  • In this animated historical documentary video, we will cover the battles of Breadfield (Câmpul Pâinii 1479), Krbava (1493), Chaldiran (1514) and the siege of Otranto (1480), as the Ottoman Wars both in Europe and Asia are ramping up, this time against Hungary, Croatia, Naples and the Safavids of Ismail I.
Previously in our animated historical documentary series on the Ottoman Wars, we have covered the battles of Kosovo (bit.ly/2JI3F0p), Nicopolis (bit.ly/2zUNRre), Ankara (bit.ly/2uW7r0D), Varna (bit.ly/2JIK2VG), Second Kosovo, Constantinople (bit.ly/2uELWlI), Belgrade, Targoviste and Otlukbeli (bit.ly/2JOBlcQ), Vaslui, Valea Alba (bit.ly/2C9Cm0l) and Skanderbeg's rebellion (bit.ly/2BYMYgW). But the Ottomans continued their expansion in the next decades.

    0. Slight mistake with Chaldiran - should be further to the Northeast.
    1. Let's talk about Iran. A few of our viewers expressed their concerns that we only portray the losses of this culture. Although it is true, it is not deliberate. If you know the history of Iran, you know that there are many great victories there, yet, details of many of these victories are lost. Ismail I is a good example - he was probably the most important historical figure in Iran since Cyrus and we know that he won at least 4 massive battles, while being outnumbered 2 and 3 to 1, against the Akkoyunlu, Shaybanids, and Shirvanshahs, yet the only detailed battle of his career is Chaldiran. In any case, we will rectify this situation down the line, as the battles of Nader Shah will be covered within this series in 2019.
    2. We don't care about the ethnicities of the historical figures. Ismail, for instance, had Turkic, Greek and Georgian heritage, but that doesn't matter. He considered himself the Shahanshah of Iran, and so he should be accepted as such. The easiest example is the British royal dynasty. While they are of the German descent, they are British.
    3. Breadfield has a different depiction in some of the sources, as they claim that the Hungarians stacked their center and that allowed them to break the Ottoman center. When the sources are conflicted like that, you often need to use logic and common sense. In this case - we know that the Ottomans stopped raiding Transylvania for a few decades, as they lost most of their border troops in the area. But if their loss came due to the fact that their center was smashed, then their wings would have been able to retreat with a relative ease, and they had the akinjis (light raiders) on the wings. Again, that doesn't mean that the other source is invalid.
    4. If you have extra income, 1$ a month on Patreon (www.patreon.com/kingsandgenerals) would help us immensely - we have many plans and every little bit helps. If you don't want to have a recurring payment, Paypal is an option - www.paypal.me/kingsandgenerals In any case, we appreciate your support, thank you!

Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire. You are a fire as well, and as long as you burn you are still here. Nobody can give you more death than what you've been told to prepare for in your life. Nothing in this world can impact you more than you've already been. Stare it in the face, you are the fire and you still have shit to burn. (these videos lol)

    • @costas1032

@Bingo Duff it's simple , the Islamic caliphate or state or whatever you want to name it spread through war and conquest but Islam itself as riligon spread through many ways like trade , enter marriage , forced conversion was very rare and it was never a state policy for any Islamic state , for example the Levant didn't become majority muslim until the 12th century, Persia didn't become majority muslim until 3 centuries after the arab conquest.
the myth of forced conversion is a load of crap that's being spread by crazy right wingers and white nationalists using outdated sources written by orintalists with a superiority complex during the colonial era .
by the way comparing muslim conquest with colonialism is dumb and using what happend in otranto to bash Islam is even dumber .
It's usually the one how acuses all those how disagree with him of being racist is the racist himself .
you should relax dude and get educated by searching through unbiased work done by actual historians not bigoted right wingers with zero qualification on the subject but their own biased view

my country witnessed both the French colonialism that killed 8 million of my people and sacked thousands of villages during the span of 130 years no conquering nation in the history of north Africa did that much damage , and after the independence we wher filled by socialists who bankrupted us and and caused a 10 years civil war that claimed the life of 250000 people because they didn't like it when islamist won the elections (so much for the so called democracy) .
European colonialism is thing and it happend and caused a lot of damage and pointing it out is not racism and you are right every nation committed atrocities but the europeans took it to a hole New level.

    • @costas1032
      @costas1032 3 года назад +5

@Bingo Duff my ancestors enslaved 1.5 million from the 16th to the 18th century while the frensh killed 8 millions of us how morally bankrupted to compare the enslavement of less then 2 millions to what can be considered a genocide that claimed the life of 8 million people, by the way when the French conquered Algeria the piracy was already stoped since it started to decline in the early 19th century and our naval fleet was already destroyed in the battle navarino 1827 which means the barbary states wher not a threat anymore .
as for the American slaves , the Mediterranean at that time was under our control and the refused to pay the trebuitte for passage so they got what was coming to them , by the didn't the Americans defeat us in 1815 which means we are even .
by the way you have to work on better ways to justify genocide .

And they werent all had to become soldiers. They were selected considering their abilities. Like the strong big children were soldiers where as the smart ones were selected in the higher ranks. They were taught everything like Turkish , Islam and other things. They only couldnt be one thing and that was the sultan. They could of even became the vezir as there was. Must say as these boys were "yeniçeri" and they were the closest to the sultan and they all loved the sultan so even if they were slaves they could of easily killed the sultan and smash the empire.

And it's not like the Ottomans were anything new: the disastrous performance of the Polish and Hungarian armies against the Mongols several centuries prior was primarily due to the former's "Do you want to live forever? CHAAAAARGE!" attitude. Had anyone just calmed the fuck down and analyzed the enemy's tactic to learn how to counteract it, hundreds of thousands of lives would have been saved.

Great Video as usual 😊. here are some notes about the battle of Çaldıran:
    - it is really hard to find numbers of the troops because the sources are confusing and sometimes the numbers are fantastic. but the similarities are the composition of the army. the safavid's have cavalry and the ottoman's 60 to 70 cavalry and the rest infantry and artillery.
    - şah ismail and selim are both underrated military commanders
    - you never told that the ottomans use war wagons very since 1448 by the battle of Kosovo until the early 1600s. And selim revolutionized the top arabacılar (artillery transport and war wagons) corps by mixing artillery and war wagons in the center in front of the janissaries and behind he azab screen with cavalry flanks.
    but that's it.
Krep doing your great work, and I also love the mongol and the napoleonic series.
