- The Rezillos - Flying Saucer Attack and 2000AD as performed on Rockpop, Germany October 14th 1978. Recorded by me from analogue satellite receiver scart connected into Sony VHS HiFi VCR, recording at SP onto Scotch EXG+ E240, tape number 669, digital archive 4090
There's a threat approaching from the stars
All the horrors from Venus and Mars
Everybody'd better be on guard
When the flying saucers land
Watch the skies above the horizon
For the spies who have no flies on
When they appear through the stratosphere
Better lock yourself inside
Flying saucer attack
I'm never coming back
Oh, oh, oh, until it's over
Laser beams and gamma projectors
There'll be nothing on Earth to protect us
When they arrive out of the sky
They'll be frying us alive
Call out the Army and the United Nations
Alert the police and Air Force stations
Tell everybody to run and hide
Because the end is near at hand
Flying saucer attack
I'm never coming back
Oh, oh, oh, until it's over
The Rezillos are a punk/new wave band formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1976. Although emerging at the same time as other bands in the punk rock movement, the Rezillos did not share the nihilism or social commentary of their contemporaries, but instead took a more light-hearted approach to their songs, preferring to describe themselves at the time as "a new wave beat group". Their songs are heavily influenced by 1950s rock and roll, 1960s English beat music and garage rock, early 1970s glam rock, and recurring lyrical themes of science fiction and B movies; their influences mirrored those of US bands the Cramps and the B-52s, who were starting out at the same time. The Rezillos' biggest hit in their home country was the UK Top 20 single "Top of the Pops" in 1978, but they are best known outside the UK for their cover version of "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight", which was featured on the soundtrack to Jackass: The Movie in 2002. Since the Rezillos recorded it, the song has been covered by other punk bands, including Youth Brigade and Murphy's Law.
Released in July 1978, the Rezillos' first studio album Can't Stand the Rezillos is considered a classic album of the first wave of British punk, but the group split up four months after its release, following internal arguments about their future direction. After the Rezillos split, the band's guitarist and principal songwriter, Jo Callis, briefly joined a couple of unsuccessful Edinburgh post-punk groups before being invited to join The Human League. He went on to co-write some of The Human League's best known songs during their most successful period, including their biggest worldwide hit, "Don't You Want Me". The Rezillos' vocalists, Eugene Reynolds and Fay Fife, formed the Revillos, a group with an ever-changing line-up that continued where the Rezillos left off. The Revillos split up in 1985, briefly reforming in 1994 for a tour of Japan, and again in 1996 for a UK tour. In 2001 the Rezillos reformed after being invited to play at Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations, and have continued to play live ever since, as well as releasing new singles occasionally.

1978 is possibly the best year ever in rock history.. certainly it was the 1977/81 the best five years, even better than magical 1966/70 or 1987/91..
Agreed!
Awesome footage. My mum bought me the album for Christmas after it came out. Love it and still play it.
Classic Rezillos 🛸
Remember Top of the Pops and Top of the Pops. Cheers STV.😃
I remember just as the fun was going out of punk up popped the Rezzillos and bang can’t stand came out it was bloody addictive and the a few years later the Revillos did the same with Rev up even now they’re just so bloody refreshing I love em always will😅😅😅😅😅👏👏👏👏👏
Can't believe how static the audience are and how little band care.
they did it for the german kids at home that went absolutely wild, although they didn't understand a word.
Too right, I saw them live in the UK back in the day and the place went f**king crazy. The best live band I've ever seen for pure energy and entertainment. I had one hell of a schoolboy crush on Fay Fife!
Cuz the band is miming to the album track???😂😂😂😂
OMG! This is fabulous.
Thanks for watching and commenting, I am glad you enjoyed this.
Wow the audience really got carried away there.
They're zombies.
That's why they had to be sedated.
They wanted to do a mosh pit but their shoes were nailed to the floor!
Agreed, but ye should've been there at The Nash in Grangemoooth a few months later - we went fucking mental!
🧘
45 years ago today..this video was taken!…….and..they were just gigging a few mths ago!
45 years, its scary, I remember buying this in my local record shop upon release, the guy in the store was a big fan of the band and had posters of them all over the ceiling.
If I’d been there I couldn’t have kept still . Absolutely brilliant 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for watching and commenting Colin
Ah!!!! If I was a darts player I’d shout ‘180’! In their day (wee venues) they were great, great fun. A couple of years ago I moved to Kirkcaldy. Kin a say am fae fife 😂
😁
Absolutely brilliant!
Jo Callis from The Human League on bass! Excellent clip!
Actually he was the guitarist (and songwriter).
Dk Smythe on bass pal
Cool song! Love this band!🎶🌟 have a crush on Jo Callis..🧡
They are still around touring all the time, as is Jo, I think he is on Facebook as are the band
Yess he is on Facebook, I wrote to him on messenger and still waiting for hear back😊
When is Faye Fife going to be made a Dame????? One of the best stage performers ever.....no competition ❤
I’ve read a lot about this band because of Jo Callis but never heard them before. Great band! I like the song, the attitude and the performance. They are off their time but I sure wish that bands today had their energy. Thank you for sharing this, I enjoyed it.
At first glance I thought it said the Revillos. I remember hearing 'Rev Up' in Sixteen Candles. Classic.
But The Rezillos are better.
The Rezillos morphed into the Revillos after the record company wouldn't let them keep the name.
They're back as the Rezillos today. Fay(Sheilagh) still beltin' it out with them and Countess of Fife
The bass player is something else!
That bassist is really something else. I have no idea why I don't see him mentioned. As for the band, I heard of them because someone was wearing a t-shirt and I'd never heard of them and wanted to check em out.
Every song they made had amazing bass lines I totally agree👍👍👍
Great audio and video quality!
Thanks for watching and commenting Otto, so glad you found and enjoyed this video.
Profile pic checks out
Hugely under rated band, up there with NMTB for one album then gone.
Very nice
Thanks
Brill bass player
This is FIRE!
Love em
I think I spotted someone in the audience move just after the 2 minute mark.
And then again when Eugene had him in a headlock @4.24 haha!
I was just carried away like the audience😂 However music is ACE❤
I guess the audience are ordered to sit, no dancing, no smiling, 🤣
Our Germans friends there really getting down with the music!
Auntie Maureen's back on the Dexys
Steevee, love it. Great fun. They're having a cracking time. Thanks for the lyrics . (Are they cardboard cutouts or real people in audience). A lot of great bands came out of Scotland. 👍✌️❤️
3:50 Jo gave a smile for Faye😊
Ah, but Fay (Sheilagh) is fae Dunfermline 😂
Jo Callis 🎸🌟🧡
Hi.......NOTHING IS FREE....I LIVE IN THE FUTURE...! 👁️👁️☠️🇨🇵☠️🎇👀🙋M/Le Havre/France
Put your gusset away love
Tough crowd.
It's as if they are there for something else, they certainly were not into music.
👍
I can see that the audience were really impressed
...not !!
The audience on this show were always the same, I can only guess they were told by the studio manager not to move
Kill the audience.....hang on, they're already dead! Great stuff.
I remember being gutted when they split up the week before I was due to see them in Manchester. Still love 'em.
