What makes this performance even more remarkable is that Les had severe arthritis in his fingers. He still played better than most guitarists in the world.
From what I know playing the guitar actually helps with arthritis and most artists played with arthritis when they became old amd could play the same way because they didn't put too much pressure while playing and just had fun
There will never be a class act like Les again. My parents used to see him in East Saint Louis at the many nightclubs there in the 50s. Such a funny man and great guitarist, along with Mary Ford, another class act.
@@jamesstewart3239 well not quite sweep picking notes but more sweep muted notes ... I kind of like this old skool thing of not being so precise .... it;s more percussive than accurate!
29.03.2016 & 29.03.2018 - FB - Monsieur Les Paul avec une superbe interprétation de "somnambule"!! Il avait 90 ans à l'époque de cette performance. A révolutionné le jeu de guitare !! Légendaire !!!
If this song sends you into another realm, you're my kind of person. It's not just a good guitar player, it's someone that can speak to you from his soul to your soul with his fingers. I'm so appreciative of this performance, I hope it speaks to anyone in the future the same way it speaks to me. You can't fake the soul and humanity of a great guitar player, it's timeless.
Many heartfelt greetings GUITAR GREATS. an instrumental song written, recorded, and released in 1959 by American instrumental rock and roll duo Santo & Johnny Farina [an American duo of Italian descent from Brooklyn, New York, consisting of brothers Santo Farina (24 de octubre de 1937) y Johnny Farina (30 de abril de 1941); what with their uncle Mike Dee playing the drums.[2] Prominently featuring steel guitar, the song was recorded at Trinity Music in Manhattan, New York City. @@b33fy89 Like Jeff Beck, stratocaster with vibrato bar .. This is a masterful rendition of Santos & Johnnys 1959 classic. But as immaculate as it is, Jeff Beck's immaculately tuned strat and mastery of the tremelo recreates the Farino steel guitar original so beautifully if your eyes were closed you could not tell that he's not on a steel. Both incredible guitarists & beautiful versions of this classic song.
So this guy's right arm was broken in a near fatal car accident in 1948; the elbow was shattered and irreparable, so the surgeon set the arm at 90 degrees so he could still play guitar. Then with advanced age, he developed very visible severe arthritis ... and then plays like this as a geriatric - respect ...
