It is an incredible time to be a bow hunter!!! Can’t believe we have 3 day of rain this coming week. Could not get a drop on my food plot for 2 months but now when I want some stand time it rains. After the rain it would be awesome. Can’t wait. Thanks Jeff. Good luck
Anywhere from October 24th till last days in October is great on the farm I grew up hunting in PA. Killed several on the 26th from the same tree chasing or seeking. I had a camera out last year and sure thing on the 26th a nice buck day lighted. This year I was tagged out early. Same thing different property October 26th a big non typical came by me at 30 yards with his mouth open looking for a doe. On another property I used to hunt it was great the 2nd week in November.
You teach me so much this is my first year hunting I only bow hunt and you've taught me so much I was able to get me first deer thanks to your advice I hunt old school with old equipment and try to read the environment for deer patterns and it's just great
Excited for this rain/snow to pass and get a great morning cold front sit in the morning!
Great stuff, Jeff. I have pneumonia so i am living vicariously through deer videos. maybe i'll get out last weekend.
Lets go!!! Seen some chasing last nite in the rain UP Michigan. Passed a smaller 8 pnt but its public land so hopefully he makes it
You make Bow Hunting seem more awesome than it is! Great Job!
Pre rut is in full swing here in north central PA….big cold front hits us Saturday morning, then around the 4th or so we will have lock down until about the 7th-8th then our peak
This morning I had a hot doe hit a scrape. I could smell it walking to my stand. Halloween week is prime time. I didn’t have a shot this morning on a Buck. The temperature was warm yesterday and today. I have seen deer move in windy, rainy and warm weather during this time of year always. The rut is always the same time of year.
Man you a smart man! Every video is just so correct !! You are never off ! Hunting is very simple and you call it each time !! It can seem hard to us but we make it hard on ourselves worrying if we are going to get that shot at that mature one !!!
Can we get a video on scents? How to use, when to use, when not to use, what scents are recommended, where to use them etc? Love your videos, I’m a new subscriber out of Mecosta/Rodney/Mount Pleasant area. For the most part I know what and when to use it but I’m tweaking techniques a bit trying different things to hopefully bring some bigger boys in. Thank you for the informative videos. If you’re ever in the area swing through I’ll give ya a walk around the property.
Central WI they seem to be locked down for the most part. Working this weekend but starting Monday morning im in my stand dark2dark for a week! Should fire off sometime during that stretch no matter what the weather is. Gotta put in the time or you could miss it. Nothing like having a doe burn past ur stand with that scared look on her face & completely out of breath! This is what we live for. Stay safe out there. Great stuff Jeff. Between you & the Drury Deercast Ive learned a lot of new stuff the last few yrs. Definitely made me a better hunter.
No,way are the deer “locked down “!
Crazy weather swings in SW PA this season so far, but the action is ramping up!
Saw on another page, someone in SW PA got pics of a doe being bred this morning. I'm in Preston County WV. I know the bucks have been on the move.
@nickborgman8105 Doesnt surprise me at all. Good luck!
@@boneheadsoutdoors6555 you too
Yesp I agree I hunt Green County PA. But the temps this coming week will definitely screw things up terribly!! I'm pretty disappointed
@@Bowhunter5 Yeah. Me too. Should still be some movement just because of the time of year. Maybe just early morning and late evenings
80 degrees here in Ny right now. Saturday morning will be 35 degrees!!! Will be a great morning in the woods
I'm in upstate NY and I can't wait.
Same for me in CT
Upstate ny here too!!
Good luck wish the weather down in sc would get back to those temps 🤦🏾♀️
Got a nice 17-25 degree weather drop coming up on Saturday. Gonna be out for sure
Thank you, Jeff, another great video.
Gonna be a great weekend in the woods here in Pennsylvania. Things are really starting to ramp up and rut is very very close.
Bless you guys. Thank you.
Love your vids! Taught me alot for the past couple years. Are we going to get to see some live action/kills soon?
Good luck WHS! This will be an exciting cold front-! I’m keeping my eye out on instagram for Jen’s harvest!🤣
Would love to see a video of how different types of weather affects deer
Cold weather coming this Saturday 20 degree temperature drop should be a good day
Saturday will be an all day sit for me in northern Michigan
Pre rut here in West Tenn black powder nov 9 with front coming 7 8th shood be good same time every year great advice 🦌🇱🇷
Good luck down there in TN!
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751thank you sir let you know👍
Saw a small buck chasing this morning in the rain west central wisco. Was fun to watch but that was it.
My favorite subscription. I tune in with every new video. Hello from Tennessee!
This yr is reminessence of 2018 here in mn: rain, cold, wind, misery, wet, rain and did i say more rain. Deer camp was misery and errythan was wet. We was there for a whole week of misery. Forecastin 3 days of rain during the most wonderful time of tha yr. Yay.
I’m in North Texas and can’t we have a really hard time determining the phases of rut here.
Oh man I bet ..I can see that. Better to hunt individual family group areas that typically come into heat at a certain time in a certain location every year. And the weather 😊
Thanks Jeff
South east OH still dark moving bucks. But ive got a giant in the yard hes about 45 min before light still. Usually 31st is my lucky day. Im going to NC Pa to the forrest to see if they doin anything there yet. 2 weeks ago they was dark moving too. Still not cold enough it seems
I've hunted allnover the south, and our doe fawns don't reach breeding weight until the summer, but we still see a 2nd rut.
Here in upstate New York I’ve seen ZERO pre rut or rut activity. Nothing seems different than opening day of bow.
Same in SW Virginia. I did hear what seemed like some chasing after dark one evening when I was stuck in my stand with does all around. But that’s it.
Im in Central NY. Mostly quiet here as well. Saw a 4 pt get aggressive with a smaller buck. One came by at dusk. Shows they are very slowly starting.
Still got 170 acres of standing corn on my main farm.. might be tough this year if it doenst get picked soon.
Cant wait to hunt tomorrow nov 1st
Hi Jeff, love all your videos. I have a question regarding deer movement this year here in eastern Ontario. I have only seen 1 deer since end of Oct during daylight and others around are reporting similar results. We have a huge coyote/coywolf population and I am wondering if you or any of your followers have any experience with deer and coyote movement. 2 years ago I would have seen 20 or more deer by now in the same area of my property.
ALWAYS !
Thanks from Central Illinois for another great video.
Good luck Jerry!
What ladder stands do you use ???
Whats going on in missouri right now just got into bow hunting 2 years ago taking it serious this year
So being October 31st here in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin, I believe that we are in pre rut? I have absolutely no chasing
Hi Michael! Definitely lockdown right now for you...
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Thanks Jeff! Thats where I hunt as well...Had the same question.
Was hoping I had one more day of PRE- rut.....But the T cams told me no.
Only difference I see in ruts is when weather changes. Cold fronts put them in daylight movement then we always, always get a warm front puts them back to night mostly, then back to cold moves them back to daylight but yes rut is always same. COMMON SENSE
Hey Jeff - looks like we're going to get a few day's of rain Nov 3-5 in south WI. Unfortunately these are a few of my very limited hunting days. What is a good strategy for sitting out the rain, light rain that is? Or is it an exercise in futility?
@Thiswewilldefend A good strategy for rain is go out and hunt. The deer live outside, rain isn't going to hurt them
What would cause bucks to rub but not lay down scrapes? Having this issue on my 6 acres.
Got 2 mature bucks on the property that I have on camera, but ones coming in at night and the other is coming around 4-5am still to dark.
What state??
@@jordanfeist2569 Connecticut, they’re just not showing at shooting times but they are all over my camera.
Same
@@CrosierOutdoors I sat today saw nothing, but that 8 rolled in this am at 4:50 the other one Rolled in at 2am.It could be due to pressure but I’m trying to flush them out lol so I’ll wait them out lol
I saw the first buck today, but he was on the ragged edge of my comfort zone, and he was on a mission, ignoring any attempt to stop him. Prior to this, all I saw was does.
What bow is that you have??
Do you recommend stayin where you’re seeing your target bucks if they are coming right after shooting light or an hr or 2 b4 shooting light or try and move and cut them off?
How much would it be for you guys to come out an check out a 80 acres to hold deer?
I hunted all Halloween week , hot Saturday. Sunday was 38 saw a few does. Then 45 mph winds mon Tuesday Wednesday and storms Wednesday night. I thought deer should move Thursday morning. Nope a couple of does. Thursday and Friday a few small bucks but not much movement and deer were feeding all night and not much daytime movement. Saturday morning was 58 degrees in saw a spike. I have cameras all over 700 acres with only the wife and me hunting it. Friday morning suddenly there were fresh scrapes that wasn't there Thursday evening. I talked to a few hunters around me and they saw a few young bucks, spikes and forkys, basket bucks but no big bucks and slow movement. But this week will be cooler than 90 degrees and it's getting time for the big bucks to start getting out of bed and start looking for love ❤️. Good luck everyone 👍
Good luck Dave!
I killed a 8pt last Saturday in southern Michigan,I’m letting my lease heal this weekend though Saturday is perfect after this wind.
Hitting it the weekend of the 9th
2 months until rut down here
Would rattling work? Buck grunt/doe bleats? Are they still checking out scrapes during the lockdown?
i’ve never had much success rattling any time besides the pre rut
How do you keep your water holes from going stagnant?
I heard him say that's the only water they will drink out of is stagnet / mud puddle s basically. So he keeps it an inch or two below grade, so that little bit of dirt will fall into it.
@@davidfileccia6317my dad always taught me the opposite here in the mountains of VA. He says that the deer only drink from springs and will skip by a creek if a spring is nearby. Not sure but I’ve heard the same thing about the deer liking the pond water better on this channel.
I’m hunting a spot on public land and really only have this weekend to hunt. I’m in a funnel on a ridge that can see down a small valley with water. Anything else I should look for? Haven’t seen any sign earlier this season but it’s been 2 weeks. This is far off the road away from other human activity. Any tips?
I have a question that i cant find an answer to and nobody is seeming to give me. I hunt 20 acres of land and have a feeder up. I want to add a water hole also. How far away should i put the water hole from the feeder. Also considering moving my feeder about 100 yards and not sure if moving it during the off season will mess anything up. Anyone reading this please give me your thoughts. Im new at this so trying to learn while i have access to this property. Thank you
Put it where you want another stand. Where trails intersect or where you think would be another good spot. So you can have a stand at the feeder and one at the water hole. It doesn’t matter the yardage
@@user-mw9ix5up8s Thank you I know i just dont want them right on top of each other. I have a good spot like 50 yards from my feeder but out of archery range then. do you think moving a feeder is a good idea or leave it where it is at
Oklahoma time frame??? I have not seen any sign yet. I watched 16 does in fields for days. never seen them run off or even watch the woodwinds. acting skittish at all.
What phase of the rut do you think the Northern part of North Dakota is in?
I’m hunting for 9 days about 2 miles from the Canadian border.
Jeff you should create a map of rut timing, similar to planting zones with timeframes. Would visually hit home.
That's a great idea Corey!
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 I only ask for 10% lol jk. Love the info! It's getting that time up here in Ontario, CAN
jeff one of those waterholes looked way below half!!! get those boys some water !! 😂
Jeff, can you do a video on buck fever, shot placement, and taking a good shot with a bow, crossbow, and gun. I'm struggling.
Are you a hunter???
@jaredkook366 yes
Been having trouble with rushing shots and not aiming well
@@johncirilli6846 What can Jeff say to help that? Slow down. Aim small miss small.
Maybe he doesn’t have anyone else to ask. I’ve been there man. Still have trouble with it. There is lots of videos on target panic on you tube that could help. They helped me. But I’m still working on it. Talking your self through it is what I’ve been trying to do. Telling myself to pick a spot. Ok now squeeze the trigger. But it still is hard if you got a deer in front of you and all excited
And that’s the bottom line, cuz Jeff Sturgis said so !!!
Any opinions on using deer bait/attractant (Buck Bourbon) during the rut in front of your stand??
👍👍
🦌😁
Second!
Very accurate, lol
@ great explanation today too! I got part time job and full time night shift. Take a nap get up for this prime Friday weather 💪🏻🤘
LL beams showed up last night with an arrow hole high shoulder. Not fatal. Get my number from Doug if you want to contact me I can send you the pictures.
Thank you I appreciate that very much and I will do that! You can also email me at whitetailhabitatsolutions@gmail.com and I can give you my # too
It was hot and dry... so my cereal rye isn't growing for shit. That's about all I know about that.
Big weather swing on Halloween..... and my string breaks.... just my luck....
my heart hurts for u brother ….
Take a shot every time Jeff says, "Bottom line."
How do you manage 60 cameras!!!! How much in batteries do you spend? Thats gotta take hours a day to go through those cams. Or is it just 60 between all your clients?
..
Yep!
Third ?
For sure 😁
It's funny how you're on private property. Calling the shots and sitting on your can. You couldn't hunt in the forest on foot and be successful.
