@Ryan Peters Yeah he won at Daytona in the summer of '01, the first time he raced there since he lost his dad. He finished first and Michael Waltrip was 2nd, so it was the opposite of the Daytona 500. Crazy how things turn out sometimes 😊
Knowing what we know now about Dale Jr. and his concussions, seeing him wave over the safety team and then point to his head at 2:06:54 is so saddening.
Unfortunately back in the early 2000s head injuries and concussions were not taken as seriously as they should have been. Even in 2002 the top racers were expected to 'toughen up' and race through it.
As a dale jr fan I can tell you this........you can try and pull for another driver......but it never feels like it will with Jimmie....and as the years go on without em you will just get more uninterested in it cause you just can't put your heart behind someone else like you did the champ
Sterling Marlin's paint scheme was pretty nice for this race. He started 25th but was in the Top 5 after 75 laps, a typical day for him that year. He suffered some damage later in the race but managed to finish inside the Top 10.
I was there as a 7 year old boy, rooting for Bobby Labonte and my new favorite Matt Kenseth. Was bummed to see some new guy win at the time, but man did I take it for granted! Wish I knew what was going on back then!!
I was there! Cool memories, had no idea Dale sustained minor injuries in that crash. Cool upload, it was cool to relieve this memory from when I was 9.

Larry McReynolds said the smartest things I've heard one of these commentators say in a long time. "I don't like making the car turn with all front downforce and no chassis, bc when you get in traffic the car will get tight or not turn." WHICH IS THE PROBLEM NOW. These teams make car turn with only front downforce now. Everybody has complained about the Gen 6 car. It has nothing to do with the car, it's the teams and crew chiefs. They set these cars up to run all by themselves. Everybody complains about the cup series possibly becoming an Iroc series. If they use the chassis to make the car turn more than using only front downforce, I say bring on the Iroc style racing. Another way to get these teams to get away from building cars around aero dynamics, is being back the bias ply tire. The best racing in NASCAR history happened on the bias ply tire and not the radials radials are great for f1 and Indy. But NASCAR needs the bias ply in my opinion. Now I'm a huge Harvick fan, any I have been since Rockingham 2001, but he made a big mistake coming off turn 4 when he got into Jrs right rear. And that was and still is a rare thing to see Harvick make a mistake, especially one that big. Also, everyone wonders why we don't see engine failures anymore. Bc of the NASCAR gear rule which is bull crap, bc they made the rule to save the small teams money. But now that basically 4 companies supply engines to all the cup teams, let them turn as many RPMS as they want to. Let them go back to turn 9,500 to 10,000 rpm, and bring back these 500 mile races at these tracks where the rpm just hangs there at 9,500 from the start finish line until they lift.
Unfortunately this was one of Dale Jr's 6 concussions. 2017 decided to retire but rookie Jimmie Johnson got his first career win and 18 years later retires as the greatest driver of all time (my opinion).
Really miss this kind of racing said that Jimmy Johnson's retiring but he's had a long successful career I just really wish NASCAR would really give us what we want what we've been screaming at them that we want which is North Wilkesboro back and Rockingham back I don't understand why they won't do it it's right in front of their face but no they want to just make new cars that are run off of batteries if I want to watch cars that are run off of batteries I'll go to Walmart and buy a remote control Tonka truck
Nascar Winston cup was the best until it wasn't Winston cup anymore Nascar is not the same what it used to be but I still watch Nascar every year plus I remember this race
The day the 48 dynasty was born. The fight for number 8 begins in 61 days.
@Elon Musk The fight for better luck begins in 61 days
*the fight for +20th place begins in 61 days
That would be a swan song I'll be honest
it was sold out to see their favorite so Cal driver. Hard to see Fotana full.
So much for #8
Hearing Dale Jr. crying for help like that over the radio... that’s scary stuff, man.
Sad to think that , this might have been the first of his concussions.
@Ryan Peters Yeah he won at Daytona in the summer of '01, the first time he raced there since he lost his dad. He finished first and Michael Waltrip was 2nd, so it was the opposite of the Daytona 500. Crazy how things turn out sometimes 😊
I guess Im kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to stream new series online?
@River Memphis flixportal
@Brantley Orlando thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it !!
I’m so glad NASCAR has started uploading classic races as well!
Damn right, bro!
I Love Classic NASCAR

Matthew Onica the day he changed :(
Unfortunately back in the early 2000s head injuries and concussions were not taken as seriously as they should have been. Even in 2002 the top racers were expected to 'toughen up' and race through it.
Crazy! Run into by his dads former car and hits the wall hard in somewhat the same angle as the fatal Daytona crash
Well When You Hit The Wall Your Brain Would Get Knocked Around
@@gnnascarfan2410It wasn’t until the Kansas race later that year when he finally admitted to being concussed.
Great to see these full races being uploaded! Also kinda freaky radio communication by Dale Jr at 2:05:45
Finally, the one I was waiting for! Still don't know what to think about 2020 being JJ's last season...
As a dale jr fan I can tell you this........you can try and pull for another driver......but it never feels like it will with Jimmie....and as the years go on without em you will just get more uninterested in it cause you just can't put your heart behind someone else like you did the champ
He just ran the 2023 Daytona 500 last week so he’s not quite done yet
What a nostalgia trip. This was the first full season of NASCAR that I'd ever watched. Miss these cars and paint schemes so damn much.
I agree!!!
keep the full races coming NASCAR
Great upload. Thanks NASCAR.
It's crazy to know that my hometown was visited by NASCAR legends. And seeing those mountains from the past Is insane really
The Beginning of a Dynasty came here
Thank you NASCAR for this high quality upload, I hope there are more races coming from the gen 4 era to get us through the off season!
Geez, that radio call by Dale Jr is bone tickling, when I heard it my body turned cold.
Back when Goodyear actually laid down rubber.
Back when Goodyear actually knew what it was doing.
the package has caused them to bring rocks to the track every week
Jimmie was so good from the beginning of his career. Led points at one point in season and finished 5th overall as a rookie
Thank you very much for the upload... this is great... keep these classics coming please!
Yes! Thank you NASCAR! Please upload more of these...
And thus, one of the most memorable legendary dynasties began :)
First!
NASCAR second
Third i guess
Fifth
6th
Seventh

April 28 2002 he got his first win. Which I just turned 13 that day
This marked Johnson's 1st official victory!
I was there as a 7 year old boy, rooting for Bobby Labonte and my new favorite Matt Kenseth. Was bummed to see some new guy win at the time, but man did I take it for granted! Wish I knew what was going on back then!!
These races are so awesome to watch thank you nascar!
Still to this day watching Jrs hit makes my head hurt.
I miss these cars
I was there! Cool memories, had no idea Dale sustained minor injuries in that crash. Cool upload, it was cool to relieve this memory from when I was 9.
The beginning of a champion
Can we please get dale Jrs first win and his old man's last win in full races???? Like this post if you agree
Yeah dale jr is the most popular driver (shared by bill elliot) and he need a full race of his last win or his first win
Dale Sr's final win at Talladega is all over youtube. Go find it.
Instead I think we should get Dale Sr’s first win
@@burlingtonfan7492 1979 Bristol....there's bits and pieces of it but the whole race was not filmed in those days just select events
It's on RUclips
The first of 83 NASCAR Cup Series wins for Jimmie Johnson.
It's so cool to see these old paint schemes
It’s one hell of time to watch a classic race with modern RUclips ads.
Dale Jr's radio saying "help me" is freaky stuff
Listening to Jr call for help after that crash was scary shit.
That Global Vote car that Schrader was driving musta been cursed. He had a problem in the first 20 laps every time he ran that paint scheme.

Nice Work Carl Johnson
People say NASCAR doesn't fill seats the way they used to coming from the same people that don't fill the seats
so many good feels in victory lane. good times
Little did we know what he would accomplish 22 years later
"Guess we hired the right guy" Jeff Gordon was so lucky got his teammate. Now, Jimmie's a 7-time champion. I miss their good old days
20 years ago today!
The old catch can days lol
Looking back, The beginning of JJs carrer was the same day JRs career suffered the beginning of its end

Wish jj retired on top instead of a mid pack driver
12 cars on the lead lap at the end of that long run!!
we need the gen 4 back! look at it, they are packed!
i heared that the new gen will be more based on Gen 4 than COT and Gen 6
That was a scary thing for Junior man
24:23 Mikey beats off on pit road.
Matt said gets beat off of pit road big time.
I see the metrolinks in background
This race where Little E which people dubbed him that name back then suffered a terrible crash and hearing his radio was scary.
Good days of NASCAR
Greg Biffle’s Cup Series debut.
He had first attempted to make his Cup debut at the Daytona 500 earlier that same year, but failed to qualify.
Dylan Hills I know
Look at those stands then vs now. Holy crap, has NASCAR taken a nosedive
My favorite driver
The infamous Dale Jr. Concussion race
i was at this race!!
Can we make requests? Dale Jarrett's final win in HD anyone?
SlideJob!SlideJob! How about all the NASCAR races from 2005 in 16:9 HD? 2005 was the first full season that every NASCAR race was broadcasted in HD.

No he wasn’t
I like KTTV.
the real question is: where are all these people now ? 👀
and i was a year old at this time
Dead, or found better ways to spend their Sundays.
We left when they started worrying about entertainment and TV ratings and not competition.
48 was legend and the only hendrick driver to entertain me and. Chase Elliott
Woo hooo
2000s NASCAR stinks! Bring back the 1990s. Thats the best era of NASCAR and always will be. RIP NASCAR
1992 - 2007, the best era in NASCAR
Why you put spoiler in the title and thumbnail?
Kurt busch should of won this
Yessss : D
So Kyle Busch or MTJ or Bowyer's first win next?
Look at all those people in the stands. Looks almost fake.
Oh boy a we got a conspiracy theorist
Please, first win Joey Logano in NASCAR
João Pedro why do you want to see a rain shortened race?
Cheater!!!!
