its cool to see Ralph Johnson acknowledge the legendary guitarist Al McKay as one of the core creators of the amazing EWF sound.. its well documented that by 1980 Al McKay and Maurice White could no longer coexist, and after the "Faces" album (1980) Al McKay was out of the group and they never sounded the same again...his signature guitar riffs and rhythm chords were a major part of their music, not to mention his songwriting...if only he and the great Maurice White couldve been the best of friends...*sheds a tear*

So true about Al McKay's importance to the EWF sound. To his credit, Maurice gave all due props in his book and spoke respectfully about Al's leaving the band, taking the high road and remaining the class act we've always known him to be.

I grew up listening to this band, and they are the best. The're catalog of music is proof of wide range musical talent. Listening to it today puts a big smile on my face. If I was to describe their music it would complete positive rhythm and lyrics that will last through generation They deserve all of the success that they have today.
My thanks to Maurice and best wishes. Thank you for sharing your talent to the world.
    Groove on!Thanks
Sways universe for posting it on RUclips

In the 70's, they were lot of great bands but they were three of the greatest Soul bands of all time.
    3. The Commodores
    2. Parliament/Funkadelic(George Clinton)
    1. Earth, Wind & Fire

I agree, and The Commodores should be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

I saw them in concert a couple of years ago at 23. MY Life changed! They were one of the best concerts I've ever been to, and I have seen so many people in our modern times, they just don't compare to Earth,Wind and Fire!

Great interview. Awesome to hear these LEGENDS speak on the grace of God to
continue sharing their crafts through the decades. EWF albums were read from the inside jackets to every inch of the covers. Their music is part of the
soundtrack of my life. Much love...

Interviews like this is a big reason why I am a fan this show. Awesome stuff. Sampling is a good thing for music as long as it is done tastefully. I say this cause it in some respects keep music like this alive. While I know everyone isn't like me and wonder where someone got the idea to sample a song, and to research and listen to the original cuts, but it keeps it on touch with younger generations. Earth, Wind, and FIre musical legends.

Thank you Sway! EWF is my favorite group of all time! My first album I bought as a teenager in jr high was ALLNALL!! Whew what an album!!!!

    • @RJNumber45
      @RJNumber45 6 лет назад

even though i had discovered them in 73 when i first heard "Evil" and "Head To The Sky", ALLNALL was my 1st purchase as a teenager too... when i 1st played it, "Serpentine Fire" had already been on the radio, so it wasnt new anymore...but when "Fantasy" came on afterwards, my soul almost jumped outta my body...never been another song like it in music history...then the kalimba interlude followed by "Jupiter" and "Loves Holiday"...you're right bruh, "what an album"... i would go straight home from school go in my room, close my door, put on my stereo plus headphones (too loud) and play ALLNALL start to finish and envision myself playing Al McKay's rhythm guitar parts...i would do that with every EWF album afterwards well into my 20s...the soundtrack of my life.

Dang, Earth, Wind and Fire! My parents said, Mary J, Kris Kross, Ice Cube and all that stuff is nice, but I want you to listen to this.... Love that 70's soul/funk. It's sad when you have to go back 70 years in order to hear good music. Their book of work is immaculate. Songs that will never go away. I almost never throw the legend word around because it's often misused. Shoot, people think Lady Gaga and them are legends. I consider Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire and people like that legendary. I listened to their little Christmas album. I don't love it, but I like it. Joy to the World and Sleigh Ride are coo', but that's about it for me.

I would never guess that Ralph Johnson begins songs on ProTools. That's what keeps their musicianship so current, they adapt.

Los Relles del ritmo, como estos músicos no creo que para su época, ni los músicos actuales le puedan poner un pies alanté.. ellos se anticiparon a una musica que tal vez todavía hoy día de no ser por ellos, no se conociera ese ritmo.
