      If a publicly traded company opts to outsource overseas to reduce expenses, it should begin by outsourcing the CEO position. By saving millions in this manner, the company can maintain the employment of numerous American workers. These employees, in turn, will contribute to the local economy in various ways.

    It’s just a fact of life that a company will lay off and fire workers that don’t deserve it. We shouldn’t think of the system like it should be perfect this way. They often times need to get rid of people or make mistakes in getting rid of people through no fault of their own. It seems to me like it’s a perception we need to change in our society rather than think the system isn’t being what it should be.

    • @robnelson6545
      @robnelson6545 21 день назад

      @@ThomasTomiczek the recession would be the "need to get rid of people" part. The getting fired is the "no fault of their own" part. Sometimes it though is warranted. As far as customer service and customer relations you are correct, LLM's cannot reason so they're inadequate in those departments. However, as a programmer, I have first hand experienced the power and efficiency AI can lend a development team in expediting projects. What would take months now takes weeks. Iterations done in mere hours. I also think AI in robotics and factory work is going to expand greatly within the next two years. They've already started in China with cell phone manufacturering. They can create a new cell phone every 5 minutes.

    • @ThomasTomiczek
      @ThomasTomiczek 21 день назад +1

      They actually can - the problem here is cost. Not money, time. Anything interactive does not have time to run proper reasoning loops - and even those are problematic NOW, but in research that is quite close to being solved. Multi step reasoning is a lot easier when you can throw 128.000 or more token context on it - but that has a time impact and that is not suitable yet.

    • @LaborGains
      @LaborGains  19 дней назад

      It's definitely useful for companies and helps with efficiency. But I don't think we're a year away from it eliminating everyone's jobs. And I don't believe the investment in AI is why these companies we talk about are having to do layoffs, I still think it's lack of leadership and results. Thanks for the comment.

    • @ThomasTomiczek
      @ThomasTomiczek 19 дней назад

      @@LaborGains Note that when I said cost I do not mean investment - a proper AI agentic loop incurs a high inference cost. Money is one thing - and often warranted - but you can hardly chat interactive when answers take 5 minutes.
      I agree with one year not being in any way realistic, but note how NVidia announced to go for 1000x performance in 5 years. Then quite crazy stuff will happen in real time and with the training getting better and better - not EVERYONE's job, but what do governments do when unemployment is climbing 0.25% per month, with the news being that those jobs never return and people can watch robots doing work?
      The current AI job losses are there - far and between (ask translators, voice actors, graphics designers in some areas - in gaming, i.e., a lot of the background stuff is now ai generated) but it WILL start in 2025 unless we stop with models where we are now.

A lot of times there are smaller companies that they can take their business to. I agree. That's just one reason why I want to leave the U.S., but mostly I just don't like the work-life balance here. As for welfare, I kind of don't know how to feel about that sometimes because there are also people who parasite off of productive taxpayers' money and choose not to work or work very little even though they are capable. Even in America there are people living in Section 8 housing and on welfare who don't work, they just get taken care of by the state.
      Every country has its pros and cons, but one thing I don't like about America is how work is prioritized to the expense of people's lives.
      I'm 27 but I don't think I will be leaving any time soon because my parents are old (they were 50+ years old when they adopted me). I don't think I want to live here for my entire life, but it's hard to know if I'll ever be able to leave.
      I have considered Germany or Austria as options in the future and I don't mind learning German as I already speak three languages anyway, but since I have never even been to those countries, I don't know if I'd even like it there or not. I speak decent Spanish too so Latin America and Spain are also possibilities.
