- Diorama building for the tabletop just got so much EASIER !! In todays video I make a Gondorian building for the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game with a new system that is so easy it might just have changed the way I craft buildings for the tabletop! So many people want to make buildings like this for the table top, but not everyone has the time to develop the skills. This system for crafting buildings makes that whole process so simple that anyone with 1 cm thick XPS foam can do it! This building was made for Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game but the system is equally applicable to buildings and ruins for DND, Path Finder, Mordheim and Warhammer 40k etc

This is such an insane build! I love how many different pieces you managed to work into the build and still have it look totally cohesive. The stairs and colonnade are just so well executed.
Thanks Albert!! The slice and slot are genius mate, I have loads more ideas haha
This is amazing. Your skill is next level, and you're so good for the community propping up other creators and folks helping give us the tools to make this hobby more accessible. Michael, you've outdone yourself again! I don't know how you manage to get these videos out with such regularity and quality while also holding down a job and a family. Honestly, at this point it's a "well if he can do it with all he's got going on, then I can do it too!" type inspiration.
Thanks Mark! There is a fair bit of juggling to do... but yeah, it can be done if you really want to. Takes some figuring out though and also sacrificing things like watching netflix etc haha
@@Nat1videos Ok, backed the kickstarter...having access to the slice and slot STL files will definitely be a boost to my crafting when I finally get a 3D printer of my own!
@@Dr.Sheldor Niiiiiice!!
This city was once the jewel of our kingdom. A place of foam, and beauty, and 3D printing. And so it shall be once more! For Gondor! Great build! 🙂
haha you are alway spot on with the quotes !! Cheers mate ;)
Break out the ale, these men are thirsty!
@@Nat1videos the slice and slot pieces look and work great! I've pledged on their Kickstarter 👍 I've got a lot of Gondor in my crafting future 🙂
@@ItsQuiteCool Nice!! What 3D printer do you have ?
@@Nat1videos I went with one of the physical print options 😅 I can relate to when previous generations were confused by new technology. Happens with all the crypto currency stuff too... Waiting for a friend or even a friend of a friend, friend of a friend's brother or cousin and so on and so forth to get one 😂
Incredible work, as per usual!
The Slice and Slot system looks so damn useful to speed up builds and add great detail, I will definitely be looking into supporting it!
Yeah amn, I was sold on it straight away. Now I have the files they will be popping up in builds all over the place ;D
Cracking job man! I’m loving the slice and slot stuff and can’t wait to give it an go.
Thanks man! yeah so glad Alberts kickstarter has done so well! He deserves it, such a handy idea :D
Great build mate! Those Slice & Slot pieces are genius aren't they? Albert is onto a winner with this for sure. Great idea using the dremel to weather the architraves, stealing that for sure! Discord!!! 😁
Yeah dude, loved the slice and slot as soon as I saw them... Will be making more builds for sure just to fill out my own tabletop let alone videos! Of course man, would love to have you over on Discord :D discord.gg/cufraZbz
Surprised no one’s done it sooner. It’s just how it’s done in real life when you have your rough ins done before hanging doors and installing windows.
nice build, Also the slice and slot looks like something I would use in the future thanks for showing them
Thanks! Yeah, its a real versatile system. So many possibilities and different shaped building you could achieve. Thanks for watching :D
Proxon and printer did all the work for you. Plus the clickbait title. Really lame. Hope the money you got paid to make this ad was worth it, though. Unsubscribed.
Bye :)
So cool, and super neat you showing of all your friend's goods. Tyler's stuff is especially nice, and his customer interaction is brilliant. Nice one, Michael, and a wave to Albert, Tyler, Dene, Benji, and Dave. Gotta love a bit of collab
Cheers Cross! Yeah, a great bunch of lads! Such a cool community :D
Great video mate, that building is GORGEOUS and the slice and slot system is a stroke of genius. Thanks for asking me to be a part of this one 😊
Cheers Dene!!! This will be on its way out to you shortly :D And thanks for the Uruk Hai :D
Amazing build mate looks so good! Thanks so much for the shout out too - looks superb !
Cheers Dave! Those wee statues reall help add so much detail to builds like this :D
4:50 there is a @shiftinglands lad! Hello Gerard!
ohhh yes, the Foam Father himself often joins our Discord hangouts. What a legend :D
Good stuff. I love the light colored building.
Thanks! Yeah me too, the white stone of Gondor is probably my favourite right now :)
Cool system, making crafting accessible to a wider audience. Many probably were always interested in the crafting hobby, but never started due to busy lifestyle and figuring it takes too much time and dedication. Now, it might seem far less daunting. Quality work, especially with something that could be considered to be mass produced. Usually, that might make products less unique and lower quality, but you are proving that there’s versatility and creativity still within this system. When Albert becomes rich and famous through this, hope he remembers the little guys/gals who touted his work in the beginning. 😆 Nice shout outs, all well deserved & with many more still to come. Great to see wonderful regular community members, plus those in chat. Hope you’re keeping well, Michael & all.
Thanks Lora!! great to have you here. Thanks for watching ! Yes you are spot on, this is about giving people more options so that they can jump in and try for themselves. Really glad you enjoyed the video :D
So I'm going to be that guy - I loved the build and seeing the cool stuff you can do with this stuff. I backed the KS, and have the files in my MMF account. but you used a few items that aren't available yet. The corner arch pillar thing, and the half thickness arch are not inluded so far in the stuff from the KS. but i do look forward to eventually getting them.
Yes, I had early access to some of the stretch goals in order tos make my video showing people how to use the system
This is gorgeous, and you always manage to make it look so easy when I know it is absolutely not! I'm so glad you collaborated with Albert. I love his video on using the system for the ruins! He is still in the "show them how to do it" stage as opposed to giving highlights of great work. Amazing!!!
Thanks so much Kim! I am always in two minds about either posting a slower step by step video or videos where I just build and let the footage speak for it self if you know what I mean. I think there are a lot of resources showing the individual steps now available and I am always happy to answer questions if people want to know anything about the process. It's hard balance to find on youtube as people skipping to the part they need effects things so greatly... But these files are just so nice! I hope people really catch on with these :)
Haha. Benji made my spit my drink. Awesome work as always my friend.
haha I had to bleep out the swears lol. He sent me a couple of versions and some of them where unrepeatable 😂
Awesome building!
Thank you 🤗
This looks like a awesome product, thank you for highlighting it. Great video!
Its great!! Very clever design, I am looking forward to seeing what Albert comes up with next :)
Needed an army painted and didn't contact me, I'm hurt 🤣. Only messing they looks like an awesome build
haha please don't be!! It was a straight trade lol. Gonna add some lights to this build and send it off to Dene later in the week :D I'm well up for another collab man, I know we keep talking about it!
@@Nat1videos that is a wonderful idea. Now just to figure out what we're going to colab on 🤔
@@elstonation Yeah the lol idea didn't seem to have legs... Although could pick up steam if we wanted, just not sure it fits the demographic of viewers we share. I'm open to anything. Lets have a brain storm / hangout soon ;)
@@Nat1videos yay hangout session 😁
does this set include digital cutting jigs? I purchased on my mini factory and have the stls for the architecture peices but can’t use without the jigs. It says on their decription these are included but didn’t get them when purchased
The only thing I can suggest is contacting Albert directly on instagram at Microforgeminis.... or make a few measurements and make card board jigs, which is what I did for this video :)
If people are clicking off because of 3d printing, then they need to throw out their tv and go back to radio...
Agreed!! haha but there is a certain faction of the crafting community that sees 3D printing as cheating. I love making stuff from scratch but 3D printing is an excellent tool to help with details etc and even more useful for people who don't have time but still want cool models!
What a beauty. How long did it take to make in total?
Thanks Steve! Honestly I didn't keep track of hrs... it took a few weeks but that was working around life stuff which is pretty busy at the minute. A lot of days I couldn't craft. The longest parts where things like scoring all the bricks etc.. Now that I know the shape, and if I had all the files ready printed annnnnd if I had a free block of time I recon I could easily knock one out in less than 48 hrs.
@@Nat1videos Nice, when it comes to etching out bricks:
I spent 5 minutes a day - on my work's breaktime - using a biro pen on a old polystrene pizza base.
(spending longer than that is an easy way to get a cramp)
After a week or so, I had a fully detailed cobblestone town square (well, more like a circle).
Might be an idea to try something similar, especially since all you need is a pen & foam.
I did end up doing sculpts during my work break too (great because the tactile exercise & taking your eyes away from the screen is a good practice).
It's amazing what you can do in such a short period of time
@@earthmanbrick Yeah man, that little by little approach really adds up! Slow and steady wins the race as they say. It really does show that anyone could get crafting goals achieved if they just start and so it as they go... I hear people often say they don't have time, but there are always moments in the day!
I am a new hobbyist and would love to join the discord to show off a few builds and hopefully get some inspiration 😀
Hey, thanks for watching! Of course, here is a link! Looking forward to seeing some of your stuff :D discord.gg/cufraZbz
Love it. These kits might be what finally makes me get my 3D printer online the modularity is amazing
Definitely do it man! What printer do you have ...?
@Nat 1 videos I got a anycubic photon(i think)in the amazon sale. Also got a wash an cure station in the deal so I really have no excuse
@@jmaccsarmiesofArda Yeah mate, once you get that running you won't stop printing! I'd say you will get more use out of it for terrain than minis seeing as you are strong in to the GW MESBG range... but smash out some terrain ;)
@@Nat1videos Ok I think ill give it a bash, I really need to get some terrain done ive been using the same 5 bits for about 2 years xD.
3D printing is the way of the devil! That way lays only MADNESS! Now that I've got that out of my system I'm going to enjoy the video way more 8)
hahaha I used to be totally like this... Annnnd in some ways I think you are right. But it has it's place, especially for people who don't have as much time to hone their crafting skills to get some finer details. I get that some people will never be converted and i respect that :D
@@Nat1videos Also the secret is NOT 3D printing... but having mates doing the work for you... great... where do I get those?! I have a proxxon, I know where to buy the forbidden resin candy machines... but mates... Never heard those before! Nice video mate. Carry on.
@@SomeDudeOnRUclips haha yes... there is that! Man why not come and join my Discord and make some mates... lots of nice people willing to jup in with a bit of banter and support. Let me know if you are interested and I'll post you a link ;)
@@Nat1videos Heck, why not. But if you send me a link that leads to games workshop I'll be really angry. *g*
@@SomeDudeOnRUclips haha wellll I can't garuantee that someone else won't mention GW. We try and keep it pretty balanced though. We definitely have a few people who hate GW so you won't be on your own ;) discord.gg/cufraZbz
I hope you are able to see this comment, but what printer are you using id like to buy one for LotR dioramas and id like to get the one you have
Hi! So I am using the Elegoo Mars 2 pro :)
This is excellent design. With some modification they could even be used to pimp up cardboard and MDF builds so you don't even need foam. I think you made great use of them here.
Yeah man, definitely could. I can see myself using these with all 3 mediums at once... foam, mdf, 3D printing the lot!! I'd like to see him do a timber range, like maybe Rohan style stuff with viking like carvings etc
@@Nat1videos I can see a lot of kit bashing going on, digital and otherwise :)
I don't think 3d printing should be part of modelling. I mean where do you stop? Why not just print the whole thing and don't bother with the modelling part ? Or just buy the complete building pre-made. Nice build though!!
Thanks for the compliment on the build :) Well each to their own I guess. For me there is a full range of things you can do... I model from scratch Also which I love. My Strategium tower I did in December was modelled completely from scratch. It's all a hobby and there is no competition so I guess these things are all just tools for people to enjoy stuff. I would say the reason not to just print the whole thing is because you can make your own shape and design to the building, you are literally just putting in windows and doors. To print the whole thing would cost a lot also. But like I say, I totally understand your perspective... 3D printing is not for everyone and that is totally cool! Everyone should enjoy their hobby in their own way. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment!!
@@Nat1videos Yes you are right. 2 sides to every argument.
Fantastic terrain! 🔥
Thanks so much! More importantly made so easy by the slice and slot system :D
Your Discord invite doesn't work.
Yeah, sorry about that... it only stay live for a short period of time for some reason. Need to figure that out... here is a working link :) discord.gg/3cPRTcxN
Love those slice'n'slot stl's, backed the kickstarted as soon as I saw it. The jig for stonework is brilliantly simple yet amazingly effective.
I've seen a lot about these slice & slot prints lately, and everyone seems to love them. There is one drawback to them, however.... 1 cm XPS is virtually nonexistent in North America. In the southern regions you can sometimes get 1/2" XPS, but that is still way too thick for using these. Also, all our available foam core is way less than 1 cm thick. The maker should offer some options that fit other sizes of XPS and foamcore. Since you're buds, maybe you could mention this to him.
Hi Brad, I'll mention it! But The maker also has an option where they send out 1cm thick xps foam with your order...
@@Nat1videos Thanks! I bet if he sized a set to work with the ubiquitous Dollar Tree Readi-Board foam core stuff we have in America, his US market would balloon exponentially.
@@bradcraig6676 I'm sure it wouldn't be too complicated an adjustment to make !
