That was a great video. It's about time someone shared how they test the distance of these AP. The documentation doesn't say much regarding obstructions, or distance for indoor AP, and the outdoors has just distance (which I assume is line of sight). Again, thanks for sharing your test.
I've tried several methods of extending wifi to the rest of our property and so far this one looks to be the ticket. Should arrive tomorrow. I've been impressed with the reviews I've seen of it so far. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome real test video. I have the 300mbps eap110. I wonder how it will do inside my garage with cinder block and what coverage distance outside the garage will be.
The reason it works better when facing the antenna is because you're acting as a giant RF shield. 2.4ghz is absorbed by water, so trees, leaves on trees, human beings, etc.. 5ghz is a bit less selective about what it's stopped by, it just doesn't like any obstructions. With that said, I ordered an eap110 (same thing but without 5ghz), and your practical review in a real world environment (with some trees in the way, and on a standard smartphone) was what knocked me off the fence and into the buy side. Looks like this will do a much better job at covering 7 acres than my current roaming setup, though I'm still going to have one roaming ap in the barn... Metal roof is worse than a human body for WiFi signals.
@@albusaidi29 I've been using it since a few days after I left this reply. We have some trees on our property too, and I was quite impressed with its performance. To explain, we have a RT-AC3200 in the living room, which is about 30 feet closer than the outdoor router on the side of the house with the weeping willow. When the willow is not in the way, both signals are similar. Behind the willow, I lose the RT-AC3200 entirely (it does have multiple walls to compete with) whereas the eap110 holds a pretty good signal. Line of sight helps. I can turn off the roaming AP in my barn and still get 3/4 bars in there, and that's about 150 feet from the access point and with a metal roof over the barn. So I do recommend it if you need good coverage for longer distances. Huge difference over the indoor router. Also walked the perimeter of the property, there are no spots where I lose more than a bar of signal. Some of those are about 300 feet away (according to google earth), so quite a little beast. Granted, there aren't any other APs in the area to compete with on our channels, so that helps, but still quite impressive. I can barely even see (and usually don't see) the RT-AC3200.. I commented before about mine, and I'm commenting again. Swapped out the antennas on it with some higher gain ones. Be careful doing this, you may actually hurt your coverage.. Gain narrows the beamwidth, and you're trading off 'near' coverage for 'far' coverage by doing this, especially right under it. 5db is a good compromise (and what comes with these by default), but I needed to cover a lot of land as I use it to mow my fields out in the boonies. I had a TP Link range extender I bought a few years ago. It must have a software flaw because I need to reset it spontaneously as it keeps locking up. I would like to replace it, but am a little wary of the TP Link brand since owning it. TW-WA901ND. I updated the firmware and it still keeps locking up every day or two. People found the only solution was to put it on a timer so it would reset itself every day. The question I had was whether it is still working ok?
This device is a wired access point. It may have extender feature but I haven't used them if it does. I've had good luck with TP link overall as a brand. You might have just got stuck with the one lemon. Just buy from a retailer with a good return policy. I just picked up a TP link RE305 extender for home use and so far it's great.
@@bkayfetz Are the security flaws in the RE305 fixed? "AUGUST 2018 Multiple bugs in TP-Link Wi-Fi Extenders From Bad to Worse: Firmware Vulnerability Detection with the Centrifuge Platform by Craig Heffner of Refirm Labs August 13, 2018 This story starts with a command injection vulnerability published for the TP-Link WL-WA850RE Wi-Fi Range Extender. The bug grants a remote attacker complete access to the device, but it requires administrative credentials. Using software from his company, the Centrifuge Platform, Heffner found a more serious bug that allows a remote attacker to completely control the device even without prior knowledge of the administrative credentials. The vulnerability affects multiple TP-Link products, including devices connected to the Internet and therefore susceptible to remote attack. At first, Heffner found tons of calls to strcpy with stack addresses as the destination. Then he put the httpd binary into a disassembler. In the previously known bug, the wps_setup_pin value can be used to exploit both a stack-based buffer overflow and command injection. But, the vulnerable code sits behind an authentication check. So, he looked for HTTP requests that do not require authentication. He got a list of 24 function handlers that do not require authentication. The most interesting one was: /fs/data/config.bin which generates the backup configuration file. Yes, an un-authenticated user can dump a file with the admin password. The config file is compressed and DES encrypted. But, TP-Link has been re-using the same encryption key for years. After decrypting the config file, Heffner found the admin password was stored as an MD5 hash which can be directly fed into the web interface of the router. Attackers do not need to know the plain text password. Heffner wrote: "Thanks to vendor code reuse, bugs like these are rarely isolated to a single product (or even to a single OEM!)." So, he went looking for other TP-Link products that might be affected, again using software from his company that scans firmware for known vulnerabilities. Other vulnerable range extenders are the: RE305, RE450, TL-WA830RE, TL-WA850RE and the TL-WA855RE. Heffner found many of these were directly accessible from the Internet. He developed a proof of concept exploit script that grabs the configuration file, decrypts it, decompresses it, authenticates to the target device, and exploits the command injection bug to start a telnet server on port 8080. It appears that little, if any, work has been done by either researchers or TP-LInk into whether other devices are affected by these bugs. TP-Link was told of all this but there are, as of now, no patches. It is not clear if they responded to Heffner at all. TP-Link TL-WA850RE - Remote Command Execution June 20, 2018 by yoresongo. I can't get to the website to put admin admin in. Do I have to connect to the tp-link access point because If I do I can't it says no Internet connection. Any help would be appreciated
the first time you turn on need to connect it to a router with DHCP. This router will give a IP, something like 192.168.100.60. You need to discover this IP using the Omada APP in android, or using the page of configuration in your router. Then you connect to EAP225 using this IP.
I bought this for 60USD and its range is not reliable. It falters at 25 meters. Any thoughts? Changes in configurations? Too far from the promised 200 meters. My 15 bucks worth of Tenda router had better range.
Just bought one, works fine with its injector, but won't power up when connected to a 802.3af/at switch that currently has 2 other Axis PoE cameras on it working fine. Switch is rated for 60W, cams use 5-10W each. I tried switching ports, cables, everything. Just won't power up. Can you test (with a PoE switch) to see if it really is an 802.11af compliant device, or if you have to use the injector brick.
Funny you mention that. I am now running the EAP outside at a marina. It's running on the supplied POE injector. I am planning on adding a couple of outdoor cameras to the mix and I'm about to replace the injector with a TP-Link POE switch I had lying around. I may get to that tomorrow. I'll post the results here.
This afternoon I swapped out the supplied injector with a small POE switch. The TP Link TL-SG108PE . It worked perfectly. I'll also be adding 1 or 2 Poe cameras. Maybe I'll post a video on the project...
I just set mine up on the balcony to my condo and in trying to broadcast wifi to my pool deck. I'm on the 8th floor so that should be 80 feet, but I'm not getting a good signal at all. Is there anything different I should modify in the settings?
The signal may be linear. The 8th floor is quite high up. You might want to point the antennas at an angle toward to pool if you have it on the balcony and there are no obstructions. If you have this in your condo and not on a balcony or with tress and obstructions, it's going to be hard to get a signal.
Hi Ben, i like it the video very useful ! I would like to use it as an amplifier without LAN cable, only PoE but I did not find it in the descriptions from this direction info. You can help possibly ? thank you very much
Yes. In Ethernet there were always 2 unused wires. Now you can send power over them (PoE) Power Over Ethernet. iirc from 5v to 24v DC depending on the device.
I was planning to buy some Mikrotik to put them on the backyard of my mom's house she's always complaining how bad the WiFi is on the pool side of the house.. But these make a lot more sense for the price.. 😁 Mikrotik got finally beat by another brand on price performance.
Mikrotik wifi is terrible. I have them, cap ac and wap ac. Tried a ubiquity u6-lr recently (bought it for my dad), it alone trumped my both in-house cap ac aps and covered some of the property that mikrotik failed to do. Now going to change my own setup to eap670 or two in the house and a couple of these outdoor ones for the property, with an oc200 to manage them centrally.
sir how can i able to connect outdoor cpe to my router? my TP LINK OUTDOOR CPE cant connect under survey. i refresh many times but there is none. now i cant use my outdoor cpe :(
From TP-Link support: There isn’t a fix amount of maximum clients, as it will depend on the network bandwidth occupied by applications running on each of the clients. According to previous testing, 25 devices will be able to stream video without issues, with 30 devices you may have occasional errors.
ben i bought this eap225 not work properly . 2.4 ghz work only 20 to 30m max and 5ghz band not detected by devices like note 8, ipad or s7 edge apart from laptop . what you think ? i tried everything even updated firmware reset device as well but no luck .
There are a lot of variables in Wi-Fi. Buildings, trees, glass, Steel and especially other Wi-Fi traffic. And interference from other electronic devices. Try calling their support department and hopefully they can help you out. Please remember, I'm not affiliated with tp-link at all. I'm just a guy with a RUclips channel.
In Network, 5ghz wireless is not used for long distance, it is for sharing files and excellent for straming or playing online games. 5ghz is always good to use it in closed area (small distance) , moreover 5ghz wireless has not been detected by some devices especially computers and laptops, because they are designed for only 2.4ghz and their adapters don't support it, in my opinion if your tplink isn't placed in free space , you should to disable 5ghz and use only 2.4ghz.
Very Helpful Video..But I saw the Description online... They give Its Range about 200+meter.. If I use this To My building 5th Floor,Can It Deliver It Proper Range?
I tested a maximum of 90 meters using a cell phone, keep in mind cell phones have very sall antennas in them. There are also issues in Wi-Fi passing through concrete, steel and glass To consider. The only real way to know for sure is to buy one and test it.
I have very little experience with Ubiquiti's products. I hear very good things about them. However I find that their interfaces are highly technical and therefore more difficult to use. Also their support is email only and in my experience they take 24 to 48 hours to respond to emails.
Do you have other considerations about this ap? I want share Network from a home far a 20 meters to other house, but I don't find many reviews about this ap. Thank you.
Hi ben thanks for the review. i already bought this AP and im planning to change its antenna. Can i put 2.4ghz on the other antenna and 5ghz to the other? is it possible?

Hello Ben, I just have a question. Whats the internet speed you get in the park. Planning on getting one of these to get internet in my wooden hut behind the house. Its around 30m away from the house. Do you think I would get a good enough connection to watch RUclips etc from there. Thanks
I thought 2.4 ghz will give a further distance because of the waive properties, but it seems 5ghz is actually farthest !?
So does it need to be wired to the router or can I used it just as extender, would only want to purschase one of these...thank you.
code , pass on right monitor?))
What we also need to know is how many devices concurrent connections this device can handle smoothly..thanks
Been over 4 months and he hasn't answered the question.
he is not seller to answer specs question
Hi, thanks for the video. Just want to ask what is the difference in terms of range between EAP110 and EAP225?
I had the 110 and I notice some difference
Thanks this one of the best reviews I have seen. I bought the older eap 110 outdoor, and it will not form an ip address, so I can't get in to get it working. Any ideas? The tp-link helpdesk told me tocheck the forums. No help there yet either.
Does it penetrate walls? what is the maximum range in open space
Thanks for the very informative video. I bought this unit but not yet setup. Thanks again.
Which program do you used for checked the wifi connection?? Thanks, and great video!!
Wifi Analyzer
Thank you for the great review.
Can you do a video on the captive Portal Function?
I am looking to get something like this (and this model looks good) that will allow for users to login with individual access codes (Preferably one time use codes).
Can you tell me if this feature is available on this model?
hi,there is a solution for that its call omada Controller it works better if you buy the oc200 with it , i have it, great product you can add up to 50 access points and 300 users .. with login
Ever have connection issues when a lot of devices are connected?
so..how do i connect it to a router ? an huawei b310s per example.
Can I assume if you are using a POE switch that you don't need to plug it in. It's just the poe to the one cat5 link and then the other to the unit?
Absolutely correct. TP Link is pretty generous as they include a POE injector with every AP. But my 7 TP Link APs are all on one POE switch.
Thanks for ur video can u tell me which android app for testing u r useing on ur mobile tnx

Multiple bugs in TP-Link Wi-Fi Extenders
From Bad to Worse: Firmware Vulnerability Detection with the Centrifuge Platform
by Craig Heffner of Refirm Labs August 13, 2018
This story starts with a command injection vulnerability published for the TP-Link WL-WA850RE Wi-Fi Range Extender.
This is the initial WPS command injection bug that requires administrative credentials
TP-Link Technologies TL-WA850RE Wi-Fi Range Extender - Remote Reboot April 26, 2018 by Wadeek. It was already known that you can get the backup configuration file without a password

Can pair this with a Google wifi for outside
Hi Sir Ben, just wanna ask the app you are using for wifi analyzer? who's the creator? thanks
nice test man :) thank you .
I can't get to the website to put admin admin in. Do I have to connect to the tp-link access point because If I do I can't it says no Internet connection. Any help would be appreciated
You have to connect to the access point even though it says no connection
Thanks the problem has been sorted it was a dodgy plug
the first time you turn on need to connect it to a router with DHCP. This router will give a IP, something like 192.168.100.60. You need to discover this IP using the Omada APP in android, or using the page of configuration in your router. Then you connect to EAP225 using this IP.
Can i use it for about 150+meter?
Great video, well reviewed
Are the code and password supposed to be publicly visible on your rightmost monitor? I haven't watched the entire video yet.
LOL... I was waiting for someone to notice that. They were temporary codes for a project that changed later that day. Thanks for watching!
Any update on camera ben??
I just set mine up on the balcony to my condo and in trying to broadcast wifi to my pool deck. I'm on the 8th floor so that should be 80 feet, but I'm not getting a good signal at all. Is there anything different I should modify in the settings?
The signal may be linear. The 8th floor is quite high up. You might want to point the antennas at an angle toward to pool if you have it on the balcony and there are no obstructions. If you have this in your condo and not on a balcony or with tress and obstructions, it's going to be hard to get a signal.
Can i connect my phone with distance of 130-150 meters if I install it on on pole 40 feet up from ground ?
i also want to know the same

can i use 30 to 50 meters cat6 outdoor cable with no issue?
Hi Ben, i like it the video very useful ! I would like to use it as an amplifier without LAN cable, only PoE but I did not find it in the descriptions from this direction info. You can help possibly ? thank you very much
I want to know the same. Any ideas ?
Can you Controll the internet speed of connected clients or SSID ??
Solid info, thanks!
The one that goes from POE to Antenna, is that an ordinary Ethernet cable? Didn't know an Ethernet cable can handle electricity.
Yes. In Ethernet there were always 2 unused wires. Now you can send power over them (PoE) Power Over Ethernet. iirc from 5v to 24v DC depending on the device.
@@bkayfetz Cool. Thank you. One last thing. What is the name of that wifi app you are using?

I was planning to buy some Mikrotik to put them on the backyard of my mom's house she's always complaining how bad the WiFi is on the pool side of the house.. But these make a lot more sense for the price.. 😁 Mikrotik got finally beat by another brand on price performance.
Mikrotik wifi is terrible. I have them, cap ac and wap ac. Tried a ubiquity u6-lr recently (bought it for my dad), it alone trumped my both in-house cap ac aps and covered some of the property that mikrotik failed to do. Now going to change my own setup to eap670 or two in the house and a couple of these outdoor ones for the property, with an oc200 to manage them centrally.
sir how can i able to connect outdoor cpe to my router? my TP LINK OUTDOOR CPE cant connect under survey. i refresh many times but there is none. now i cant use my outdoor cpe :(
Great!!! Thats practical approach!!! But can u share speed results as well!!!!???? Like drop on in speed as you go 50m away!!!
what’s the name of the mobile apps you used?
This one is really cool can I use the app and log everyone off of it permanently if I want to?
Hi ben,
Do you have an idea on maximum client to connect through this access point? Please advise, thanks,
From TP-Link support: There isn’t a fix amount of maximum clients, as it will depend on the network bandwidth occupied by applications running on each of the clients. According to previous testing, 25 devices will be able to stream video without issues, with 30 devices you may have occasional errors.
hi sir, what appp are you using to test the distance?
ben i bought this eap225 not work properly .
I'm just a guy with a RUclips channel.
thanxs bin for quick reply .
Can I Use Ethernet Cable as POE Cable?
Yes. Almost any Ethernet cable will work.
Maybe. The only way to know for sure is to buy one and test it. Try and buy it from a store you can return it to just in case.
In minutes 17.57 how to activated distance meter in the wifi analyzer..? Thanks..,
Can we use this indoor?
For big house like 5000sqft
Yes, but TP Link makes much prettier APs for indoor use... Google TP Link EAP245
Hi can you please advise me if which one is better this tplink eap225 or the unifi ac mesh
I have very little experience with Ubiquiti's products. I hear very good things about them. However I find that their interfaces are highly technical and therefore more difficult to use. Also their support is email only and in my experience they take 24 to 48 hours to respond to emails.
how to set this model as repeater? i want extend from my router with this model without LAN connection wired.
I need the same. I saw in the non-outdoor eap225 they have a "network" option that my outdoor dont has. In this network has the option of repeater.
Can I link multiple over mesh
what if EA225 is AP and a CPE router for 200meters?
Do we need to buy two of these to use that internet or just one is good enough ?
Just one
Do you have other considerations about this ap?
I want share Network from a home far a 20 meters to other house, but I don't find many reviews about this ap.
Thank you.
I'd say this AP will do the job for your application..
what app are you using for your wifi analyzer
Really good video. i'm looking one like this.
Hi ben thanks for the review. i already bought this AP and im planning to change its antenna. Can i put 2.4ghz on the other antenna and 5ghz to the other? is it possible?
It's worth a try... If you do it post a video. I'd like to know the results.
any update on changing the antenna?
both are exactlly same antennas' so i don't think it will make any difference hasn't done in my case atleast
Update please
how longest that it still can be connected
Hi Ben, What is the app that measures distance.? Wifi Analyzer I already have it

hi ben
thanks for ur review.
im looking to buy this product for my business.
hows does this product do with 10-15 users? any idea
last time i had problems with eap 120, just not handling it.
I have an EAP225 and EAP200 non-outdoor versions running in one site with over 20 users, but never more than 5 to 7 at one time. They do the job well. I know the 120 is an older model and TP-Link has come a long way in the last couple of years. All that being said, I wouldn't be worried about 15 users in regards to the EAPs. I'd be more worried about the ISP.
Hey sweet channel ☺ Keep it up!
