Barry Davis was a magnificent contributor to the success of the EFC. His record of achievements speaks for itself. He was also a wonderful person. R.I.P Barry, you will be very, very sadly missed by all of us.

Geoff Gosper, Alex Epis, Jack Clarke, 1965....what a year. Barry Davis was the best drop kicker ever.

Barry was certainly a legend of the game. Played tennis with him at the Essendon Tennis Club regularly and was always a perfect gentleman and a very talented tennis player. 🎾

If anyone is interested to know more about Barry, I HIGHLY recommend the book written by his younger brother Ken Davis. It's called 'Born to Play-the Barry Davis Story.' Terrific reading, with a foreword by Tim Watson. I don't think many realise how outstanding a player AND role model Barry was and remains to AFL football and life.

Essendon was blessed to land John Coleman from Hastings football club. He came in the best year ever in 1949.

I wish he played on one more season (in 1976), whether with North Melbourne or back home to Essendon. With North, he might’ve been the catalyst in them going back to back, that and be a a part of the 300 club.

Essendon had a fairly big batch of decent players who were also decent people back in the 50s, 60s and 70s in Jack Clarke, Hugh Mitchell, Geoff Leek, Ken Fraser and Barry Davis himself.

Not forgetting John Birt. Tremendous calibre men. I remember hearing Ken Fraser & John Birt share their testimonies at Box Hill Baptist Church. I was so impressed with them, and their integrity. The start of my Christian faith and also my passion for the mighty Dons.

Thanks for both doing this great interview, could have watched for hours.
Takes me back to my early days, happily watching the Dons at Windy Hill.
Others have mentioned all those other greats, Clarke, Birt, Capuano, Neagle (maybe a rung below), that super laconic No10, Gary Foulds and others ahead of the great eras beginning in the 80's.
However, No 32 was always my favourite, fast, strong , so skilful and what about those magic drop kicks.
Lovely individual and will remember his great moments at Windy Hill forever.

@@rahulbhatia7798, yes I did actually. If you knew anything about football, you should know he was Runner up twice in the Brownlow medal, & was renowned for his skill & fair play. His record speaks for itself.

I lived a short tram trip from Windy Hill, and my best mate and I went to very game up until the transition to the AFL. We were both devastated when Barry left for North, unaware of the reasons until watching this video, and just how correct his reasoning turned out. Good for him, stuck to principles.
