How to Replace the Auger Drive Belt on a Toro Power Max Snow Blower.

- This video will show how to replace the drive belt for your auger on your Toro snow blower.
Usually the sign of a bad belt is that it has broke off, so the auger does not run at all, or it may be stretched or worn, causing the auger to not run well with a heavy snow load due to the belt slipping.
If you are in a situation where your auger partially runs, such as just the impeller, or just the blades, that problem is not the belt, but will be shear-bolts that have broken off due to an obstruction. Replace those, and that should take care of that issue.
This particular snow blower is the Power Max 826 OXE.
Belt part number is 106-4498
Great video! And timely! Two recommendations - 1) good illumination (a utility light) is helpful when attempting to align the new belt onto the lower pulley and 2), stuff an old rag under the upper pulley when removing/reattaching the guard to minimize the chance of dropping a bolt or washer into the blower.
Yeah lighting was tough, this was the best it could be as I work during the day and the evening was the only time I had. Nice thought for the rag though! That definitely didn't cross my mind.
Great video. I’ll be changing my auger belt tomorrow before our first substantial snow storm coming Sunday. Well lit video, good pacing and tips, I’ll post my results but I definitely know what to do now. Thanks for taking the time to share your expertise.
Happy to help! Hope it worked well for ya!
Thanks so much for doing this. I couldn't remember that the rod went through the brake assembly, and your video should me just how to do that.
Hey no problem! That part is probably the toughest, so I tried to focus on it carefully.
@@Sharkie626 Perfect. I put it together as though I knew what I was doing. ☺
Thanks for a great video haven’t had to change that belt yet but at least if I ever have to change it,which I’m sure the day will come I now at least know what I’m getting myself into.
Looks pretty simple and ya a little bit of patience will probably need, but it’s not rocket science.
So once again thanks for a great video.👍👍😀
Hey no problem! May seem a little involved at first, but with some help how-to, it's not bad at all!
I realize that this video is from 2022 and it was a good video, but I was wondering if you could create a drive belt replacement video as opposed to the auger belt replacement which this video covered? I recently purchased a Toro 826 Power Max and am just curious how it is done. Also, are the auger and the drive belts actually two different belts or are they the same belt?
I might actually be replacing that belt soon, we'll see how it goes. Both belts are different I believe.
We’re already buried in a foot and a half of snow on Long Island
Yeah here in CT is a good amount too!
Hi, I have Toro powermax 824 OE. Could you please show me how to replace Auger blades and Auger gearbox oil. Thanks
Mine died yesterday, will attmept this fix at the weekend :-( hopefully the belt is the problem.
I found that you don't need to remove the bracket. Either you or someone else can depress the auger handle. These allows you to sneak the belt around the bottom pulley without the hastle of removing that piece. I had that belt swapped out and the blower back running in less than five minutes.
You sure? Many videos I watched involved removing the bracket. And believe me, I looked as hard as I could to see if I could do without it, and it did not seem such.
That was fairly straightforward. Always nice to be able to do it indoors like that, on a day where there's not 47 feet of snow out there, and it didn't just break on you, and you don't have the whole rest of the property to finish cleaning up. When that happens, the job is nowhere near as fun or straightforward.
I guess you noticed last time you used it that it wasn't really engaging well. That belt was most certainly stretched, and I suppose it's going to be getting a very good test on the new one very soon.
Only the best conditions in Connecticut hun! It very much did work out. I was actually clearing away some stuff that was a little slushy a couple of weeks ago, and towards the end, the auger literally just stopped going. I pushed on the handle again for a short time and only slight engine RPM change instead of near-stalling. I knew right away it was a belt problem. Luckily there was not too much left so I put the snow blower in, and got the rest off the old fashioned way. So glad we don't have a driveway as large as we used to.
Immediately called a place that I know carries these parts, gave them the brand, model and serial number, and the part I was looking for and he said "Oh yeah we got plenty of them!" Perfect.
@@Sharkie626 Might look into replacing that missing bolt. Depot probably would carry them. And if I must critique, I think those bolts for the cover could use just a tickle more torque. A loose bolt will rattle out. Just a tiny bit more might be all they need. Another option would be to find some rubber washers that fit under the head of the bolt, and that will give a cushion to the plastic and also allow them to be installed a bit tighter.
Good tutorial! I bet it's working perfectly now.
Thanks! Just used it yesterday, you could hear a much stronger engagement every time the handle was pushed!
I LOVE HOW THEY CHANGE THIS WITH THE NEW MODELS..
The new models the brake thing that you keep taking out is actually underneath so much easier.. You don't have to take it out at all.. just have to take the spring out underneath which is very easy.
You could take both belt off with just taking springs off each the auger, and the drive
Real simple.
A lot of people like to try to fidget with it and push it through and stuff like that..
What I do is I always take the bottom off I push it through then I tip it upside down on the front So I can get underneath and make sure everything is on correctly..
May seem more difficult but it's actually easier..
Toro is always improving
The best thing about this video is that it convinced me to take my snowblower to the shop.
I have a toro 828 lx will it be the same ?
Possibly, would have to look inside.
Great video! I have a Powermax 826 OXE that I need to replace the auger belt on. This video will make that process a LOT smoother! Thank you! I have a question though. According to Toro's parts website, the part number for the auger belt is 120-3892. Why would they have a different part number listed on their website than what is in the machine? Just want to make sure I buy the right part. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
That belt number might be for the wheel drive. Is it a toothed belt? I know mine is for that.
thanks so much. i did it my self. i was so proud. the only thing i had a problem with was because the auger kept spining always. finally adjust the pouli to the other setting hole and voila.
No problem! I actually had to check how to do some stuff before the video, but it ended up working out great.
Thank you very much for this. I'll be changing my belt(s) soon.
You're very welcome! Hope it goes well!
Great advice and imstructions…Pro tip…if you are in there changing 1 belt, change both.
Ya know I actually did consider that....after the video of course haha. But it's still working okay for now, i think after this season, I'll buy a replacement and keep it on hand just in case.
It sounds like the auger mechanism on my 826 is jammed/frozen. When I push the handle to engage the auger, the motor bogs down and wants to quit. Thoughts?
Something could be stuck in there, or maybe a really bad bearing.
@@Sharkie626 yes make sure you don’t have anything jammed toro does not use sheer pins those are bolts. Get a jam it design to kill engine
Awesome video, replaced my auger belt yesterday, works perfectly, throwing snow 20 feet away. Imagine shoveling 2 feet deep of snow for 2 - 2 wide driveways
Nice work! It's amazing what a new belt does on these things, right?
Excellent video. My original belt is stretched too and needs replaced. Thank you so much for the information.
No problem! Glad it helped ya!
Great video Sharkie. You didn't even need to split the unit like a lot of other brands require. Toro is the way to go. I'm gonna check my belt health in a month or two when I service the unit in the off season. All the best.
Thanks! Yeah I was impressed too that there was no need to do any further disassembly. I've had good luck with Toro for a long time now, and I hope it stays that way!
Thanks for the Video.. it sure came in handy today..
Good to hear! Glad it helped ya.
I wanted to say congrats on 6K subscribers! It will keep growing.
Thanks a lot! Steady growth is the best! :)
Awesome thanks i did what u said & blower is back to good !!!
Very nice! Hope it works great now!
Excellant video, now I will change mine.
Hope it goes well for ya!
Even though it never snows out here in Vegas because it’s a desert, I enjoyed this video a lot.
Well thanks a lot for watching!
@@Sharkie626 you’re welcome
Nice job, a little dark at times though.
Yeah sorry about that, I tried to make the lighting as well as I could.
Thanks for that Belt video😊
You are very welcome!
Very helpful! Thank you.
Hey no problem!
