Superb talk. Just a shame he incorrectly kept referring to Israel as Palestine during the lifetime of Jesus and his disciples. Israel wasn’t renamed Palestine until a century after the time of Jesus.
I feel you on that topic but I’m willing to give him a pass because he’s doing research in a secular university that has a culture where that’s the name they describe it as. Wrong to do so, but for the sake of clarity he seems to have adopted it.
@@alive_twicedead_once34Oh, don’t get me wrong, the good Wes does far outweighs this mistake; and you’re absolutely right, he’s just following the position of ‘academia’ in its (wrong) use of Palestine before AD135. I have been in conflict because of the dead sea scrolls, especially judas narrative, that he was crucified in the place of JESUS. Because I felt Jesus' presence not long ago so my soul knows, but my mind can't. If you or anyone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. I have to believe I have to have hope especially now.
My Brother ,if Judas died on the cross then our sins are not forgiven and we have no hope. You have been in conflict because maybe sometimes you forget you have an enemy that doesn't want you to have rhe truth .All you need to know is that Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for your sins as he had no sin, otherwise he wouldn't be able to be a substitute for them.Believe on that ,repent of your sins, submit to God and because his holy spirit then will dwell in you ,he will lead you in all truth as he is called the spirit of truth.Pray that he will lead you. That is how I research to differentiate truth from error, because we are flooded with lies all arround us.Mainly test things if it aligns with the word of God.Over the years I collected alot of materials on different topics (BIble versions, archaeological discoveries, exposing aliens and so on)Ask any topic and I can recommend you videos.
Read the bible especially the 4 gospels, and pray to Jesus to reveal himself to you ,when he show himself you will know ,I'm a Baby christian but last year He showed himself to me and changed my life forever,
If Judas was crusified, then we are without hope for the forgiveness of our sins. And because only God himself can forgive us,and only he is holy then he is the only one who can die in our place and forgive our sins.He came to us taking on man's image(became flesh)and died so that he can restore his image in us(his spirit) The Gnostic gospels were exposed multiple times, including in Wes's last debate with Billy. Any clarification you need ,I am here to help.I appreciate honest people who are not afraid to ask questions and being honest with their struggles.
Bishop Ireneus very clearly stated that he chose 4 gospels bc it represented the “4 winds” ie. the Roman wind gods of the 4 cardinal directions (north wind, south wind, east wind, west wind).
It always seemed like people with an ax to grind against Christianity look for things to twist such as claiming Christians picked which books to be included in the Bible or the other "gospels" were lost or tossed out for nefarious reasons. It's their failure to understand that Christianity was already established and church leaders were defending their flocks against the wolves. If pastors taught history to their congregations along with how to properly defend the faith AND people stopped taking all claims at face value, which means testing the spirits, it would have been and be difficult for cults and charlatans like Billy Carson to get a foothold.
My professor in my class on parables said that the gospel of Thomas was written in the first century. Maybe even before the canonical gospels around 60 A.D. It also says this in “re-imagine the world” by Bernard Brandon Scott, which is the book for the class. Why is that date wrong? I want it to be 😅
Why did John need to be born to old parents??? Not only (though most importantly) did it need to be a miracle with GOD’s fingerprints all over him, but maybe there comes a different temperament and perspective that comes from being raised by 2 old souls who have lived through decades of historical turmoil, 2 people who have reached a calm In their marriage after years of personality struggles and arguing and resolving problems, 2 people who have seen many other children in their community who grew up before their eyes and were living examples of what works and doesn’t work in parenting, and, significantly, a pair of adults in their Twilight years who understood that life is incredibly short and that nothing lasts and nothing is more important than the promised salvation and Heaven of the Lord whom they served.
An incredible confidence, bravery, and poignant perspective can come from being raised from parents such as these. A contrite and calm spirit would grow in a child with parents who didn’t base their self-worth from how they looked as parents. A sense of well-being and less stress would generate in the mind of a child raised by parents who already established their career and wealth and also understood that those things were not even close to the stability of Gods promises. And when John’s parents left this earth, John had a very real experience of how short life is, and he had no parental expectations to meet or fall short of, and he had a mission to complete that would be praised by no one but God Himself:
Hi Wes, just a question if you have time: How do we conclude that the apostles (I'm assuming first century and some disciples of Jesus) gave the synoptic gospels to the other churches? Is it not thought that Mark, amongst the NT scholarly community, wasn't written until 70AD? That's just Mark. Matthew was thought to have been written 10-15 years later. If you have time to answer, thank you!
If you wrote a book about the Twin Towers but didn’t mention the 9/11 attacks, it likely means the book was written before they happened. Such a major event would be impossible to ignore unless the book predates it, just as Mark’s Gospel likely predates the destruction of the Temple in AD 70 due to its absence.
Also, all the letters of Paul predate 70AD. Paul does quote Luke - I think twice. Luke's "Acts of the Apostles" places him in Paul's time which makes the gospel of Luke pre-70AD AND pushes the dating of the other gospel back.
@@Sky-xd2nu I think it's pretty obvious now, at least to me, that Paul and Luke were aware of their writings alongside each other and active in each other's lives to some degree.
@cody2901 Sir, it took me an embarrassingly long time to read the opening of Luke and Acts... I often skipped straight into the story. Its questions about the reliability and dating that helped me gain more knowledge of the text.
I’m curious about the “Jewish” names that start with J. Furthermore, would Jesus be considered a Greek/Roman name? I’m not too convinced that a person that resided in Palestine/Israel region would be named John or Mathew.
Remember, we have translated their names to English. Yochanan: The name John that we read in the gospels is an English approximation of the Aramaic or Hebrew name Yochanan which means “Yahweh is gracious
@@RonaldSmith-q2p many names are translated into different languages. I read the Bible in English and Spanish. For example, John is Juan and James is Santiago. The same goes for Greek and Hebrew. They have their own translations
@@RonaldSmith-q2pWe translate (actually transliterate) names because we have an accent tied to our language. This accent affect how we pronounce foreign names and write them to our audience. Even as a language grows some pronunciation changes, e.g. Stephan - Stephen - Steven - Steve Yeshua became Yesous because Greeks had an accent - and then Jesus.
@@RonaldSmith-q2p Because we speak English, we translate all the names to English. Yes, look around online. Jesus was Yehoshua, but in later books, it was shortened to Yeshua. Jesus' name in Hebrew was “Yeshua,” which translates to English as Joshua. However, the Latin pronunciation of iesus, influenced by English phonetics and pronunciation, gradually evolved into the modern English form of the name Jesus, as the delineation between the phonetic "y/i" sound and the "j" was eventually split. If you are speaking to English speakers, use the English name Jesus! Jesus is King of Kings, and Lord of LORDS!

But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.” 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled. 51 A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52 he fled naked, leaving his garment behind. Jesus Before the Sanhedrin 53 They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together There was a huge mob of people and this was just one of the many who was being grabbed by the officers to be arrested , and as the officer grabbed him, he got loose by leaving his garment in the hand of the officer and running away naked.
Romans 8:7 “The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” . John 3:6,7 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit.” “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” . Acts 2:38. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” . 1 John 2:27 “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” .
The gospel of Thomas has a stronger correlation in literal wisdom and teachings about Christ with the 4 canonical gospels than any of Paul's letters, but everyone is okay with Paul and not the gospel of Thomas." Psych! Seek understanding not just breadth of findings and knowledge.
@@EJAY_Contat_Music I’m battling people left and right on this comment section. There’s really only a chosen few that understand a little bit more than the norm. God bless.
@@pedrosaucedo333 I saw the replies on your comment. People condemn what they don't understand. I completely understand the profundity you find in the gospel of Thomas, it's odd for most.
No, God wasn't silent for 400 years. You removed the books where he spoke. Every other Christian in history and in the world besides protestants has all 73 books.
The time between the Old and New Testaments is roughly 400 years long. This period is known as the Intertestamental Period in Protestantism, or the deuterocanonical period in Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. During this time, there was no direct revelation from God or prophetic writing. However, many historical events occurred that shaped Judaism and prepared the way for the coming of the Messiah. According to the Books of Maccabees, there is no explicitly mentioned prophet during the time period covered by the narrative, as it is considered a time without active prophecy, often referred to as the "silent period" between the Old and New Testaments. The text indicates that there were no living prophets during the Maccabean Revolt
You say every other Christian, but even the Jews (for the most part) don't accept the books from the intertestamental period as divinely inspired. It's viewed as history, sure, but not meant for canonization.
Wes Huff wouldnt last two seconds in a debate with Bart Erhman. The fact is that no one know who actually wrote Matthew, Mark and Luke. Once you know that his entire argument falls apart. You cant rely on aposticity for those 3 gospels. There were indeed other early church fathers who disagreed with the two mentioned. The books that early Christians had in their bibles were based on availability not absolute truth. What do you think all the councils were for? They were a locus of control and for unification of the ideals (because they made Christians easier to shepard). I love the Bible and hold sacred its truths but these obfuscations of reality in the early church only hinder faith and connection with God. Tbh they done in service of sola scriptura which is deeply flawed and leaves many vital questions unanswered. Ask yourself this: if early Christians understood the old and new testaments to be covenants with God then why don't Protestants have any authority or make any covenants with God? Huff vs Erhman, make it happen, but if you like Huff you may want to look away.
Good video but what's with the short sleeved t-shirt saying look at my muscles, holding arms up so the muscles pump up, reminds me when I was young trying to make my muscles look bigger which is distracting when your trying to focus on the video
Very Suspect. 1. Gospels written much later than Jesus lifetime. 2. Why were aloe and healing herbs ( not anything brought for dead bodies) brought to the tomb. ? 3. Why would the Creator of the universe demand we nail his kid to wood and kill him, because we were bad boys and girls? Seems silly. 4 The origins of Christianity, the Jewish Bible, portrays a jealous, murderous, slave and gold taking evil deity. Yahweh is a real jerk.
This shows that you really don't understand Christianity at all. 1. Jesus and God are the same. While Jesus is fully human and fully God, he is separate from God. 2. God provided the sacrifice - in essence, himself. 3. The wages of sin is death. In other words, death is required for all who sin, which is all of us. 4. Jesus volunteered to die. God did not force him. 5. Only a perfect human could have been the substitutionary sacrifice on our behalf. Jesus was fully human and fully God. He was perfect. No, God was not a jerk nor was he murderous. Some versus have been taken out of context or misconstrued. In some instances, God destroyed certain cultures because of the abominations that they performed like child sacrifice. There was also thought that some cultures were hybrids. They were not fully human and they did great evil. That is why God had them destroyed. He is the creator. He could have wiped us all out if he so desired, but he didn't.
This entire argument is circular. What's in question is what books the apostles wrote. You can't really answer this question as a protestant because back in the day yall would've been dismissed along with the gnostics.
He also forgets to mention the Nag Hammadi gnostic text were alongside copies of the "canonical" gospels as well and they all pre date any examples of other new testament records we previously had.
Wes I am a Christian and have been on a long spiritual/scriptural journey. I would really love to know your thoughts on Universal Reconciliation. I have come to the conclusion and believe the scripture teaches that ALL will eventually be saved. That the eternal hell / separation from God taught by mainstream Christianity is incorrect and has actually no scriptural merit. That depending on where the word hell is located in scripture it actually can be translated to mean 4 different things. Gehenna, Tartarus, Hades, or Sheol. Most Christian don't even consider that Christ doesn't rule and reign forever as when the last enemy death is defeated Christ hands the reigns back to the Father so that the Father may be ALL in ALL 1 Corinthians 15:28. Id also love to hear your thoughts on Satan and how he was an agent of God in Job and turned into a seeming competing enemy of God by the new testament. Wes I need your brilliance to shine in on my journey please!
The Bible doesn't say that anywhere. If you read Revelation, it talks about the sheep and goat judgment. The sheep are believers, including Old Testament saints while the goats are those who refused to believe. The Bible says they were basically sent to eternal punishment. So no, it does not teach that everyone will be saved. There is a transaction that must be fulfilled. Jesus made it very clear that for anyone to be saved, they must believe in him. He talked about hell more than any other topic. It is a real place and is eternal. If everyone were to be saved, his death and resurrection would be rendered meaningless. If being saved were universal, it would make Jesus a liar, which he is not.
By the way, Satan is an agent of God. God has him on a leash. He can do a lot of evil, but God places limitations on him. He also has to do God's bidding, even if he doesn't want to. Just like all of those who are prideful and arrogant, I believe Satan thinks he's in charge of himself.

if it aligns with the word of God.Over the years I collected alot of materials on different topics (BIble versions, archaeological discoveries, exposing aliens and so on)Ask any topic and I can recommend you videos.
Read the bible especially the 4 gospels, and pray to Jesus to reveal himself to you ,when he show himself you will know ,I'm a Baby christian but last year He showed himself to me and changed my life forever,
I think youre confused? The dead sea scrolls dont mention jesus or judas at all, they're the jewish bokks
Scripture does tell us how Judas died? Not sure y u think that. Not being unkind just curious what would make u think that??? Peace to u
One day we shall debate Huff
Bishop Ireneus very clearly stated that he chose 4 gospels bc it represented the “4 winds” ie. the Roman wind gods of the 4 cardinal directions (north wind, south wind, east wind, west wind).

small question here... if Jesus was died in 33AD, shouldn't his year of birth be 0 AD or something? Rather than 5BC?
The guy that did the Bc timeline didn’t know that Herod died in 4 bc meaning Jesus was born around 3-5 bc

Not only (though most importantly) did it need to be a miracle with GOD’s fingerprints all over him, but maybe there comes a different temperament and perspective that comes from being raised by 2 old souls who have lived through decades of historical turmoil, 2 people who have reached a calm
In their marriage after years of personality struggles and arguing and resolving problems, 2 people who have seen many other children in their community who grew up before their eyes and were living examples of what works and doesn’t work in parenting, and, significantly, a pair of adults in their
Twilight years who understood that life is incredibly short and that nothing lasts and nothing is more important than the promised salvation and Heaven of the Lord whom they served.
Why isn't Peter considered a gospel?
@thegiffordgroup fair point and I've pretty much come to share that view since I asked the question about a year ago.
Also, all the letters of Paul predate 70AD.
Paul does quote Luke - I think twice.
Luke's "Acts of the Apostles" places him in Paul's time which makes the gospel of Luke pre-70AD
AND pushes the dating of the other gospel back.
What was the point of translating the names? What about Jesus? Is that a translation?
@@RonaldSmith-q2p many names are translated into different languages. I read the Bible in English and Spanish. For example, John is Juan and James is Santiago. The same goes for Greek and Hebrew. They have their own translations
@@RonaldSmith-q2pWe translate (actually transliterate) names because we have an accent tied to our language.
This accent affect how we pronounce foreign names and write them to our audience.
Even as a language grows some pronunciation changes, e.g. Stephan - Stephen - Steven - Steve
Yeshua became Yesous because Greeks had an accent - and then Jesus.

Maybe parts, but if the full talks are going up they'll go up on the Apologetics Canada channel (www.youtube.com/@ApologeticsCanada)

Don’t worry Joe Rogan will ask to talk to him soon enough

You are as clueless as Billy Carlson about Christianity.
Spoken like someone who knows absolutely nothing about the Bible…
You're a real bright kid
Are you trying to speak nonsensical? Because u did.
Plz make that make sense.
