    Been using the punch CVT for my suprima S.. since 2013. Never had cvt slipped. Retuned ECU, achieved almost 250NM of torque. Still no cvt slip or jerking. Idk where all the hate for this CVT came from. What to do, malaysians.. theyd rather believe wutever their neighbours whisper rather than listening to what the owners would comment. 🤷‍♂️

If they had chosen the 4speed auto even from year 2000... it would outsold the myvi. Front seats very comfortable. Drive it to 4k or 5.5k rpm with the 1.3m.. sweet.

    • @smk8678
      @smk8678 Год назад +3

      @@jonzwikk1582 in terms of reliability I can't comment. I just had the car for 2 months, Executive variant, but so far so good. No rattling noise like what some owners have complained about.
      Some minor "issues" noted:
      1. Throttle electronically cuts power after about 170km/h. Service center said it is a built in safety mechanism
      2. Clutch based gearbox takes some time to get used to unlike conventional torque converters. Can't just step and go, there's a minor delay to allow the clutch to close. Occasionally I have experienced rollback on slopes when the hill assist somehow wasn't working. Workaround is to use handbrake to build rev like manual car.
      3. There's also a minor but noticeable jerk when cruising at low speeds, all cvt cars experience this issue to some degree, but Iriz's felt much noticeable than the Jazz or City. I assume it is due to Iriz using clutch instead of torque converter.
      4. Fuel consumption abit on the high side if you compare with Myvi nowadays. But that's expected since Iriz is about 200kg heavier.
      5. Gearbox ratio is like the older 4 speed gearbox. At 100km/h I get 2.7k rpm. If myvi I think it's 2k or lesser.
      Pros: 1. Handling. Feels almost on par, if not slightly better than Jazz. The suspension is stiff but not too harsh. Go ahead and whack the corner :)
      2. You can take it to 170km/h without any floating or vibration thanks to the strong chassis. Tried on Dash highway. And combined with its good handling and 1200kg body, it's a more enjoyable car for going outstation (comparing with myvi)
      3. The seats are great. You'll have to test drive to compare.
      Lemme know if you have any other questions, I'll try to answer

      Found one myself that was low mileage for a decent price but absolutely disrespected. Engine oil was not changed for years and smelled burnt, leaking head gasket, issues with LED (suspect wiring issue which can get expensive), rust in radiator, cooling coil likely gone, timing belt change needed and finally the Proton trademark rattle. Would have purchased if the price was lowered to match the repairs needed.

      You have more important things to worry about when owning a car than thinking about if it makes you feel like a man. Owning a truck or SUV won't make your chest hair grow any more than a compact car does.

      I owned a preve turbo 2012 and its still with me now (hesitate to sell because of preve excellent driving experience). this is the first proton model which introduced with CVT transmission. For me punch CVT was not too bad as my CVT broken down after 10 years old with 200,000km mileages. There are owners which were unlucky that their CVT broken down only after 4-6 years old. When I bring my car to rebuild the transmission I saw Perodua Bezza & Civic FC was also inside the workshop due to CVT failure which definitely a cars which less than 10 years old. I guess from my experience, the durability of CVT transmission is really depending on the interval service of the transmission and the way u drive the car itself. Everyone know CVT was put into a car for fuel effectiveness and it was not designed for high intensity driving or for very hard & rough ride. During the time proton introduce CVT, there are not many cars using CVT and users did not aware of this and thought that they can treat CVT like normal AT transmission which I think the main reason why a lot CVT transmission failed earlier than expected.
