      Really waited for the Owala video, watching every week if for owala’s turn. Sadly, the video is too negative and it seems that it more of a generalization of the water bottle trends, RATHER than discussing what OWALA is about specifically, and what is the actual feedback of its users. Video is more trivial than actual experience.
      Was not really sold with other bottle trend, until the FREESIP technology of owala. Because, as I watched multiple videos abt the tech, common denominator is that FREESIP encourages you to drink water.
      AND IT REALLY DOES. It really makes you a PERSON THAT DRINKS WATER MORE. Yeah it is weird, but it is the technology and efficiency. I hope that you buy yourself and try and make your own opinion on it, rather than having a prejudice towards a new water bottle technology. It will make your videos better and more reliable.
      Regarding the cleanliness of OWALA bottles, another feature of owala bottles is the EASE of cleaning, you can actully dismantle all the parts of owala so you can thoroughly clean it. There are actual cleaning tutorials on each type of owala design. It is another sellin point for me.
      I am really hoping that you can try it for yourself and have a follow up video or at least a response on this comment.

      Try actually reading the comments on this videos from actual owner and users of the OWALA. Most sounds very positive. I really hope that you will buy one and try for yourself before dissing it on a video to avoid such prejudice against anew trendy water bottle. I believe this channel has already built some name for itself, and could do some due diligence on reporting such.

      It is really damaging to the brand, especially if the brand promises were true and great.
      You only comment abt the parent company, the marketing, the website but not on the actual bottle, its technology and its effectivity. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
      Try it first before making another video.
      Great power comes with great responsibility.

      OK, I was going to buy one of these, Not looking to start a collection, I just happen to need a water bottle and these have a good looking feature set... If this sucks, and every other water bottle also sucks, can you suggest one that doesn't?

    • @fuzziestlumpkin
      @fuzziestlumpkin 2 месяца назад

      @@HarrisburgShopping I'm not literally looking for a suggestion... I was making a point. That point being that offering criticism without offering any suggestions on how to solve the problem is at best reductive and at worst a much bigger social problem than people owning too many water bottles will ever be. OK, "reusable" water bottles are a problem... We established this 3 videos ago... At this point it feels like we're veering quite far from astute social commentary and a little bit far into a smug superiority complex.
      But I do apologise for trying to be nuanced in a text format. It doesn't necessarily come across, and I should know better by now.

    My wife is a nurse, and about a year ago she said all the nurses were using these because the part you drink from is covered from the air and you can open the bottle without touching the mouthpiece. Makes total sense from a sanitation perspective. She also said the bottle will be the next trend because nurses are trend-forecasters and I’m so sad to see she was right

      exactly why i got mine. i looked around different brands and my requirements were 1) covered spout, 2) one-handed opening, and 3) (kinda negotiable) a straw function. this is the only one i saw that fit all three perfectly. i know the insulation is not perfect, the lid doesn't insulate as much as i would like, but tbh i don't really mind drinking room temp water. so for me, it's the perfect water bottle.

    I totally get the rage against this bottle trend, but I received an Owala as a gift and I genuinely like it. Would I have bought one for myself? No. My Yeti mug still works just fine ten years on, but I do appreciate the Owala’s tight seal, the straw thingy, and the carrying handle. It makes it easier to tote it around if your hands are full. It also fits in the bottle cages on my bike, and it keeps cold temps really well (hot temps not so much, but w/e). Also, the mold thing isn’t an issue if you’re not a moron. Idk, compared to the Stanley and the many trendy bottles of yore, the Owala is very functional even if they’re trying to market it in the same annoying way.

    • @romxxii
      @romxxii Месяц назад +10

      Yeah, I'm with you. Like, I find the marketing silly, but people getting mad at other people buying multiples of a cheap, functional product is even sillier. It's misplaced anger that is better directed elsewhere, like at the fancy watch aftermarket or companies like Supreme that use hypebeast mentality to artificially jack up their prices. You're mad at rampant consumerism? talk about people who sell Rolexes at over 100% the retail price, not a water bottle company that sells $40 bottles in different colors.

    • @IAmPlaysWithSquirrel
      @IAmPlaysWithSquirrel Месяц назад +8

      @@romxxii lmao what a dumb take. Rolexes are investment pieces that increase in value as they age, so of course it makes sense to sell them at a higher price than what you originally bought them for considering the craftsmanship that goes in them. Water bottles are meant to replace single use plastic bottles so that you reduce your impact on the environment, which means that buying dozens of them because you gotta have all the latest colors completely defeats that purpose.
      Unlike high end watches, they’re not products that can be passed down and resold for generations. Rolex doesn’t even come close to producing enough watches to meet the demand, which means they’re more environmentally friendly than these water bottle companies who exploit consumerism to their advantage and create a bunch of products that will be sitting in a landfill in no time.

    • @romxxii
      @romxxii Месяц назад +2

      @@IAmPlaysWithSquirrel what an absolute moron. First off, there's no logic why a watch should cost more than sticker price just because some dope bought it before I did. That's just scalping. No different from people who resell concert tickets or Jordans at two-five times the price. Just vulture behavior.
      Second, what makes you think these flasks will degrade faster than a watch? They're both made of metal. If anything, the metal water bottle is designed to take the kind of beating that you just can't put your watch through.
      Third, your phone tells time better than any mechanical automatic watch. There's literally no point than to flaunt wealth. Just get a diamond bracelet, it's more honest.

    • @IAmPlaysWithSquirrel
      @IAmPlaysWithSquirrel Месяц назад +7

      @@romxxii your opinion on the usefulness of luxury watches is irrelevant. The fact is they’re built to last, they can be serviced and they’re intended to be heirloom pieces which means their value will increase as they age. Plenty of people own Rolex watches that are 50+ years old that were either passed down to them by their relatives or they invested in vintage pieces that will be even more valuable should they decide to sell it. No different than an expensive diamond bracelet (since, y’know, watches are jewelry. I guess you fail to understand that).
      No one is going to care about owning a 50 year old water bottle and most people will not hold on to them for anywhere near that long. Once the trend passes, they’ll get rid of them and move on to the next thing.

    • @romxxii
      @romxxii Месяц назад +2

      @@IAmPlaysWithSquirrel keep convincing yourself, if that's what you need to justify buying what is essentially an overpriced bracelet that does 10% of my phone's job less accurately. Why does it need to mean something about me? Of course it's gonna get banged up and scuffed (sorry *patina* for a more PR friendly term) if it stops doing it's job of containing water at a cooler temperature for at least the 3-4 hours it takes me to get to and from the courts, I'll buy another one that is insulated enough and no more than 15-20USD, which is what the bottle cost my wife back in the day (she kind of apologized getting me the trendy one so that's why she justified it to me lol, which she didn't since I didn't know about the brand before that...and frankly since then, until this video). I have a big simple gray Stanley for home (I’m not fucking walking with a massive Stanley on the street) and Swell with cute polka dots that I basically got before I even knew the brand. I just found it cute. And a hydroflask for coffee.
      You fucking bet all of them are covered in dents, scratches, stickers, and all else. And I love it. It feels weird to see a water bottle collection and have it revered like iconography 💀💀💀

    • @ku8721
      @ku8721 2 месяца назад +7

      I partly disagree. It really depends on why you're buying the water bottle. And any device or machine you use all the time will need maintenance and will show wear. Even a simple bottle like this needs it or it will grow mold.
      Others, like some of the people shown in this video are flat-out collecting them. Much like a guy who collects cars the they don't plan on using them much if at all. Heck the guy who owns the world's largest Monopoly collection doesn't even like the game! And to those people (who are also the ones willing to pay a huge premium) those scratches, dents and stickers drastically affect the value.
      Me I only collect money and troubles. Funny as neither take up too much space but if I collect more of one I seem to have less of the other!

      The fact is that we work the whole day and week, get home so tired and/or exhausted, spend many hours of the weekend on chores to keep the apartment habitable, ourselves able to get back to work in time by Monday morning that... it seems the only way we have to enjoy our money and home is acquiring and collecting cool stuff. Things that are never, very little or will not at all be used, and we know that.
      We could, maybe, invest more, earn less or do less (out of work hours), but it is now impossible to work less, even if taking a little less responsibility (and a huge cut in payment). We don't earn enough to be able to be, or to do, we can only have.

I have sinus issues and can’t always use a straw even though I prefer it. This bottle really answered that issue for me so I adore it. I also like that it’s actually waterproof so I can keep it in my bag. They may have been built differently because it has no dents or marks still and I take it everywhere. I had no idea the seal part can be removed to clean out but I just checked mine and there wasn’t visible mold after all these years. I didn’t know they did all *that* on their website but I will say, I love this bottle because it’s really good at its simple purpose.

    This one is interesting to me, because I got an Owala very early on before it was a trend. I liked the convenience of the straw, and i never had any issues with it. I bought a large one to use at home, and a small one for work and travel. Ive dropped the small one a million times and never saw any major dents on the bottom. Even the downside of the mold forming on the gasket was a plus for me because it was in such a visible place, it forced me to make a habit of cleaning my bottle regularly (which i had been bad at doing with previous bottles).
    The strange thing was seeing it slowly become a trend. I never understood the Stanley trend (having a big straw out the middle makes it hard to pack after all), but with the genuine convenience of this one...I kind of get it? But like, you still really don't need more than 1-3 depending on purpose.
    tl;dr: i feel like the issue is more on consumerism than the bottle itself on this one.

    I just looked at the America’s test kitchen review of the bottle, and they actually say the opposite of just about everything that you say here. The lid actually can go in the dishwasher, so that would take care of the mold issue that you discussed. They said the straw is slightly hard to clean, but in the drop tested actually performed the best of the stainless steel models that they reviewed.

    I bought an owala before they started blowing up and I disagree that they're not a good bottle- every water bottle I've ever had has gotten beat up after enough drops (and I drop mine a lot), and I have no issues avoiding mold by washing it once a week and pulling out the straw and silicone part in the cap to clean as well. For me it really ticks all the boxes of what I want in a water bottle- insulated, stainless steel, chug cap, cap lock, and easy to clean on the inside, and I plan to use mine for a long time. I don't disagree that the branding is problematic, though.

      I got one after seeing my brother get one as a gift from work. Never heard of the brand and couldn't care any less for the colors (got a plain white one) but the whole freesip thing was super convenient. I commute to work so I needed something i can just have inside my bag without having an exposed straw or something that will spill inside my bag. The part where i get to sip on it as if it had a straw on top of that was really nice. It also seems to give you a lot more water for less effort when sipping (I'm guessing it's because of the big opening allowing better airflow instead of it being mostly sealed).

    Haha ok, I agree they should be more indestructible. We’ve had the same 4 owalas for 4 years, each being washed twice a week in the dishwasher (though they say you aren’t supposed to do that), and besides the dings on the bottom and discoloring of the purple one from the dishwasher, I think they’re great. We got them years ago as we work in hospitals and wanted a water bottle that had a straw type lid that was easily covered because, well hospitals are gross and COVID. I’ve never had a Stanley or hydroflask or any other fancy water bottle, but I will absolutely repurchase these bottles when the time comes.

However due to the trend of water bottles products I liked not longer is as good. The one example I have is the Walmart brand vacuum bottle which when I first bought it nearly 10 years ago it had a hard handle yet when I needed to buy a new one it has a cheep rubber handle that always becomes undone when I try to hang it off my backpack. Another one ended up being discontinued.

It must be stainless steel with decent insulation and I must be able to access the entire lid and remove the seal for cleaning. Single piece screw in lids for me. Straws, flipy lids and all that bs just make it harder to keep sanitary.

    As someone who uses a waterbottle every day the worst part of these trends is how hard it is to find good simple water bottles. Either they make the water taste horrible, are difficult as heck to clean, break easily, and or are way to expensive for what I need. (I go through a bottle on average every 3-4 months, either dropping it off the truck or something else similar breaking them).
    All i want is a cheap (sub 30$) plastic waterbottle with no straw, that's clear, and has a cloth removable thermal cover for the hottest days of summer and coldest days of winter. I found this bottle, but it took way to long to find, and I worry that the next time I need a new one it won't be there if the company goes to chase trends...
