After 15 years, a new Easter egg has been discovered in Half-Life: Decay, and it's been sitting right under our noses all along. Or, is that under our 'button' all along?

I like to think that Keller was just so spooked by one of his colleagues randomly shooting a button panel that his mind went totally blank and that was the best he could do for a mission briefing.
honestly probably just put in for devs testing the level repeatedly who don't want to hear the dialogue again.
I'm surprised that it wasn't a feature for those parts in Half-Life 2 where you're just standing around

Haha, that is so spicy from devs. If you're the sort of impatient shit who shoots the first prop that stands out within 5 seconds of the level loading the NPC is just like "Well clearly you don't give a fuck about the story so just go do the next thing".

How accurate would you say the fanmade PC port is, Marph?
Pretty much almost the same it has its misses.
The fanmade port is about 80-90% accurate, at least when focusing strictly on the Decay portion. The general PS2 features like the targeting system and enemy/button highlights were deliberately not ported as they didn't apply to PC players. In regards to Decay, the models, animations, sounds, and scripting are all perfectly authentic. The levels themselves are not and could not aim to be 100% perfect ports, however, as the mappers had to recreate much of the geometry based on decompiled versions, the decompiling process breaking most of the brush work. The end result map differences are largely inconsequential, though, and in many cases the fanmade maps are visually better as they didn't have to worry about the strict console performance restrictions.
As a big Half Life fan I still never actually played Decay, is it worth messing with?

Jeff Broxton Worth it indeed there's a free port of it on the internet and if you have a buddy along it's super fun.
I loved Decay mode, it was an awesome time with my brother back when we only had a PS2 and Half-Life to play. Decay has it's own side story that correlates with the main story, but back when I was a child, my brother and I didn't care much about the story, we just loved shooting aliens together.

When I was a child, I played a lot of decay mode on the PS2, this is because it was easier and I got to play with my brother doing splitscreen co-op. Wish they actually released more levels to play rather than cutting it short.

What was the reason for not including it in European release?
i guess nobody shot the button so they said fuck it let's take that out
It's probably one of shortcuts developers added in game to shorten the dialogue (for playtesting) but forgot to remove before the release
I suppose that localization team stumbled upon this line while working on European release, asked developers "what is this?" and devs went "ooohh, we forgot to remove it", and removed the "easter egg"

This Easter egg is not in the PC port as the levels there were based on the EU versions.

The button really just speeds up the dialogue. I think they had speedruns in mind when designing the button.

It makes me wonder if this was some type of "testing feature" similar to the weird big red button in 'Forget About Freeman'. It seems like joke placeholder dialog as it isn't incredibly specific and doesn't tie to the actions that trigger it.
Maybe somebody snuck it in as a joke but it was caught in the European release? TCRF states the European release came out later.

Fact: Dr. Keller is not disabled
You can find ALL KINDS of secrets and easter eggs in the Decay dialogue. All you need is a program called PakExplorer and you can open up the .pak files for Half-Life, its expansion packs, and mods. I was never a developer or even a modder, but just as a geek and a completionist I used to rip through the files in my games looking for shit like this. There were more outtakes in Decay, I think, than any other Half-Life game that came out before it.

Let's do new previous stuff
Why Decay cant be relevant now its sad really cuz Decay is canon in the Half life universe the plot is not as important as "Gordon silent freeman" but it added more lore and explanation to the game franchise. For example in the Half life multiplayer theres two female characters one is Gina Cross and the other is Colette Green and you can see Gina in the tutorial as a hologram. In the expansion Opposing Force you can see in the xen level the dead body of Colette Green T.T so on in the end i was pissed when i played HF 2 for the first time and found out theres no fucking clue to what happened to Gina Cross or Adrian Shepard.
