Easily one of the best repair videos I have ever watched!! I have to replace my Toro Auger Bearing this weekend and watching this video will make it much easier. The outdoor lighting showed every bit of detail and your narration was superb! I hope you are happy with your repair but I also hope you don't use it this year! That is, unless you like being outside doing snow removal!! ;) Thank you for taking the time to do this video!
You showed me everything I needed to know. The ball should be replace with a sealed ball bearing. That ball without a grease fitting . . . . Great job on the video!!!
One comment said that the bearing should be replace with a sealed bearing. However, the initial Toro's had that and failed. The ball is self alinging. You can add a grease nipple and extension hose to the hearing to greas it each time you use it. Should now last forever.
Great video. Thanks for making it. I watched it this morning sipping my coffee as a refresher before I started on my own snowblower. You had some great points I had never thought of, like how to remove the 2 square bolts holding the pulley on. It worked like a charm. A couple of points I would like to bring up. More for ease of doing the job for me and preventive maintenance that my friend learned the hard way. 1. For ease of getting off the 6 side bolts that holds the frames together, temporarily remove the tires as it gives you full access to all 6 bolts for easier removal. When I did this I was able to use my impact to remove the 4 bolts and loosen the other 2 quickly. 2. When the complete auger assembly is off, remove the two forward augers off their shafts and apply Neverseize on the shafts. My buddy had the centre gearbox self-destruct (over $200 for a new one) when he hit something because the augers were seized by rust onto the driveshafts not allowing the shear pins to break. In his case we had to beat off the augers by putting the bolts that hold the two forward bearings into place, suspending the whole auger assembly off the ground with one hand and BEATING on the bolt head on the end of the shaft with a 3 lb sledge. When doing mine today they also required to be beaten off and my unit has not been uses that much. I used 180 Emery cloth to remove most of the rust on the shafts and then liberally applied Neverseize on the shaft and reinstalled the augers. I also put Neverseize on the shear pins as they were stuck in place too and had to be beaten out. Figured since I had come this far into the disassembly might as well look and glad I did. 3. When I removed the wheels one was seized onto the shaft. When I got it loose I cleaned up the shafts and also added Neverseize onto these shafts too when I reinstalled them. 4.That was a great suggestion to repaint the inside with a rustproofing paint. Had an used can of Tremclad white lying around and fired for effect not for looks. Again, a great forward, clear video.
Good points but the PowerMax doesn't have shear pins those are hardened steel bolts the engine is made to slow down and if need be shut off it's a weird feature but never had those bolts break
@@RayFixesAll Thanks for that info, that is really good to know. I was wondering why when I was taking my unit apart there were grade 5 bolts where I thought shear pins would be. Just figured the previous owner had replaced the shear pins as they broke. My buddies unit that I had mentioned was an older unit and had shear bolts that did not shear.
@49Roadmaster yeah look it up for some reason this unit doesn't use shear pins it has a special I don't know what it's called something in the motor that slows it down instead
@@RayFixesAll thank you for the info. I had asked the guy at the toro dealer and too confirmed that they were grade 5 bolts. I am going to have to trust the experts. Kind of cool that they do not have shear pins now. I hated changing them in - 40 weather.
Is this the same way for my Toro power max 826 OAE , this passed winter I hard a noise when I ingauge my auger on. Like a warling noise when ingauging it. It never did this before. Should I check the tensioner pully and adjust it. I got it just before covid started and I seen it has a Recall on it? This model is one peace. I live in newhampton n.y
That's funny I'm having same trouble with mine I plan on looking at it I'll record it and show you a fix as I get it done I plan to look at it tomorrow make sure you're subscribed and you'll see the video pop up
OK. Here's the deal. Looking at mine, as you'ere looking down on the dandles from the back, on the trans side , there's a little cam with a cut in it and a spring loaded "tooth" if you will, that's supposed to engage the "cut" . When I pull the auguer handle down, it doesn't move the cam far enough for the tooth to engage. If I disengage the auger cable completly, it works just fine and it locks the handle, but any tension on the auger cable stops the process from working. Take a look at yours and see if it's the same.@@RayFixesAll
@monteroder2708 I looked at mine mine is locking but if I let go the auger stops even though it's still locked in is that same problem yours is having if I repress the auger just a little it engages again

I have to replace my bearing on my toro , just watched your video, great work you made it look easy going to try it Thanks!

Thanks it's not to hard would definitely be easier if you have somebody holding the engine side while you split the machine though
These dam things should have grease fittings 🤬 You did a great job and a great video 😊
I definitely agree with the grease fittings thank you and thanks for watching 😀
Brilliant. Thanks. I need to do this too.
Your welcome

Yes it should be just make sure to order correct bearing replacement just in case it's a different size
Really helps, thanks!
You're welcome 🤗
Any suggestion to help where the auger handle does not stay locked down on a 1030 lxe power max?
You mean when using one handed correct?
Yes. The right handle contros the auger and it is supposed to stay locked but it doesn't anymore@@RayFixesAll

That cracked plastic cover has lifetime warranty. I got mine replaced for free on my 13 year old toro
Really nice I wish I bought it new this was used so I don't think warranty would carry over
It did for me. Bought mine used too
