If you have two codes to choose for cystometrogram 51728 and 51729 and the physician documented it as a complex cystometrogram then which code you think would be appropriate to use assuming you already review the difference between these two codes? What is your thought process? A complex cystometrogram is combined with both voiding pressure studies and urethral pressure profile studies. Hi Hoang, thank you so much for providing this useful video. I'm confused the question #6 why the answer is 51729. why do you not choose 51728, which is also complex cystometrogram with voiding pressure studies?
Hi Hanh. Congratulations on passing the exam and thanks so much for sharing this good news with me. Don't stop learning because I am planning to bring everyone to the next level after passing the CPC exam. Thank you for your support.
At 11:30 minutes you state that the correct answer for a cystometrogram is 50590, however that is for cystectomy, complete, with ureterioleal conduit or sigmoid bladder, including intestine anastomosis. However for a "Complex cystometrogram with voiding pressure studies the answer I come up with is 51728-51. Which reads as "Complex cystometrogram (i.e., calibrated electronic equipment); indented code reads: with voiding pressure studies (i.e., bladder voiding pressure), any technique with the modifier of -51 which is to be used when multiple procedures are used (51725 - 51798). HELP!
To save time while making my PowerPoint slides, I used the same template and just change the text; however, I forgot to change 50590 from the previous slide to 51729 which I listed it with the key word "with voiding pressure studies" That said, the correct answer to this question is 51729. Now to answer your question, CPT has 51728 (for simple cystometrogram with voiding pressure studies) and 51729 (for complex cystometrogram with voiding pressure including urethral pressure profile, urethral closure pressure profile) so I don't know why you choose 51728-51. You need to recognize the difference between 51728 and 51729; otherwise, you can't use my strategies. I hope it helps.
Hello Sir Hoang! On Question number 8, why did you use the coding pathway - Fulguration, Cystourethroscopy with, Tumor=> 52402,52601,52630 and not Resection, Prostate Transurethral=>52601,52603. I just need your clarification😇.. Your teaching method is one of a kind, I'm learning a lot. Many thanks for your time and for sharing your knowledge to us..
Hi Juanito. In my CPT book, if I look under the mainterm resection, I don't see the subterm prostate but Prostate Transurethral and then it directs me to see Prostatectomy, Transurethal. Also, If I look under the mainterm resection, then Tumor, I don't see the prostate is listed and that's why I follow the pathway that I show in my video. Do you see the subterm Prostate under Resection?
@@codingwithhoang Yes sir Under Resection the only subterm I can see is Prostate Transurethral => 52601,52630 and mainterm Prostatectomy;Transurethral =>52601,52630. I am confused as well. The description never mentioned that they were also doing a urethral pressure profile study. That wasn't mentioned at all. I am confused why 51729 is used based on that logic. If complex always automatically uses both types of studies then when would we ever be able to use 51728? What would the question/report have to look like in order to use 51728? Since I am in training and have not yet taken my CPC yet, I wouldn't have a "coder desk reference book" as suggested. This is still conflicting to me.
I see several replies as to 51728 vs 51729. I still think the answer is 51728. The parent code of 51726 is complex cystometrogram and the indent 51728 is with voiding pressure studies. The 51728 code would read "Complex cystometrogram with voiding pressure studies, any technique." The question does not say anything about urethral pressure profile studies.
@@codingwithhoang My Coder's Desk Reference says "For voiding pressure studies performed in conjunction with a complex cystometrogram (51728), a transducer is placed into the bladder and the bladder is filled with fluid...." "Report 51729 if complex cystometrogram is combined with both voiding pressure studies and urethral pressure profile studies" I do have the 2020 version of coders desk reference so maybe thats why I am confused. Thank you for your help! Your videos have been invaluable to me. I am taking my CPC next week!
Based on the coder's desk reference, 51729 is a COMPLEX cystometrogram (ie, calibrated electronic equipment); with voiding pressure studies (ie, bladder voiding pressure) and urethral pressure profile studies (ie, urethral closure pressure profile). I hope it helps.
For question 6, I still don't get why the code is not 51728. This is an indented code and parent code is complex CMG. The case doesn't say there was urethral pressure profile studies done. I would think its 51728 because the case only reported complex CMG with voiding pressure studies... can someone explain lol
One question Mr. Nguyen, on question #6, (time 11:12) isn't the answer 51728? Code 51728 is an indented code that said "with voiding pressure studies" 51729 says "with voiding pressure studies (ie, bladder voiding pressure) and urethral pressure profile studies". I'm using CPT 2021 code book. thank you.
Question # 6: the correct answer to this question is 51729. It's my typo mistake because I use the same template from my previous slide and forget to change the code. If you listen carefully to what I said during each question, then you should know 51729 is the correct answer.
Thanks for your sharing ,could I have a question about coding ? I have confused about two ICD-10 questions, Could you help me to find out ? 1.Cesarean delivery of stillborn at 38 weeks gestation owing to placental infarction O43.813, Z37.1, O36.4XX0,Z3A.38 2.Term pregnancy, 39 weeks, delivered, single stillborn left occiput anterior Terminal abruptio placentae Cord wrapped tightly around neck with compression- O45.93 ,O69.1XX0,O36.4XX0,Z37.1,Z3A.39 What confuses me with these two questions is that the two codes(O36.4XX0 & Z37.1) are the same but the positions are different.
Hi Dong. These are inpatient cases or records so the first code is the most important because it will determine the DRG. Z37.1 is the outcome of the delivery so you can list either before or after any code. As long as you have the principal diagnosis code listed first then you are good. I hope it helps.
I would like to know if Extracorporeal Shock Wave is the same as Extracorporeal sound wave? (Question 5). Also, in question 10, the question never mentioned the regrowth of obstructive prostate tissue (52630). As a new coder, what would make me think to choose this as the answer? Thank you for your time.
Hi Rena. Extracorporeal sound wave (50590) use high frequency sound waves and Extracorporeal Shock Wave (20890) use low frequency waves not sound waves. Next "repeat transurethral of prostate tissue 4 years after original procedure" means that this is the excision of residual or regrowth tissue of the prostate and not an initial excision of prostate mass. If you use the same code that you used 4 years ago for the initial procedure, then it will be denied. I hope it helps.

If you have the coder desk reference book, please look it up and then please come back here and share what you find with our viewers. Thank you.
@@codingwithhoang My Coder's Desk Reference says "For voiding pressure studies performed in conjunction with a complex cystometrogram (51728), a transducer is placed into the bladder and the bladder is filled with fluid...." "Report 51729 if complex cystometrogram is combined with both voiding pressure studies and urethral pressure profile studies"
I do have the 2020 version of coders desk reference so maybe thats why I am confused. Thank you for your help! Your videos have been invaluable to me. I am taking my CPC next week!
Nevermind about my question. I see you have been asked and answered several times in the comments. I apologize.
Hello Mr. Hoang, for ques # 6 why are we not using 51728? i know your answer is 51729. Please explain the rationale.
Please help me how can I get practice set for preparation of CPC exam..
Very helpful Sir😊😊
Thanks for your sharing ,could I have a question about coding ?
I have confused about two ICD-10 questions,
Could you help me to find out ?
1.Cesarean delivery of stillborn at 38 weeks gestation owing to placental infarction O43.813, Z37.1, O36.4XX0,Z3A.38
2.Term pregnancy, 39 weeks, delivered, single stillborn
left occiput anterior
Terminal abruptio placentae
Cord wrapped tightly around neck with compression-
O45.93 ,O69.1XX0,O36.4XX0,Z37.1,Z3A.39
What confuses me with these two questions is that the two codes(O36.4XX0 & Z37.1) are the same but the positions are different.
Hi Dong. These are inpatient cases or records so the first code is the most important because it will determine the DRG. Z37.1 is the outcome of the delivery so you can list either before or after any code. As long as you have the principal diagnosis code listed first then you are good. I hope it helps.
@@codingwithhoang hi, Hoang, thank you for your information, so helpful! so excited for replying to me! following you !!!
Thank you 👍
I am 39, can I write cpc exam. After finishing exam is there possibility to get job. I already worked as a trainee coder in radiology.
Definitely, you can. All you have to do is watch all of my videos, take note and follow my tips and strategies, then you should be ready for the exam. You have to believe in yourself and focus on your study then you should do well on the exam. Let's do it. I wish I was 39 :)
Thank you!!
You're welcome!

Question no.6 answer is confusing..shown on screen is different
For Question 6 what makes 51729 more accurate than 51728?
If you have two codes to choose for cystometrogram 51728 and 51729 and the physician documented it as a complex cystometrogram then which code you think would be appropriate to use assuming you already review the difference between these two codes? What is your thought process? A complex cystometrogram is combined with both voiding pressure studies and urethral pressure profile studies. If you have a "coder desk reference" book then please look it up and it will tell you. I hope it helps.
Correct ans for Q6 is 51728 na?
Sir is coding course fine to do after age of 40
Hi Ayesha. Yes, definitely. Age is just a number. I have students who are older than you and they still are good coders. As long as you understand the learning material, have time to study then you should be fine. Good luck!

Question about #6 why can't the answer be 51728
Question # 6: the correct answer to this question is 51729. It's my typo mistake because I use the same template from my previous slide and forget to change the code. If you listen carefully to what I said during each question, then you should know 51729 is the correct answer.
I'm confused about question # 6 I thought the answer is 51726 and 51728.
If you review 51726 description, it doesn't include the voiding pressure. I hope it helps.
Thank you Sir Hoang.

The correct answer is again 51729. 50590 is my typo mistake from the previous slide for lithotripsy ESWL.
