I believe Margaret Avery was one of the pioneers in Lip Syncing she did such a great all around acting job for the movie the Color Purple. That scene Maybe God is Trying to Tell you Something was outstanding.
This song is a part of my deliverance testimony from cigarettes And marijuana! I was in my bathroom smoking a cigarette and I didn’t have any left so I put it out halfway so that I could smoke it in the morning on my way to the store to get another pack. This song kept playing in my mind and it will just get faster and faster and I just looked up and said Lord are you trying to tell me something? I dropped that half a cigarette in the toilet and flushed ! February 14 hallelujah Valentine’s Day 2021 he delivered me from smoking anything! And every time I hear this song I cry like a newborn baby because he delivered me from a 35 year bondage! Some people would say it was a stronghold and I admit it had a strong hold on me but I was in bondage I was a slave to smoking because I would go without one thing in order to get the other two! Yahweh is amazing and you don’t know how or when he’s gonna speak to you so we got to keep our ears open hallelujah he put an ear in the middle of your heart so you could hear what he was saying now that’s art from the Father! HE EAR HEAR ART HEART!!! HALLELUJAH And if he did it for me he’ll do it for somebody else! Listen because this song is telling the truth, maybe God is trying to tell you something!
I would always cry on that part of the Color Purple my daughter would always look at me she new the tears were coming. Thank U Tata Vega for that 🎶 Song🎶 I Love U 🥰 ET
If this song don't hit you like a ton of bricks with the holy ghost, goose bumps or something then I just don't know.. This is a very powerful song and her voice is so on point it's amazing how a song can make you feel..how good it feels to know the Lord is real and loves you and I.
Im at work listening and was so caught off guard. My whole body is covered in chills! Praise be to the Most High! God Bless you Ms Vega and peace love and an abundance of blessings to anyone reading this message.
This scene from the movie gets me every time....but today, June 6, 2020, it should speak to everyone...after the double blow of the last 3 months and then the last week...thank you Tata for sharing your gift. Especially now.
Darn it. I did not know her voice was used in that part. Darn it. I was wondering what going on... when I heard Ms. Avery really sing. Now, that's the voice I was looking for. Alright.
Who sound the same 27yrs later? Though I understand... Mr.Coley, Kim.B, Marvin Winans, Fred, CeCe, Yolanda and a hand full of others are still great later in any GENRE...
Casey Walker Absolutely correct. Again, I believe she's one of the best spiritual singers I ever heard, and she is still beautiful as well. Good afternoon!
Olivia LaBorde Absolutely!!! I swear I thought the same thing. Although she sounds good, she sounds totally different, no where near the same, but I guess it was in the 80's and it been two decades when she sang this song.
I absolutely love this woman! I think I actually met her when she was singing at a small venue (maybe a church coffehouse?) in the northeast. Her personality is as infectious as her voice is compelling. I wish I could remember the first recording I heard by her that caused me to check out more of her music. I think it was in the early to mid 80s, maybe after she came out with her first CCM or gospel album? Trying to find it.
I couldn’t agree more when I went to talk to her after the gospel concert she was just as friendly as she was on the mic. A lot of entertainers they would not respond to you or try to belittle you but she is genuine.
Its so amazing that all these yrs I heard and love that song Oh it is jesus and I could find it because I was looking for it under the name " Touch the hem of his garment" It took Andrae death to finally found and I love the voice of Tata Vega.
Thank you so much Miss Vega... just a very powerful and inspiring song I thank you so much for sharing it with the world😀😀😀 your voice is still outstanding.... bravo bravo bravo😀😀😀😀😍😍😍😍😍💝💝💝💝💝
I have to see the actual 1988 /89 movie performance for shug because even though it sounds familiar its not the same, so I'm searching Google for it now.
Hey Jackie Farris sang on this song also. Her voice sounds like when the tempo changes, from that point on. I don't know her exact contribution but someone should ask
@Mistercharming Have you been there? I have seen those chairs around there! It is a church a lot of ministers gladly take the invitation to preach there.
I wouldn't call this song "Speak Lord" because it could be confused with "Speak Lord" by Tamela Mann, which is an entirely different song. I would call it "God Is Trying To Tell You Something".. On another note, Tata's voice sure has changed over the years.

Her voice definitely has changed since the 80's like normally, but she is still an amazing singer, one of the best in the music industry.

Thank you lords and my Angels 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have to see the actual 1988 /89 movie performance for shug because even though it sounds familiar its not the same, so I'm searching Google for it now.

Tata nasty with it!!!!
@kriggans1 For sure it takes raw talent to be sangin' like that; some artist need a recording engineer to sound good but she brings it every time.
Why am I just hearing this now? Why she never said anything when this moving came out? I hope she received a hefty check.

This song is older than Tamela Manns song. She should have name her song Speak Lord after this classic.
☺♥
All these years, I thought Margaret Avery song this song
What a powerful voice 🎤🎶❣️🎶 she has".
