I'll be in my stand in the morning. I'm right on the edge of a patch of woods in a pinch point pass through on about 40 acres. And I'm only about 200 yards away from a housing area. So, human scents and sounds are common. It's my sanctuary. Gonna be 48° in the morning.
In early season I really like a weather combination. If there's a good storm the evening before that keeps them bedded down till late, and I get good wind for the next morning, its the kind of scenario where Bucks make mistakes, trail cameras set on key feeding pattern trails can show them making such mistakes. The wind needs to be good for you and the Buck. Not just for a random incursion, I only try such tactics with a particular target in mind.
Appreciate this insight and agree…..but, I sometimes get antsy and head out before I really should. I’ll be watching the weather for the best time to hit the stands! Thanks for the info Jeff.
Only hunting cold fronts and backends of rain storms on September mornings nowadays. Hey, I like when you’re in the woods pointing around. It really replicates how to approach public spots as well. Particularly how to scout, evaluate, and plan attacks on bedding
Right Jeff, shot my first buck in the morning in the rut - I am waiting after a cold front before I blow out my land and will be on the couch. or shooting my bow for practice. Opening day here in AR is September 28th.
I will only go into some stands in the morning in early season. They all have similar characteristics. One being a barrier on my back where their is regular human activity such as a road that they parallel or cross to get to their bedding. That way, my access is short and quick and I am less likely to bump anything. I may be less likely to see a deer, but I love the woods waking up in the morning and feel I do not bust out a spot by stepping 20 yards off the road and setting up.
Here in PA in 2-B we open up this Saturday Sept 16. Normally I wouldn't hunt....we are having a temp drop.and I had a few buck on camera. I typically wouldn't hunt till mid October..... this spot will change as I've seen in history....got 2 shooters on camera... gotta give it a try...
I would go as far to say that mid afternoon is underutilized. I’ve had multiple sits this year where the majority of deer movement was around 3-4. Actually harvested a decent buck already in that time frame.
I know almost all deer bed hunters swear by evening hunting. I have heard many well known guys say they kill almost all their mature animals in the evening. Makes sense considering it’s difficult to impossible to beat a deer into a bedding area considering they often circle down wind on approach.
Please tell us now Jeff, For an all day sit, What do you do, When it’s time for a shit? Crap in a bag way up in the stand, Or climb on down and bury with sand? Cuz here I now sit, Under bluest of skies, Ready to burst, With the brownest of eyes. A good buck’s hung up and there’s does all around, can I get this done without making a sound? Will the morning thermals cover such a rotten stench, knew I should have set up on the higher bench… Shoot it to me straight and tell me no lie, Signed, The guy full of shit up there in the sky.
Jeff historically my bucks dont show up til Mid October..Should i wait to hunt my morning stands during the pre-rut&rut/cold fronts etc. I think so i dont want to burn this set up but its killing me to get in there and just hunt.
Every year on our 17 acres we have 3 or 4 small bucks on camera right up until season but we see big ones in the rut! I Cannon notttt find where the big ones come from
I am going hunting Friday and put out corn yesterday Sunday I did the same last week but did not hunt and the corn was gone when I checked my cam should I go back in 2 days before my hunt to put out corn or just hope that their is corn their it is right off a trail to I think I should just stay out of their until I go Friday
Shot my first md buck on opening day, September 8th. I told myself I needed to stay put majority of the morning and ended up shooting a really good 3 year old at 11 am.
i rarely get my buck in early season, it has to be a monster for me to shoot one early, because i know the rut is coming and i will see a lot of bucks. i hate shooting one early then seeing a bigger one during rut. we can only shoot one buck in my state so i must be sure i get the correct one.
Hey Jeff. I gun hunt in NE Georgia and the season starts Oct 21st. Is that time period still best for afternoon hunts over mornings? Or when would you estimate mornings become better? The rut here is around Nov 20th.
My cameras aren't telling me much yet and no big changes in weather for this weekends opener so i guess its a shoot my bow and sit on the couch and watch football weekend!!!!!
Jeff wondering your opinions on hunting urban deer and what a hunter can get away with as far as scent control, spooking deer, etc.. I'm new to your material so pardon me if you already have content on it. Very helpful thanks
Always remember you can kill more and shoot older bucks by spending more time on the couch...that applies to any hunter. I'm with you tho...I will be out if I can hunt smart that morning. If not...the season is a marathon not a sprint 👍
Yes I did...Jan 1st, and have created a few videos about it. Was able to experience them first hand for 2 years before the switch...all models, past present and future. I'm also personal friends with the owners and get to see the vast resources that go into making the Reveal cameras. Was an incredible opportunity and an extremely tough decision as I really like the owners of Exodus, but like the Reveal camera lineup and where they are heading on a much higher level than the Exodus cams. Here is one of those videos... ruclips.net/video/L4lO3iraNNI/видео.htmlsi=E7iqBWJZ59AmcxI0 Pretty awesome to now get HD videos sent to my phone instead of pulling SD cards 😊👍 Among other things...
Very critical to have a hunt setup with both defined morning stands and evening stands. Morning is by far the best during the rut unless a hunter purely hunts food.
What I find is amazing is I can stick to a plan and do everything correctly, but still not see deer. Hunting small acreage is the killer. It's still just a matter of luck in some cases.
I disagree. If you are hunting high pressure public land situations you are best to get there in the am and at least educate yourself on movement. My experience is all the public land movement in the morning suppresses the deer u til after shooting light.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 I agree, everything is situational. I normally don’t hunt very aggressive early on but this year one of the spots I scouted a lot and have a lot of time invested in has had a huge amount of pressure. Because of that I’ve decided to go in hard and either get lucky or get intel for late season. Every year something will be a title different and that’s why it’s so fun.

Great video, as always! Looking forward to a great season. I'll be in my stand this weekend as it'll be perfect weather for it.
That's great Ethan ..enjoy it!

It's so tough to be patient!
Absolutely! As long as there's a temp drop they will move in a.m. in the morning!
Sometimes...mostly during the rut.

For sure Eric...good luck!! Soon!!
Seen you on news max Class act. Been on here awhile , thank you for for all you do
Very cool I hope you liked it! Always enjoyable on there with Carl...he is a HUGE hunter!
Man I hope I'm right right about this new spot trying to get my first artchary buck thank you for the info brother

I work 5 to 5. And just about every other Saturday. If I have time to get in the woods, I’m going

I always wait until the last week of oct or first week of November..By Nov 7th, I usually have one from the woods not the bait piles or food plots.

I have learned so much from your channel that has made me a better bow hunter. My new Garmin sight helps a lot too 😂. Thanks Jeff!
We have some big temp drops next weekend at our opener about 20 degree from day and night electing to see lots of activity ramp up!

I have a simple answer tho...I don't eat in the morning or drink coffee, lol
And cheesr day before
Matt Robinson you win
Down here is georgia, last weekend 9-9-23, was opening day for archery season. Unfortunately I had to work.
I'm sure better days to come tho!
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 this Saturday the high is 74 so a lot better than 90°
Thanks Jeff

Going to be 59 tommorow a.m. in SC! Unfortunately I won't be going 😢
That's not too bad!
I only have 10-12 hunts all year so when able to go I’m going regardless
I sit about 25 to 30 sits per year, 3 to 4 states, 6 to 7 total buck tags over 4 months so I hear you. When I go sit, I have to make sure it counts
The sack on that buck 7:25
Good eatin’!
He’s got some seeds for sure

That's my wheel house

Hunting national forest. Much different than the food plot situations.
Not too much? Just hav to find the food source of the moment and hunt it the same. That's what I do 😉 We will do it again in PA this season...
Jeff wondering your opinions on hunting urban deer and what a hunter can get away with as far as scent control, spooking deer, etc.. I'm new to your material so pardon me if you already have content on it. Very helpful thanks
Just like any other deer. Are they around humans more often at that spot? If so you'll likely get away with a bit more but why risk it? Play the wind.
Only days (hours!) till bow opener! 52 acres of neighbors soybeans are about to become a hunting plot. Binoculars, sent cones, and patience.
Amen Kurt! Good luck
Great advice !
Thanks 👍🏻🦌🇺🇸
Makes me rethink things🤔
😊 good luck very soon D!!
I’m not getting up in the morning for any deer.
I'm sure you are right, but i don't do this for a living. I will be in the stand.

Go squirrel hunting instead. When the deer start to move, you’ll be the first to know it.😊
Yep.
yessir ! nithi g like a good squirrel dog
Squirrels taste like sht
Ive almost always see more deer in the afternoon/evening. Very very few in the morning.

One day Jeff, join me on a public land hunt. Need your insights on killing a monster buck on public. Take me up on that challenge.
We can hunt triple H.
Third! Lol I always get the notification late I can never get the first comment😢
I honestly don't know how Kurt does it...
It’s no secret. Food, bedding, travel corridors. (And of course access!)
I identify as first on the next one...
Lol

deer will move no matter how many fucking trees you cut by a bedding area lol
