Yes classic stuff! So amazing how much sound is put together in this song! Steve Howe with the slide guitar crazy, they were so ahead of their time! Talented musicians all around, love Yes!
Hey there Zay! It's been said of Yes that you either get it or you don't--and you get it! You said it exactly right, Yes is a musical experience for your ears. Love your reactions, love your comments. Keep it going!
Thank you…..the Sacred music that is YES. Please continue with the rest of this album in the order layer down……it will all make sense by the end of it. Love, Light and Peace 💛
Going for the One was the first LP I bought of theirs way back in 1981 or so. It sent me down the rabbit hole to other classics like The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge. Great opening track and unusual in that Jon Anderson's lyrics are relatively straightforward and sensical. Love your enthusiasm and passion for the music!
Beautiful reaction Zay, it took me back to that day in 1977 when I first heard the album, pure exhilaration and joy. Another Yes album masterpiece, you will not believe your ears when you hear "Turn of the century" and "Awaken" the latter alongside "Close to the Edge" arguably their greatest works, the remaining tracks "Parallels" and "Wonderous Stories" are also fantastic. Best Wishes
Yes has always been crazy intricate, progressive, virtuoso driven music. Thats what's cool about it.....it melodically ROCKS.....with intellect. This is NOT you average "three power chord" band. Loved them since 1975.
Steve Howe is playing the slides on a pedal steel guitar like they typically use in country bands. You can see it in live recordings of "Going for THE one",
Was in Switzerland when Rick Wakeman was recording parts for this album in a church with an amazing pipe organ. One of my favs. There’s quite a bit of great music on this album. Regards
Yes is truly my favorite band. So much so that I have their logo tattooed on my back along with another Rodger Dean interpretation of DaVinci's plane on the Fragile album. I've been seeing them since 1976 and have never seen a bad show. I've had back stage passes and met the band several times over the course of four decades. Some of the nicest and amazingly talented people you could hope to meet. Years ago they did a concert on DVD called " Yes Symphonic " that has all the big songs along with a full orchestra as back up. Yes's music is so complex in the way it is composed it instantly lends itself to an orchestral arrangement. For all off you Yes fans out there who have not seen it it's a must
I've been a fan of Yes for 50 years or so, and not only is this my favorite Yes song of all time, it's my favorite song of all time, period. It is by far, to me, unequalled in its "headphone-ocity," with magical sounds - primarily courtesy of Rick Wakeman - swirling and cascading around the ears, something the live version does not capture.
"something the live version does not capture" Which is why I always recommend to new listeners of *ANY* artist not just YES to always listen to the original and official studio versions of songs before listening to live versions. There are things that can be done in studio that can't be replicated the same or as well in a live setiing.
Yes is amazing and IMHO very spiritual. Their music has divinity that is performed to perfection. Their songs are a journey thru an emotional landscape of our divine bliss. It draws on your soul so that tears flow only to recover to our happy place. And if you get up and boogy all the better.
@@zayzel2670 you might want to listen South Side Of The Sky album version. The vocals will tell you they sing with the voice of the divine. After all Squire was a choir boy.
As great as this song is, it doesn't even make my Top 20 YesSongs. Great song though. Glad you enjoyed it. Their greatest albums are Close to the Edge, Relayer, Fragile, The Yes Album, Going for the One, and Tales from Topographic Oceans, but their first 2 albums, and a few of the albums that came after these 6, are also great, so enjoy 🙂
Thank you for answering my request!!! I thought you would like this amazing song!!!! Which is the anthem or theme song of my life when I heard it in 1977. I would recommend your next reaction would be Awaken which is the last Finale song on the album "Going For The One," however you did mentioned that you wanted to hear the whole album......if you are set up to hear the whole album.....break your videos down to Part 1 which would be Side 1 on the album.....and then the next reaction video would be Part 2 which would be your second reaction to Side 2 of "The Going For The One" album. If you aren't set up do whole albums.....I would recommend and request you react to "Awaken" which is the closing and last song on the "Going For The One" album by YES. There were many Rock bands out there in the 60's and early 70's that were just as great as Led Zeppelin.......we had many choices on which band we liked the most.......it was very hard.....Yes was that band for me that always Amazed and uplifted me.....I got where they were coming from....and....so will you!!!! I really enjoy your reaction which was great btw......I laughed a lot!!!!!
Going For the One is a straight up happy, feel good song. Also one of my favorites. Dude, I implore you to listen to Heart of the Sunrise. It’s on Fragile, same album as Roundabout. That song will blow you away.
That’s Steve Howe on slide guitar. One of rocks royalty. He makes that slide cry at the end. This is another ‘classic lineup’ Yes album…a latter one. Tormato is also from this era and also exceptional. Listen to Awaken of this same album. It is a ‘religious’ experience. South Side of The Sky of Fragile is another great song…. Actually all classic lineup Yes album up through the 80s are exceptional.
I loved this album in 1977 and saw them play it live in Ahoy, Rotterdam. The next album Tormato I found disappoint however, I prefer their earlier records, and afterwards they made great albums too.
"Awaken" is on this album, Zay! Rick Wakeman plays on the grandest pipe organ you have ever seen in a cathedral in Switzerland. It's an amazing, YES signature EPIC! You wanna ride?
YES are for those who are not afraid of innocence and pure joy and still believe that rock music can be a religious experience that elevates the spirit..
I was born in 72. So imagine as a kid waking up to that tune 7am going to school. We had a cassette radio player with alarm clock. If that doesn't get you out of bed nothing will 🕒⏰
Bro, I have this CD and every Friday afternoon going home from work I rock to this song as a celebration. And from this album, "Wondrous Stories" will also blow you away, beautiful song. The whole album is good though. This type of music grabs me too. Yes, Kansas, Genesis etc. I think may tend to favor the higher intellects.
Hey Zay! You've got to check out "Tempus Fugit" by Yes from the album Drama. When they did that album the singer Jon Anderson and the keyboardist Rick Wakeman had left the band and were replaced by Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes of the Buggles (you may have heard their song "Video Killed the Radio Star"). It's a little different sound for Yes, but still definitely Yes, and it is totally rocking! Definitely one of my favorite Yes songs, and I promise it will be one of yours too!
@@LucasVigor It was Wakeman's opinion too, and I think his view carries more weight than either yours or mine. Anderson had (and still has) a very distinctive voice and was the main lyricist, take both away and you don't just lose one fifth of the band's sound. "Drama" might be a good record, but it's not a YES album, the musical direction of which is why Anderson, and then Wakeman, left. Your analogy with other bands is hardly relevant. Many couldn't tell the difference between Gabriel and Collins as singers, and Floyd eventually became a completely different band after Barrett left. So what?
I think you are ready for the YES epics, 'Awaken' is the one from this album. Most importantly, their earlier work, especiallly 'Close to the Edge' their greatest masterpiece. If you survive that, (I am sure you can handle it, Lol) I then recommend 'The Gates of Delirium' , 'Heart of the Sunrise' and 'South Side of the Sky'
I have covered a lot of songs and can tell you,,this is a SOB to sing. Pretty sure he is at the top of his upper register. How he ever had the durability to tour the YES material is quite amazing. Still sounds good to this day
Yes is the bomb. Can't wait till you start mining "Big Generator" for more bangers. "I'm Running", "Love Will Find a Way", "Rhythm of Love", "Aim High, Shoot Low" are all amazing.
You should check out Heart of the Sunrise off Fragile, emotionally very deep and musically amazing. Someone also mentioned Awaken off this same album and I highly recommend that as well!
Going for the one is also the album's name. I laugh because this whole album is just amazing and I know your just going to be as blown away as you are now by it.
A band is doing great to have a single “top 50” instrumentalist. Yes had a top 50 drummer, a top 10 guitar player a top 5 keyboardist and a top 5 bassist. Jon Anderson’s vocals are an acquired taste for some, but to me he’s a top 10 vocalist. So LOADED with skill and talent but also young guys bold enough to experiment and do wild things.
Buddy, the best is yet to come. Yep, " Awaken ", and " The Gates Of Delirium ". Hear the studio cut of " Awaken ", first, then see Jon Anderson perform it with Todmobile. You'll be floored.
There's an underappreciated Yes song called America which, to my ears sounds a bit like this in that it has a strong guitar groove going on. It is a Paul Simon cover but Yes put their own very unique stamp on it, of course. You also *must* listen to Close To The Edge. It is almost universally considered to ne the pinbacle of Yes and if you like a lot of background sounds going on like on this track I reckon you will *love* Close to the Edge. (Studio album versions for both.)
One of Anderson's funniest, self-deprecating responses to critics who don't understand his lyrics: "Now the verses I've sung Don't add much weight to the story in my head So I'm thinking I should go and write a punchline But they're so hard to find in my cosmic mind So I think I'll take a look out of the window."
Hey Zay…. Here’s one to react to Ozzie Osbourne doing Crazy Train..off of Blizzard of Oz. Randy Rhodes (RIP) plays some blistering guitar licks and the 40+ year old song is still applicable.
Ahahahah!! Is this your Yes' favorite song? Are you sure?! ... I love your reactions to Yes songs since I saw yours to Roundabout ... And everytime it seems to be the best one! 😂
Your Next reaction is "Turn of The Century" which is the second song on this album, "Going For The One," by YES. It very beautiful!!!! Make you cry because it is sooooooooooooooooooo beautiful!!!!
If you have not heard it yet, I would recommend the song "Close to the Edge" by Yes. It is arguably the greatest song in rock history. (It is almost nineteen minutes long.)

I consider this the last of the classic YES albums. After this we go DRAMA which lacks key members like Jon. I though YES was done for good. Then it was eventually followed by the more commercial "90125" with no Steve on strings or Rick on keys. There were later album releases, but the 1970s will always be the YES era to me. Best song? No. We are just grooming you for their best. Get ready for the album-side-length "Close To The Edge". Get ready to go on a wonderful trip. If you want to hear the most rocking song on the 'Going For The One' album, try "Parallels".
Just gotta say, you are one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen. Your beautiful eyes, your beautiful smile, your wonderful positivity. I'm a huge Yes fan and I'm really happy that you like the song. But I'm REALLY happy that a beautiful man like YOU likes the song.

Agreed. Listening to Awaken while on LSD is the best!
@@DarwinsChihuahua No. Watching the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" on acid is the best. ;-) Or should I say "was the best". It has been awhile.
