I'll be looking forward to the haul and surprise next week! I just read a new novel by another booktuber, Emmelie Arents at Prose and Petticoats and it was fabulous. I read the 350 pages in one day and I haven't had that happen with a book in a long time. It's called The Painter's Muse and it has mystery, obsession, a touch of magic, and romance in an historical setting of 17th century Venice. I really, really enjoyed it.
Hi Kelly. I'm not sure what I'm going to read next. I will say that I really enjoyed The House of Seven Gables(despite DNF'ing The Scarlet Letter twice). Enjoy the cool fall weather. The temps are ALL over the place where I live. It's supposed to be 58° on Sunday. And by Thursday, it's supposed to be a very balmy 82°😅.

OMG Kelly, that thumbnail is truly awesome. I feel guilty about the Penguin book of Christmas stories, I think I may have encoraged you to get a copy I dont remember. I have an e-copy so of course the font size not a problem. The Chosen was a top five read for me last year. Have no fear it will be positive reading experience. @@nathanfoung2347 I should have waited to see a physical copy of the short stories, because, of course, our independent bookstore sold other short story collections during the holidays last year. But, as you can’t really see my eyes in this photo, it doesn’t matter. I hope you’ll let me know what you think of Juice! Be well, friend. 💛🍂
I hope you enjoy Smiley's People. I aim to read all of John Le Carré eventually too. I've read the Karla trilogy already, but I re-read Tinker Tailor a few months back and now I'm pondering whether to re-read the other two Karla books as well. Decisions are hard! 😅 That looks like a lovely selection of festive books, I hope you have fun with them! 💜
I've read The Chosen twice, once at about nineteen (part of the required and recommended reading from the rabbi who did my first conversion, in my first year or so of living a Jewish life), and the second time about eight years ago. It holds up very well, though as a non-sports fan, I was kind of bored by the long, detailed descriptions of the baseball game in the first chapter. I recently saw the movie adaptation, and was annoyed they significantly changed some things and outright invented others. When I first read it, I had no personal experience of Orthodox life, so a lot of things were alien to me. Learning about something through reading isn't the same as actually knowing it firsthand. Many people outside the community think all Orthodox Jews are the same, though the book makes it obvious what profound differences there are between the Modern Orthodox and various sects of the Chasidic community. I'm currently still reading The Hemptameron, and planning on doing a video about my thoughts so far. It's not quite as captivating and diverse as The Decameron, and most of the characters have radically different attitudes towards love affairs (attitudes I wouldn't expect from the French at all!).
Hi Kelly! So good to see a new video from you! Those look like some really good choices for upcoming reads, I would like someday to explore further Nathaniel Hawthorne, Chaim Potok, and Daphne Du Maurier (that's funny, I very recently watched Alfred Hitchcock's film of "Jamaica Inn," which was actually better than I expected it would be...though my understanding is it's somewhat altered from the book). Looking forward to your reviews of these books when you do them! From my end, I just recently read "Winesburg, Ohio" and am currently reading Marguerite Yourcenar's "Oriental Tales," which is a quick read and quite a good collection. I have been now eyeing longer reads, with a few contenders--"East of Eden," "The Count of Monte Cristo," "Under the Volcano," but I think the likely candidate will be Keri Hulme's "The Bone People." If you have read any of these, feel free to give me your input...Have a great weekend! Best, Joe
