I love how Guybrush roasts them in the last verse, but they still go "A Pirate I was Meant to be!" at the chorus as if that was somehow still a legit verse in their heads.

@@yvindnilsen94 Yeah I hear it too, but I got the lyrics from the in-game subtitles, in the game it says "really good", maybe the subtitles aren't so accurate? I don't know. 😅
It's a shame because it's by far one of the biggest highlights of the entire game.

I don't speak a single word of German, but I can only assume these users are discussing the fact that this song was cut from non-English versions of the game because of the rhyming jokes.
Yes! I know all the Monkey Island games back and forth! I have all versions of MI1 from the VGA to the remastered version and including the rare SVGA CD version, but I never knew this gem existed.
To think this has the voice actor that did Scrooge McDuck makes this even better.

I think that it was because it is extremely fun of puns that could not be translated effectively into other languages.
I'm quite sad to have somehow discovered that there is no trace of this in the French dub.

Why can't Haggis McMutton, Cutthroat Bill, and Edward VanHelgen rhyme the word orange?
That's the joke.
NOTHING rhymes with orange. It's a wierd quirk of the English language.
Orange has almost no perfect rhymes. The only word in the 20-volume historical Oxford English Dictionary that rhymes with orange is sporange, a very rare alternative form of sporangium (a botanical term for a part of a fern or similar plant).
