Gerald Genta famous for his jump hour watches was bought out by Bulgari. This is an interesting watch review comparison between the older style Gerald Genta watches and the new Bulgari pieces the brand is creating.

The armadillo-type rubber bracelet for the Genta Octo is absolutely fascinating and I hope they bring this design back for the Finissimo.

Such a great comparison review! I've always been fascinated with the jump hour and retrograde complication and I must say Bulgari has done a fairly good job on keeping the DNA of both Gerald Genta and Daniel Roth a live. It's just a pity that people have the perceived value of the Bulgari branding on the dial as a downside.

I started to appreciate GG watches because he’s a pure designer first than a businessman. I studied graphic design and i know the design ethics and designer’s love for their own design products. But i think GG’s watches are under appreciated and people only know him because of his AP and Patek’s designs. this man could do much more than just design. I love to own one of his piece one day once i sold my AP royal oak.😜👍

I’m thinking on either one of these “Bvlgari-Genta” or a “Ulysse Nardin Freak” with a blue dial

Point of order, Tim. The Bvlgari Octo that you have in your right hand had nothing to do with Gerald Genta, other than his name being used.
The case was designed in 2004 by Bvlgari’s internal design department, but the movements were original Genta modules.
Versions of the same watch, with only Genta’s name on show, were made between 2004 and 2010, when they dropped GG from the dial and rotor altogether.
By that stage, the complications modules were being made in-house in Le Sentier.

Tim said that the design origins derived from Genta in the late 60s/70s as Genta was obsessed with the interplay of octagons and circles and layering of said shapes. You can see this design motif evolve over Genta's 27 years running his company. But true, the Octo watch itself was designed by Bulgari and Genta the company after a failed attempt of Genta employing external design consultants. The Octo watch uses all the design cues that Genta himself created which include the dial layout of the '12' and '6', which comes from Genta's 'Bulgari Bulgari' design from 1977; the octagon and circle bezel from his Royal Oak design; and the knurled crown from his Grande Sonnerie.
