  • Whether it's a construction project, your garden growing over the season, or capturing wildlife throughout the day, the Technaxx HD Time Lapse Camera is a great solution. Battery-powered, it can take video time-lapse or photo time laps for six months completely unattended, outdoors, and even strapped to a tree in the forest. But there are some limitations worth knowing about before you make a purchase decision, as tech expert Dave Taylor explains in this Technaxx Time Lapse Camera demo and review.

    Hello Dave, thanks for the coverage. I came up to the overview while looking for a 30 days/10 minutes interval camera for shooting plants. Have you (or could you) test the camera for macro shooting of plants? Does it have some solution for night as well? Your inputs will be invaluable as I don't have the product and would be happy to know before ordering it

      If you're still curious, anyything about 6-8inches or closer, is blurry, and theres no way to focus. (I been try8ing to timelapse my pitcher plant... after 2mnths waiting, i just discovered I had it on the wrong mode... *Pout* soo.. here I am watching this video.. lol

    Hello, we set up 2 TX-164 cameras for a construction site. The construction site went 3 months. Now that we wanted to look at everything, we had to realize that both cameras simply stopped in the meantime :-(. One camera stopped after 13 days and the other after a month. The batteries were still half full and the memory cards (Sandisk ultra 128 GB) were empty still up to 80% empty. What could something like that be? Have set up 2 cameras just to be on the safe side and now no usable recordings.

      Ah, super frustrating! I have no idea what might have happened, but I would definitely counsel that you reach out to Technaxx for their suggestions.

    Hi Dave! Just got this device today and am setting up now. Have a construction project starting in the morning. You said you started out with one photo every three seconds, but then that seemed slow, so you changed the settings for the rest of your video capture that you showed. If you don't mind my asking; what did you change the settings to? I really liked the rest of your video of the trees project and I think that's what I'm looking for.

      I believe it was one frame/second. I STRONGLY recommend you set it up prior to the project, let it run for a day, then check the footage. I have heard of people who forget to start the capture and then weeks later come back to zero footage. 😞

      You should be able to import it into iMovie on a Mac to edit or Microsoft Movie in Windows (I believe this is an optional download, look in the Windows Store, just make sure the developer is Microsoft to get the original (free) app. Or it might be what Microsoft just rebranded ClipChamp. Not 100% sure 🙂 )

      I do not, but you could email Technaxx to ask them!

    Can the exposure (white balance, aperture and/or shutter speed) be locked in when shooting begins, so the camera doesn’t continually adjust the exposure to maintain a consistent brightness? For example, I shot a sunset with 2 different cameras, neither a Technaxx. One was my cellphone using an APP which has settings to lock in the exposure when the shoot is started. The other was an action camera. The cellphone correctly rendered the colors of the sunset, growing dimmer as the sun set until the entire frame was black from lack of light (it correctly faded to black). The action camera continually corrected for white balance and failed to capture any of the beautiful colors of the sunset, by rendering colors various shades of white to maintain brightness. Sunsets don’t look that way to the naked eye. A sunset video should grow darker, capture the dimming colors, and not blow out the colors in trying to maintain a constant white balance. I would consider the Technaxx camera IF the exposure controls could be locked and the true colors of a fading sunset could be captured.

      I don't think it can do that, no, but you might check with Technaxx.

    Very very infromative. Can it be used for a 1 photo a day for the full moon cycle. I'm also planning a seed growing. What is the best time interval between each photo? Many Thanks

    Did you try this in low light as a sky cam? My intention is to use this to capture meteor showers. How well do you think it would work for that?

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  7 месяцев назад

      I did not try that, but theoretically it could work. Have you tried using your smartphone, though, on a tripod? Android and iPhone both have interval video capture nowadays too.

      @@AskDaveTaylor Tried my smart phone with a tripod. Camera did not have the low light capability to capture stars. Since this is supposed to work in low light, it looks like it's worth a try.

      Fair enough. I will say that I've gotten some really cool nighttime (with stars) photos from both my iPhone 15 Pro and my Pixel 6 Pro, but there are some specific night modes. Then again, night mode + interval video might be a non-starter. 🙂

    This camera lacks 4G to monitor the situation from a smartphone in real time.

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  Год назад

      It doesn't even target that market segment; it's not a wifi unit, it's not for surveillance or home security. It's a time lapse camera. A completely different category!

    • @user-ig7gx8ii6w
      @user-ig7gx8ii6w Год назад

      @@AskDaveTaylor I understand. And I'm not talking about Wi-Fi. I'm talking about 4G (or 5G), when you can insert a SIM card from a mobile operator and thus place this camera anywhere, even in the forest. And being at home, sitting in an armchair in front of the fireplace, watching the shooting on your smartphone. 2022 is in the yard.

      @@AskDaveTaylor perhaps you know some kind of video surveillance camera (to watch at any time from a smartphone), but what else could it do time-lapse in automatic mode?

      My intention wasn't to create a how to or tutorial video, however. It's a balance of showing aspects versus spending too much time on them. Thx for the feedback.
