"The more you learn, the more you understand how little you actually know."
I've always found that very humbling.
No matter how much you think you know, there will always be more to learn.

Thank you for this discussion on humility. To be humble requires that we give up our idea that we know what's best in any situation. This attitude cuts us off from the reality of life. For example, in Steps to Knowledge, Marshall Vian Summers writes "You do not know what you want for the world because you do not understand the world, and you have not yet been able to see its predicament. When you realize that you do not know.... this gives you the motivation and the opportunity to observe the world, to look again. This is essential for your understanding. It is essential for your well-being... You do not know what you want for the world, but your Knowledge knows what it must contribute. Without your attempting to replace Knowledge with your own designs... Knowledge will express itself freely without obstruction, and you and the world will be the great beneficiaries of its gifts." (Steps to Knowledge, MVS)
Without humility, we are blind to ourselves and to the world and cannot offer what we have come here to give. This is a high price to pay for holding onto our prideful attitudes.

Humility is the beginning and the end of a spiritual being. At the moment I am humbly accepting medical attention for leukaemia.
There is no struggle here just contented compliance. My mind is settled and the body is gradually following And I am grateful for all the care I receive.
Thanks Jason and Gayoung as always for an excellent exposition of chpt 22.

Gayoung and Jason I have watched this teaching twice and learned a little more each time. Humility is what makes you better. It allows you to listen, be thoughtful and see choices in a clearer way. I have a varied and deep education and the more I learn the more I realize I don't know. Education can solve one question and creates 10 more. Great video.

Yield and Overcome has become a maxim, a mantra, a reminder.
As someone raised in the dominator culture of Western society to be a mindless foot soldier of passion and idolized virtue, I feel a deep conviction. Everything in my life revolved around winning and doing the right things and having the right possessions and was always couched as 'us vs. them.'
With compassion, both for myself and others, I see how misinformed I have been, misaligned to what is while trying to force the world to align with what I desired. Humility has become my only practice, patience my only effort, compassion my only tool.
"Why is the sea the king of a hundred streams?" Lao Tzu asks, "Because it lies below them. Humility is what gives it strength."

With that I mean we can’t take anything with us but we surely leave something behind.. good or bad but definitely we leave something. And I just hope that we leave something good and positive to others 💚

Although I enjoy your channel and was a great platform for me to dive into these philosophies, there is no comparison to a book for me to really establish and concrete the ideas in my brain. They compliment each other really well. I’m looking forward to reading more. Thank you for all you do 🙏🏻

I think the same thing applies to water and why so many people underestimate the power of water, and drown as a result.

Once I understood this to be a message of humility. I saw how humility was a part of all spiritual paths whether it was a surrender of creation to a creator or a surrender of the ego. Seeking to place the self first always prevented a true understanding of the non-self. Now I understand this differently. Why try to create change where change did not create itself? There is no need to convince, to explain, to disclose because everything is as it is and there is no need for change beyond change or to control or initiate that change. Perhaps this is the true humility. To seek to control change or to suggest that others should change or that the world should change in a certain way, such as insisting that sentient beings must or are indeed working toward an awakening of some sort, is to lack humility. What will be will be and true humility is to accept that without differentiation.

Hey, hopefully you will see this i'm interested about what you said after 27:10 where you speak about tai chi chuan after that you mention the ability of "...". I was not able understand the word you were saying, could you please write me the name of the ability? I would highly appreciate it.

  • @dwainbryan6037
    @dwainbryan6037 2 года назад +2

I think the Tai Chi analogy is a good one but...and this is a big but, the person who achieved song in their mind, body and energies spent hours upon hours, failure upon failure to achieve that. The amount of sacrifice, effort and perseverance it takes to achieve song is outrageous to a normal mind, even beyond comprehension, like an Olympic athlete.
I feel that spiritual practice can't escape effort, no matter how skillful, there is a huge amount of effort until that release is experienced.
