I actually built a couple of V8 Vegas back in high school days in the 70s. I just watched your video about the Rust-Oleum paint job I would say it's about 20 years ago you can mix industrial enamel Rust-Oleum with a an acrylic enamel hardener and clear coat and spray it all in one shot I found this out while working in a sign shop in Texas in the winter time we could not get the enamel to drive fast enough so I took some car stuff that I had and mixed her up and man you could literally touch that paint within 15 minutes. Quite amazing just finding out something just by experimenting. I just recently did all the body work and stuff on a buddy's 99 Ford F-250 where he had bought top of the line chaparral paint, I have to say it was nice to use a quality paint but I would have never spent all that money to paint an old truck with old paint already on it as we did not spray the whole truck just all the repairs that it had. Cut out All the old rusty metal and welding in all new metal the only thing that we did buy was the cab corners. Anyway guys I just happened upon your channel and I really like it I actually follow quite a few Canadian channels. Half-ass customs foresty Forest and so on. Anyway fellas keep making those videos
Hey! Thanks for that comment! Glad you found our channel! Did you go with the 350 in the Vegas or 305? We were thinking 305 since it's still plenty of power for that little car. Not sure yet. That's pretty great finding out that little trick like that with the enamel! I hope you got a raise! Haha, at least a steak dinner! Sounds like you've had some fun working on cars trucks though! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
The suspense was killing me!!! Even though I figured you must have gotten it running, (otherwise there’d be no video!) I still couldn’t wait to see the outcome! Totally amazing that it ran!
Wow! I never knew there was another GM brand compact coupe, other than The Chevy Vega !?! Were there others? A Buick, Oldsmobile Etc., I'll be on Google soon. Thanks, Good Stuff Guys..Good Luck w/it!!!.
This was a fun video to watch . Hearing that old thing start up was satisfying to say the least . I’m pumped to see what you make this look like. You definitely don’t see many of these around . Sweet work guys 👍🙌🏻
If its a Vega it has holes in the frame for a new set if motor mounts that a 350 will bolt to with no drilling needed. Even the tranny hold bolts line up. Did that to a vega as my highschool project back in the days.
That is fantastic, that is what we are planning on putting into it. Well, 305 or 350, the 305 is still plenty of power for this little car and we can find one cheaper.
Now these are the projects, like the dodge, could take your channel to a whole new level. Add a bit of Mat Armstrong to the equation, only with your own personal ideas and upgrades etc and you could actually be very successful. It must be hard financially as when starting off everything is on a budget, and takes a lot of time and effort. You are both awesome characters Keep doing what you are doing and I will continue to pray for good health, prosperity and for both of your families Respect to you both 👊🏻
Thank you very much for such a nice comment! Mat Armstrong is a channel we've watched for a long time. He obviously has way more budget to do his cars, but we do try to make our content as professional as we can with the two of us. If we even achieve a fraction of what Mat has that would be unreal. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Thank you very much!
We are an hour north east of Toronto. Super surprised it wasn't completely rotted out! The floor on the drivers side needs replacing though. And there are a few other spots on the floor that need a patch. There is a rubbery coating on everything though, probably helped
Great videos so far, thanks, I see your in Ontario I live in New Brunswick, Keep up the great work, I build Scale models on my channel, If there's a car you have that you would like me to try and build, let me know.
If a Motor Turns valve some what seal, Has spark, It will run even if it sat 200 years. That's why I never under stood Video's about a Motor running, any Mechanic Knows this, Even with Bad Compression,it will Run 90% of the Time
Leave the engine. not only does that save you time, and fuel, but the traction is also far better. With a v8, it probably would have gotten stuck in that mud and taken 100 times more time to tow out as you will ever lose during acceleration.
That's true, the V8 will change the weight distribution. But for resale, when someone fires it up and it has that rumble, I think it will help! Also the 70hp that the car had originally was pretty sad haha.
@@RustedRides I would line up the buyer first and let them pick the engine, but if you have the market data to back that up than I can't argue with the market. But you don't need as big a mark up if you have less time invested, and leaving the engine would take less time. Plus most original vega engines are completely worn out.

@@RustedRides actually during that era in the 70s 3:27 went in one Vega and a 350 went in the other,

Ahh thanks! Ya it was kinda surprising how quickly this engine woken up!
That motor runs great! If I didn't live so far away I'd buy it just to have it!
Same thing here...

Thanks! I know there was also the Chevrolet Monza which was similar in size and shared some parts.
You both have good voices for entertainment. Those are really good looking cars ya
Thank you! Ya these old ones are fun!
This should be fun
We are looking forward to digging into it!

Hey thanks! Ya it felt pretty cool hearing that motor actually fire up! Thanks for watching! We have cool things coming for this car!
You guys should do an old school 327 with a Muncie 4 gear keep it simple
That would be a nice set up!
17:45 I spy the kitty!! 🐱
The cat already loves this car!
Amazing!!!
Thank you! For watching and for commenting!
Ya i love the older cars too

Oh...FYI. My Vega frame bent by the time summer break was done.....might want to support the frame.

What region of ontario are you guys? I’m surprised the rust didn’t eat through it way more than it has

A Pontiac version of the Vega!
I actually never knew that pontiac had a version of the Vega until this car!
@@RustedRides Pontiac Astre
I'm surprised that thing started so easily. I guess that means this is going to be an easy build. Isn't that what it means?!
Oh I hope so! Super surprised it started so easily. Also can't believe the body is in such good shape. The drivers floor is pretty bad though
I would say find a vega with a bad engine to v8 swap, which would be easy since the engines don't last, but the bodies don't last either.
Slay
Haha thanks!

so cool XD

Put a 4200 in it with Big turbo, Makes the Big blocks sick to there stomach when they Lose.
Make it KITT'S little brother.
haha that would be cool!

Hey You Guys know that car is a copy of the Vega.
It is a Vega
put a hellcat engine on the astre
Run what a stupid question they didn't run when they were on the show room that's why V.8 was the only way to save it
Hahaha they were that bad eh?
Theyre not gonna honor the warranty now, running it without a radiator and such.
Dang it! We should have read the fine print!
Looks like a datsun lol
It actually does. It got the 75 front end... Would really like the early 70s front clip
