- Brian Hoey interviews Richard Burton and his wife Elizabeth Taylor on the platform of Cardiff Central railway station.
Burton and Taylor were in the city in January 1965 to watch Wales play England at rugby union on the Saturday.
Burton had been in London for just over a week, filming scenes for The Spy Who Came in From The Cold (Paramount, 1965, based on the novel by John Le Carré) and would travel on to Dublin to continue work on the project. He and Elizabeth Taylor had recently completed The Sandpiper, filmed in California (MGM, 1965).
The interviewer also refers to their 1963 MGM film The V.I.P.s, the first they worked on together after Cleopatra (Twentieth Century-Fox, 1963). Wales would, as Elizabeth hoped, beat England, by 14 points to 3, on their way to the Triple Crown.
As a non-Welsh person who lives in Wales: Love how Elizabeth said at the end "I just hope Wales wins" hahaha
My father is Welsh rugby mad & looks & sounds like Burton.
İkimizde harikasınız Elizabeth &Richard ❤️❤️
coud watch the movies over and over again.i"ts like eating a piece of candy and can"t stop
They had it all . . .
The interviewer is a little lost there lol
Is that Richard's charming sister to the right of Miss Taylor ?
Indeed. That’s “Cis” as he affectionately called her.
If they would have stop answering all the questions from reporters and laid off the booze? They would have stayed married. His last wife, as well as everyone else, that he still loved Elizabeth Taylor and vice versa. He wrote her that letter before his death proclaiming his love for her and wanted to go back home. She was his home.
Absolutely ... agree with you that said ... can only imagine how hard it would be blend such a public life ...with any form of private live ..where does reality-based living come together .. wasn't it always a game of who could top the other ....
Elizabeth was brought up like that, unfortunately. And both has HUGE egos. They wasted too much time.
All a bit sad watching this, they are all long dead. Just shadows of memories remain. I was -2 in 1965, just a tadpole in my father's ball bag.
