t close to becoming high developed
That old man at the end was one of the reasons why people fled El Salvador to begin with. He fought for the American trained militias that stole millions of acres throughout central America creating "The Banana Republic". He's reaping what he sowed. I wonder if he looks at it that way?
What I find funny is how much y'all ignore their cries for help. Y'all say they're bad, but do nothing to show them good. If you grow up as a kid around killers, that's normal to you. Just sad how much y'all show sympathy jsut to the people who died but not to the ones who can't change their ways to prevent this. Y'all are honestly just as messed in the head as them. You grow up a different way and have no idea how that feels, but want to speak on it. They told you why the murder rates are so high.

according to GDP the rank will be Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, nicaragua has half of el salvador GDP but they are growing, we gotta remenber most of what C.A. comes from the support and the stablishment of Dictadors by US Gov. since the "Banana Republic" (not the clothing brand) After Central America achive democracy US started to deport thousands of salvadorean who left during the war due to the dictatorship.
Rest in peice
My dad survived the civil war in Salvador
Ive heard crazy crazy stories about that. My friends dad still goes crazy sometimes. Cries. Asks for his friends idk crazy stuff.
Do you have any stories.
My brother was in the guerrilla at 15. Now he lives in TJ a happy family man.
They sure do like saying "Verdad"
+FPSGameClips Yeah it's like saying "right?" or "you know?" :P
Right? .........
Knawmean? Knawimsayin
Hahah cabal
FPSGameClips it’s like Americans saying “like” what’s the big deal?
And now …
My beautiful country and people are finally getting Justice .
🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻NAYIB BUKELE 🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻
Amen 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
Indeed, such a beautiful country to visit!!
U ain't shit on the ground, that's a fact
shut up bro
@@randy6358 make them.
Wow, so let me get this straight. A MS 13 gang member is complaining about being mistreated but they are the ones murdering people and they have disappeared. The police can't do there jobs because they have no support. The police needs to reach out to the government and demand assistance from these gang members. I really am concerned about these people.
The real VICE is back. It's been a long time coming
Imagine shoving a camera in someone’s face once they found out a loved one was murdered... so disrespectful!!
I’m from usulutan and I recognize all these places. My childhood environment and even the cemetery my family is buried at. 😕
For Real , I used to b from Usulutan El Mirador , I feel you brother , my sister was buried at San Dionisio , cuídate bro
Gracias a Dios todo eso va a cambiar en mi país 🇸🇻🙏🙏
ya cambio bastante amigo gracias a DIOS
Anyone from 2019 and from el salvador
this is my parents homeland and i never plan on visiting it thank god my parents left in the early 80s who knows what kind of life i would’ve had
Your one of the lucky ones pal
Yep.
what you see here is not what the country is all about, there's rich and educated people there too yk
It's a nice country with some pretty cool places to see. I visited once with a Salvadorean friend. It's sad you'd never get to see the country of your roots. My parents are from Mexico, and although I was born and raised in the US, I feel a special connection to Mexico. It's still my culture.
The new president of El Salvador has put an end to Las Maras.
Mi presidente NAYIB ♡
They cant just do it like that this will never end
Felix Coto
Yu need to go back to school do you know he's background middleeastern arab in central america your out of your fucking mind
I deeply and personally appreciate this series, thank you
danm nice catch bro. they tried to subliminal message the shit out of this.
damn had to go back and check but youre right
+Garry Santos its salvadoran not salvadorian dude
+911sanitarium its however you want
given all of these issues there how can we be sure that those coming over the border are not a danger to us in the u.s? in part 2 they talked about 10yr old hitmen, we hear it is just kids coming over. to us a kid is a kid but there it seems that kids are something else entirely....
they should lock the doors and set that prison on fire
+oscar gonzalez thats mean :(
+Amanda Flores oh hey Amanda. How are you?
oscar gonzalez im doing good and you im trying to stay warm :D
+Amanda Flores Sun is pretty warm where im from. Beautiful day to be honest.
oscar gonzalez Lol its like 50 here its gonna snow on Tuesday
Please VICE news make sure Mr. Gold stays safe, he does impressive work.
En el 2:12 dice "ta' perro eh" como diciendo "It's Hard" y no "each other like dogs" que es más "se matan como perros"
El dialecto
I just about to comment about that lol
+Luiso Torres I was confused about that, as well. Thanks for clarifying!
Was just about to say that too lol
Eso mismo iba a decir. Es dialecto. No se puede traducir todo literal
It's great that now that nowadays, in El Salvador, more and more gangs are getting arrested. President Nayib Bukele is doing a spectacular job in finally ending the 30+ years of living in fear, the innocent being manipulated by these ruthless gangs.
Curious if all those gang members behind the bars in that cell collectively have done even 5 years of honest work..
very good series, VICE. props to this reporter and its beard.
Triste mente lo mismo sucede en mi país.. DIOS bendiga Honduras...
I was born in Usulutan El Salvador, I’m a USA citizen now. I left when I was 3 and went back when I was 13. Let me tell you that I had to wear old clothes and no jewelry because my aunts were scared some MS members would something to me. I haven’t gone back sense then and not thinking of going back because it’s gotten worse.
so scary to know a lot of the people in this video are most likely dead for sharing so much information 💔 may god bless them all
how can anyone see this type of footage and still discriminate against the people trying to flee the country due to violence? it baffles me.
lmfao Usulutan is where I'm from, I visit twice a year... it's pretty bad.. but as long as you dress poor and don't speak english, you'll be fine. also don't go out after 5.
Elizabeth Umanzor I’m from Usulutan too 😂😂
Elizabeth Umanzor I don’t see what’s so funny?
lol yeah my family is from usulutan this video is bullshit
Que triste mi El Salvador, que triste! Que impotencia cuando hubo tanta muerte y sigue, cuando podemos ver a un El Salvador libre de tanto terror!
At 2:20 the guy that said he was from MS and the guy from 18 are cuffed together walking wtf
When youre member of a murder gang it doesnt make a difference weather you killed the people yourself or not. You got to be punished as well, for being a member of the murder gang.
I just spent a couple months there and I'm glad to say things are much better now in 2021 where I never really felt in danger where I was able to go out at the night for socializing when yrs back I wasn't able to
I LOVE VICE N MOST OF THEIR CONTENT. I AM CONFUSED ABOUT THE FRENCH THO! SOMEONE FILL ME IN????
Yall pray for my country❤
Brenda Perez nah I’m good
that's deep as fuck man, holy shit.
I recently went to El Salvador, it is way more controlled now soldiers are everywhere shooting to kill
@rudy melgar damn I hope y'all alright
Usulután: we had 7 murders in 12 hours
Rio de Janeiro: cute

infamous killers complaining about being "mistreated."
9:10, I live in Australia and if I could, I would love to have him here and live a better life
My heart hurts so much this is where I was born in this exact place I thank god everyday my father decided to bring my mother and I to the United States I love my country but it hurts to see so many people dying every single day :(
10:02 homboy lost a tooth 🦷 😭 💀 💀
The watch also with two rings on same hand is how they will find the guy who face was hidden, not smart.
Did the guy say "a mixto" at 8:09?
+StoneCampbellforLife at least he tries lmao
😂😂
I wanna give some of those people hugs man
Watching this makes my stomach hurt because I’m so glad my dad didnt join ms in usulutan.
You're beautiful
You're beautiful lady
Why should anyone help the gangs if there just killing people keep them in cages
The guy David seems smart af
We should have the US military helping these people in Central America instead of having them over in Iraq and Afghanistan
Hahahahahha the U.S.A trained boy soldiers to be ruthless killers. The USA, United fruit company (now Chiquita) and a few wealthy landowners is WHY this exists today in El Salvador. Read a history book.
And that is why you don't disarm the public! These innocent human beings have the right to defend themselves, homes, and family!
Porque No Los encierran Juntos? No que SE quieren Matar?! Mentalidad tan Ignorante de estos Robarle asu gente Luchadora! Rabia Impotencia!
New sub👋🏻
R.I.P to everyone who was killed🙏🙏
This is dead ass gta but in another level
Only JESUS can help us all❤️
My grandparents live there and I'm going there for the holidays. I really don't want to go anymore I don't won't be killed.

DoubleOO amen 🙏🏻
Hide my face show my jewellery, Oh yer ive lost my foot also, Who trained him Magnum P.I.
Min 1:26 the skinny guy in the back just to go to school with me hes name was Erick AKA salchicha and in 2015 he just despair till this day he’s family still looking for him is sad but that’s how I just to live life in El Salvador
More death squads
Craziest part about it is that when out there you could be getting scoped out by ms or 18 st and not even know it cuz they look lile your average home depot day laborer. Before you know it bam! Your gone. Sucks because el salvador is truly a beautiful country with pristine beaches and delicious sea food and fruits! But im not far from usultan and have been there many times and unfortunately the more rural the area the more the gangs can get away with before somebody finding a body.
Nice video! But please also do video about richer or higher developed Latin American countries such as Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador etc. :)
all those countries you mentioned are still underdeveloped
Ive lived here my whole life and honestly nothing has really happened to me.. someone did steal my phone and there was a confrontation near my home once but idk I mean i understand the danger and believe the country is not safe.. you cant go out with a pretty car or nice jewelry, you cant really be showing off your money much cuz chances are youll get robbed.. ppl get kidnapped and killed and its scary.. i honestly dont know if therres a solution for my country...
I hate how they push ppl to talk about gangs... they’ll end up dead the day after if they talk. It’s soo sad 😞 stay blessed y’all
I can't even imagine how these people constantly live in fear. U jst never knw when it could be you. what a sad way to live
I would like to visit again someday but it's real over there. Definitely makes me appreciate my family and life here in the states.
Can you please come back and showcase what big of a change our new gov has achieved in so little time?
Good content, however, I almost always close your videos, once I hear people speaking another language with subtitles, if you would actually narrate translation in English, I think you can triple your views. It is simply not enjoyable to read subtitles...
