- 2024 T20 World Cup, Day 24.1: Afghanistan v Bangladesh
Another knockout in the group stage, with three teams having a chance based on the result, and Afghanistan did everything they could to not win it, until the point where they started doing things to win it. In the meantime, Bangladesh seemed equally confused about whether winning was actually a good thing. Strange, scrappy, and at times comical, but a tense finish sees the Afghans through.

Everyone wants to be Cricket Analyst but hardly anyone understands the time, resources, energy levels and commitment required to be in the Sports media business. You have to show up no matter what at either early mornings or late nights. Nice work Geoff! Admire the hard yards you and Adam & co. put in for the channel.
Thanks for the kind words, and you're right, there's a lot of unglamorous grunt work that goes into it
Go to sleep geoff 😂
It was all just a dream 💭 💤 😴
I see what you did there. Nice Wiggles.
Shh! Shh! Shh!
Geoff is Asleep
Big thanks for staying up late. Wanted to hear some early reactions.
Our pleasure!

Game of the Tournment
It was WILD
In this worldcup in some what bowlers>batters which is why lesser strong teams have chances to win against strong teams and also its very entertaining to watch too.
We agree. T20 can tend to get a bit... samey, so this has been a lovely pallet cleanser
Very interesting game Geoff. Gulbadin's sprint when Naveen gets the winning wicket is underappreciated.
We need the pickle juice that he drank
Before Super 8 Matches Begin : Fans were saying Ind and Aus will go Semis, Afg vs Ban is preety much useless match.
Turning Point : Afganistan defeat Aus dramatically change everything and i was not expecting the hype and viewership the game Afg vs Ban game had.
The Whole 2 days were way too dramatic till the end, and Climax was Afg vs Ban oh my, that game had everything, drama, emotions, crying, action, choking, oscar level acting, felt like a movie
The consolation prize for Bangladesh is that in a month’s time, both team will meet again in a white ball bilateral series played in Afghanistan’s new home ground, Greater Noida as India has given permission for the Afghans to make it their home ground.
👍
Today's recipe
'Kangaroo roast'😂
Good one
Thanks for all the work Geoff ❤
He's our main man
Adam steering clear of the Afghanistan games after his comments earlier in the tournament? 😂
No, it's just in the middle of the night and he has a family
@@tpjpower Adam here pal - what comments could they be? Have a go.
Man you are awesome! I love your commitment🙃
he seems passionate. never late in making video. i watch occasionally though. May be if there is interesting match to see everyones opinion
Thanks for the kind words!
Stop whining 😂😂😂😂
We're not
In the heat of the moment, I agreed with Simon Doull but then I realized that $31154 is like 3.66M in Bangladesh. Maybe that is like life changing money for them and their board.
Was waiting for ur banter ❤
❤️
Your channel's commitment to the sport is commendable! ❤❤
We appreciate that!
TWF FTW Geoff. Keep it up :)
Thanks, will do!
Extremely lucid review. I was at work, on a Teams call... my phone open on cricinfo ball by ball.. 2 others at my desk .. watching my phone and then swearing at Bangladesh.. that 9th wicket was the kicker put them right behind. Well DONE Geoff.
There was a lot to talk about!
great job putting the match together Geoff! i think you got Azmatullah's name wrong; but very good still!!
Late and tired and his 3rd podcast of the day!
Man, you can't stop and you won't stop.
3rd podcast of the day
Aust to be morally and politically correct refuse to play any bilateral series against Afghanistan , so in a way , it’s a sweet win for Afghanistan to not only qualify for SF but also knock out Australia.
That'll show them for thinking that women should participate in public
@@FinalWordCricket
Only western countries got the right to mix sports and politics as it’s their right and when they do it, it’s acceptable while non western countries can never do it or wrath of western world will fall in them.
Why don’t you check back who organised all the boycotts of international sports events that has happened and who were the instigators and for what reasons.
Women being able to participate in society is a pretty open and shut moral issue, champion
@@FinalWordCricket
Where was the concern for the plight of Afghan men, women and children when the decision to abandon them to their fate was made?
Isn’t this decision that has made the plight of women there as it is now?
What about the plight of thousands of Afghans who worked for the westerners who were abandoned just like that?
Not one voice for them?
Didn’t they deserve to live?
If you want to talk about rights , then talk about the rights of all Afghans especially those who worked and helped the western countries.
You should be questioning your leaders as troops from UK n Aust too were sent to Afghanistan and were helped by them.
Are you telling the Afghans that by refusing to play bilateral series, you are fighting for their rights to be restored?
Wat a bitter joke for them
What do you want CA to do? Pretend none of it is happening? There are guidelines set out by the ICC, and Afghanistan are breaking them.
I was just left with so many questions after this match. I’ll list a few:
Why in the world would Bangladesh not go all out to qualify for the semis? Even when they were “trying” their efforts were so weak
Why doesn’t Rashid push himself up the order?!
Why didn’t Farroqi or Nabi bowl more?!
The analysts were able to arrive at the 12.1 overs target for Bangladesh. How could there not be a similar figure for Afghanistan? There had to have been a scenario where Afghanistan could still go through with a very close loss.
How was Rashid not the man of the match? I get that Naveen took those wickets at the end but Rashid contributed with bat and ball!!
It's best not to think too hard about it
oof, appreciate the summary in your words. Enthralling game but the frustrations were palpable. This tournament, as exciting as it has been with some of the lower ranked teams winning, has not been a good advertisement for the sport overall. Poor scheduling, inconsistent pitches, inconsistent qualifying rules. The list goes on
Great drama though!
I love this guy I discovered him just now💀
So do we!
Thanks bro for your clear feedback. Keep in touch 😊🎉
You too!
Best thing in the entire game, Rashid Khan’s disapproval at Naib’s apparent cramp, (which shouldn’t be punished because evidence is circumstantial). But you could tell that Rashid Khan wanted to play the full game and defeat them.
Yes, that was heartening. He wanted to win properly
my Asian 2 cents on the 'Gulbadin incident' :
There are a couple of ways of reacting.
1) intuitive / sincere / direct way
2) logical / thought out way
Gulbadin was clearly following 1).
Afghanistan could maybe have switched deep point and deep mid-wicket fielders around and faced none of the verbal backlash. He did the first thing that came to him and tried to be sincere about it. straight out of Wang Yang-ming's School of Intuition where you back 1) irrespective of the results.
to viewers: Would you have rather seen a well thought out delaying strategy instead?
Great analysis
The performances of USA, SA & AFG have redeemed this world cup which I initially thought was going to be a terrible one because of the venue and pitches.
I'd wager that a lot of fans are thinking along the same lines
@@FinalWordCricket I forgot the WI! Shame that they are not in the semis. However can't grudge any of the other teams there (except maybe England)
In another game, the comic run-out possibility created by the Afghan batters would have been a legit highlight, but such was this game that noone even recalls that play at all!
Also, I wish the commentary box had someone from India or Pakistan or elsewhere to balance the narrative of the game from Afghanistan's perspective. It felt like Australia's chances was all that mattered to them the way they commented on the last few overs of the game. Will Bangladesh make it or not, as opposed to will Afghanistan pull it off for a spot in semis.
Barely even made the showreel! What a wild, wild game
Oscar for Gulbadin 🤣🤣
Hahaha
I'm sure BAN fans must be furious with their team's ridiculous approach.
It was.... strange
Afghans rode kangaroo and then they roasted it and ate it...
Very well composed.
Poor Geoff 😢
Toiling away on a cold, dark, boring Caribbean island..
Very low on energy...
3rd podcast of the day, awake 7am, still awake at 2am. Sorry this doesn't meet your criteria
This guy need sleep
Sure does
Australia lost because our selectors were too busy playing favorites instead of picking players based on current form. Warner had ample opportunity to show he had the form for a world cup, and he couldn't do it, yet we still picked him. Too reliant on Head, and of course sloppy fielding to top it all off. Still, Australia have won plenty of CWC's, we can't win them all, I think it does Australia good to lose sometimes, sharpen everyone up again.
Hindsight makes experts out of us all
Suddenly the worldcup became boring when the Australians got knocked out? Stop being salty 😂
eh?
Cheers Geoff. Odd game, but won't matter to the Afghans. There might be a few square riggers knocking about to smuggle you into Guyana in time.
Scream for ice cream - politely ask for gelato - scream for ice cream. Never heard the circle of life described so well.
A very, very, very odd game but incredibly entertaining
Nothing sums up the end of our tournament like a half asleep Geoff doing the podcast by himself in a hotel room in the early hours of the morning.
Hahaha, quite!
You are the person who said on Sky Sports during a program that the ICC should follow the rules and disqualify Afghanistan's men's team because they don't have a women's team. Afghanistan reaching the semifinals is a tight slap on the face for people like you. Hypocrites like you talk about expanding cricket on one hand and on the other hand, talk about removing good teams like Afghanistan.
Please this message forward to sky Sports you tube channel
He is a leftist.... their worldview is f***ed up to say the least
I think it was pretty clear in that interview geoff was explaining the criteria for someone to own a icc membership. It was clear that AFG were not interested in women's cricket. That being said, cricket Australia choosing not to play AFG on a number of occasions in bilateral series however choosing to play AFG in world cups is a bit of a mockery and a cop out. but that's hardly Geoff's fault lol.
Probably worse for the women of Afghanistan who can't partake in normal life, be educated, play sport, work etc
@@FinalWordCricket You should get into the root of it as to why the taliban is behaving the way it is behaving... instead of doing surface level "protest" which wont have any impact on the terrible condition of women in Afghanistan, rather it will have a contrary effect of Afghanistan as a nation getting sidelined by rest of the world for no fault of their own
Chin up, Geoff! Still opportunities left to mock England.
Worst game of cricket ? Mann you are salty 😅
It was very entertaining, but there was a lot of bad cricket in it
@@FinalWordCricket Afg took 10 wickets in cleanest possible fashion and won it fair like they did against Australia.
Batting didn’t happen by most of the teams in this World Cup, still part of the game.
It was one of the greatest game of resilience. Afg played better than Aus and other teams in this World Cup.
It’s sad to see so called analysts are biased and downplaying Afg cricket just to lick their wounds.
Anyways keep calm and watch Afg win this edition. 😂
Boring world cup. Its like anyone doing things we have no seen. Everyone winning ugly. its not even ugly just bad. South africa and afganistan win by default with barest of margin. I think it is going to be india winning the world cup this time around. i want south africa to win but it gona be tough against kuldeep and axar patel
No one is forcing you to watch it kid stop crying 😂😂
What boring this is the best one so far every match is close and those aussie bastards are out wht more can u ask for
If you think this tournament is boring, then you don't like cricket. This has been, by some considerable distance, the best ever World Cup
All work and no play males geoff a (slightly more) dull boy.
Geoff may have snuck in some play every now and then
