    Conclusion, The response from vehicle to vehicle was completely opposite, Grand marquis: 139.3db peak @ the 34hz then tapers down to about a 135db at 49hz, Then the escalade: 136.2 @ 34hz and gains all the way through 49hz.
    Just wanted to show how drastically one vehicle can respond from another! Let me know what you think about this experiment!

      www.GPcarAudio.com Great idea! Did you see if the score is higher with the enclosure closer to the hatch or backed up against the rear of the rear seat, but still facing towards the rear? Maybe a frequency change like that?

    • @gpcaraudio
      @gpcaraudio  6 лет назад +1

      What's up man, I kept this relatively simple and had them loading about 6 inches from the rear hatch. Typically on a setup this small in that large of a vehicle the loading off the hatch is very important for the sound getting to the dash. On past builds with this style of enclosure configuration the further away from the hatch the lower the score.
      To really take advantage of what is possible on the 6.5"s in that vehicle ( if spl is the only concern) its best to tune up around 45hz subs up port back.

    • @lmadden6236

      www.GPcarAudio.com so to have much better output from your subs the box has to be tune higher frequency or what

    • @gpcaraudio
      @gpcaraudio  6 лет назад

      If you are chasing numbers tuning higher will almost always easily reward you with a higher number on the dash. This can vary per vehicle the installation is going in. You just have to remember, the higher you tune the less musical the system can be.

    This is one of the biggest things people overlook, as well as me! I have a 2000 civic coupe and my system in there seems to like the mid to upper 40 hz range and I thought my system wasnt good for the lower bass notes, I put my system in an 09 impala and it got DOWN! And that was with my amp that still seemed to struggle on the lower side of bass, and with my other amp it got even lower! Was much louder and hit so much deeper, inside the car it didnt sound anywhere CLOSE to the same system! Its not always about the equipment, the vehicle makes just as big of difference as the system itself!!!

    This is CRAZY!! I was just EXPLAINING this to a friend. SAME SET UP ( 2 A.A. CHAOS 12'S/VFL amp), moved from my Volvo to Caravan 2db gain. More air space to fill, and a higher score? Doesn't make sense but, YES!!! Definitely will be sharing this video ALOT!

      lower frequency waves have more time to mature in bigger vehicles but real lows fall away cause the wave length is bigger than the actual vehicle and the flex adds a harmonic and tends to cancel the lows out

    Thank you! I have been waiting for someone to post a video on this topic! I have some questions of my own. I used to have my single 12” Sundown Audio in a box built to spec (2 cubic feet tuned to 35 Hz with sub back & port back) in a 2001 Toyota Camry. It KILLED the lows, peaking somewhere in the 30 Hz range, but the higher bass notes, such as the 50s, were not as prominent. When I moved the EXACT same setup into a 2004 4Runner, I noticed a massive decrease in the lows that I once had & loved in the Camry, but the higher bass notes - which I do not care nearly as much for - were more authoritative. I have tried moving my enclose into numerous different positions, but I have been unsuccessful in achieving the same kind of soul-shaking lows like I once had in the Camry. Like I mentioned, my current enclosure is built to spec, so do I need to build a different enclosure to achieve the same kind of lows? Would building an enclosure with the sub up and port back make a difference? Do I need to build an enclosure that is tuned lower? Do I need to add a second subwoofer? Or is there no way to work around the dynamics of the 4Runner? I really, really miss the lows I had in my Camry & am at a loss on how to get them back in the 4Runner, so any input would help! Thank you for your time & patience!

      Down the road we will start getting more technical and share some tricks.
      There is also so many more variables. I will work on covering them all.

  • @psementalist
    @psementalist 6 лет назад +3

    Correct me if I'm wrong my dear friend and brother Tyler. You'd get a totally different tuning in a different sounding as well your not going to get the same numbers in a different vehicle.

    • @gpcaraudio
      @gpcaraudio  6 лет назад +2

      What's up man, the tuning remains the same on the enclosure (34hz), the goal in this video is to show how different the same system can perform from one vehicle to another. And yes correct, the playable bandwidth measurements were almost opposite from vehicle to vehicle.
      The Grand Maruis- 139.3 at 34 hz and fades down to about a 135 at 50hz, where the escalade 136.2 at 34hz gains all the way through 49hz (140.6)

Crazy how the car and box combo can make or break a system! I am only pushing this sub with a alpine mrv-m500 as well!

    • @gpcaraudio
      @gpcaraudio  6 лет назад

      Yup! speaking of mustangs,
      Our budget chevy cobalt build back in the day, single 10 on 600 watts, did a 138 somthing in the cobalt,
      I took that system out (amp sub and box) and put it in my stepson's mustang, with all settings exactly the same, his peak went to 62hz and did a 142, literally nothing different at all, just the vehicle.
      That was my original motivation to make this video just took me a while.

    Hi bro, i need to ask a question about this topic, cuz i had designed a box for a single 12" pioneer sub 1400 watt max and this box is tuned to 23 hz, but unfortunately the box isn't even playing 30 hz loud and clean, and everything below 29 hz can't be heard, u can only hear the mechanical noise of the the sub, could the vehicle be the reason behind this failure ???
    Thx in advance sir and great video by the way, keep up the good work 😊😊

    • @gpcaraudio
      @gpcaraudio  6 лет назад +1

      What's up man, there is a lot of variables here, 23hz is also an extremely low tune and there is not a lot of music out there to play on that with the range of play it would have with that low of a tune,. It sounds like maybe its tuned up around 36-40hz if 29hz and down is not audible, but again so many variables, you could be having cancellation issues, all the way to a possible error on the enclosure.

    • @7modi092
      @7modi092 6 лет назад +1

      www.GPcarAudio.com well I know that 23 hz is a very low freq. but when it comes to music, I have a lot, used to download modified bass songs before they removed them like decaf, djsnt, djdb,... etc, anyway, what i need u know is that many experts told me that this can be due to the cheap sub that am using, but this doesn't make sense I guess, so what u think bro ??

    • @crunkjuice29
      @crunkjuice29 6 лет назад +2

      Your box definitely isnt tuned to 23hz you would slam 20-30hz especially if you are playing 29hz and it just sounds like air.

    • @7modi092
      @7modi092 6 лет назад

      crunkjuice29 that is what supposed to happen, bro, I heard that some subs brands especially the cheap ones can't go to 20 hz, is that right ??

    • @crunkjuice29
      @crunkjuice29 6 лет назад +2

      Not true at all i mean some subs will sound a lot better with the lows but you should still be able to hit below 30hz strong if your box is tuned to 23hz. My box is tuned to 30hz and i play down to 25hz full tilt and it sounds amazing i hate anything above 30hz.

It was dropping stuff off his roof and knocking the windows off track. Didn't do that in my explorer. Now that I learned a lot since about 10 years ago, I'm assuming his truck peaked a whole lot lower than mine

    • @gpcaraudio
      @gpcaraudio  6 лет назад +2

      In a ported enclosure, It depends on the driver and how much power you have. Typically you can manipulate larger gains by going larger on the enclosure, you just have to be sure your port velocity is dialed in correctly.. The larger you go the more "peaky" the enclosure will be, but if your're just going for numbers, thats not an issue, just have to be careful what you play and learn the playable range of frequencies.

      in the tahoe's/ denali's/ and escalades, cargo area builds under the window line subs up port back has always yielded the easiest numbers. It has to do with how everything loads in the cargo area.
