It also has a trip diaphragm, so the flow is automatically stopped when the fluid level reaches the nozzle! This is a way simpler mechanism than building robots to fill up your tank. People are getting way too comfortable and complaining about doing simple tasks.

I use robots like this at work and in a steril environment we have a lot of problems getting a good run out of it. These have a long way to go before they can be unsupervised without failures often. Let alone different car heights different distances from the pump and different filler necks on different cars. Still pretty neat but no one is being replaced just yet.
A large portion of newer cars in the USA also have no cap. There’s a simple flap at the entrance of the tube/hose to the fuel tank that moves when the nozzle is inserted.
