The mountain area of western lustria is big and there's lots of place for expansion as well as enemy diversity with skaven, high and dark elves, lizardmen, Tomb Kings, Empire, and even vampire coast
And this is only the second to last update, there’s a pre order for wh3 that will introduce neferata as a ll in all likelyhood and give us either chorfs or ogres or dogs of war as a new faction

Dwarves are probably my favourite race and I've always wanted to have start positions in Lustria and the Southlands and they are both here now, love it!
Thorek looks to be a lot of fun and I'm thankful for him as well as the update to the Dawi in general. I hope we see Grimm Burloksson and Josef Bugman someday.
Thorek Ironbrow is definetively right for me! The only Vortex campaign I've finished is Mazdamundi. I tought the Huntsmarshal might be fun too, but I don't like fighting Lizardmen. I've waited years for the dwarfs to be playable in the Vortex tough, and Ironbrow will probably be the second and last Vortex campaign I finish, everything else is Mortal Empires.
Honestly same, i cant be bothered to play dwarfs anymore because im tired of dealing with greenskin tide for 100+ turns before i do something else this is very refreshing!

I was watching legend of Total war play the beastman this morning and now watching your video I've concluded that this is by far the best update we've ever had. Thanks for the vids Sparty.
Man this is nearly everything I was hoping it would be. The new Rune Forging is spot on and the changes to Rune Magic is FANTASTIC. I only wish we'd gotten Rune Golems and Runic Guardians too. But its FLC and it bring the Dawi back into the top tier for me ahead of WH3. Awesome video!!!
They needed to polish off the dwarves roster before WH3. And since that could only do one WH1 faction that had to go with a newer race like lizard men. Rolling out another dwarf free LC with the upgraded beastmen is perfect. Good rounding off of everyone before the new title. Also wanted to point out that dwarves are probably the least re worked faction in the game. Meaning they are one of the best by themselves and don’t need no gimmick lol
I agree that dwarfs are super solid, probably more than any other race. The growth changes over the last few updates have really hurt them, though so I think this update is quite necessary. Warhammer dwarfs aren’t spelled with a v, btw. It’s a weird distinction but it exists.
Sparty great video as always! Now that we can pretty much guess what will be the last game 2 update, with all the new mechanics, the pre order content should very be a Ogre Kingdoms (as much as it pains me to not see the Dawi Zharr) with the Ogre Mercenaries to kinda "pre test" the race with the community to see how that kind of units go on battlefield and how it can change a battle
6:20 That only brings AP missile damage to 10 on Quarrellers, meaning that you will still need thunderers against enemies like Black Orcs, Chaos, Empire, Bretonnia, TK Constructs, HE, DE, and dinos.
One of the dwarves unique mechanics was not having access to magic and now they have access to 'magic' and use the winds of magic, think that was a bad move. Should have added more runes but kept them as activatable abilities to keep the non-magic theme. EDIT: Still amazing for a FLC in ADDITION to Ogre Mercenaries.
The new Wrath&Ruin kind of worries me. Granted, it's on a long cooldown, but it's still essentially the equivalent of a bound damaging spell effect with unlimited uses, something CA has been very careful with in the past.
It has a 2 to 3 minutes cd and also locks your other runes for 60s on cast. I think that is more than enough restrictions to keep it balanced. In campaign it may get bonkers in the lategame with Thorek, but that is true for all casters.
Just a quick correction, the Ancestral bloods were already in the game before this update. Nice vid anyway, keep up the good work. Looking forward to playing as Thorek!
On the one hand, I prefer dwarf stuff that moves in the direction of new-fangled engineering, rather than away from it. On the other hand, the guy that hates engineering is a FLC and not a full-featured DLC, so that means some day in the far future when dwarves get a paid lord pack, it'll probably be my treasured engineers. Happy either way, love the dawi.
Honestly if you can bum rush that greenskin faction out of there ASAP he's not too bad after that. Swarm with numbers and abuse Queek as a duelist, he is able to quickly snowball from there. I normally rush some rat ogres or weapon teams right after pushing that Greenskin out. Then you go and crush the dwarf to the south right after. Will be a little harder with it being a LL now, but still doable. Once you have control of the Southern part of the Mountains though, Queek can steamroll pretty quick. Especially now with all of the weapons teams, monsters and all that shit. Before Ikit and Throt were out, the first time i did Queek's Campaign in ME I rode on Clanrats and Rat ogre cycle charges for most of the early to mid game. Maybe a few warpfire throwers and plagueclaw catapults once I could recruit them. Now you can bum rush rattling gunners and laugh at anyone that dares approach the Headtaker. Then once you can start getting Stormvermin, you fuckin win, put a line of like 8 of em in his army, back em up with any ranged or monsters of your choosing and send Queek straight after their lord every time. I'll take his start over Skarsnik's any day lol. I love both of those lords... But man the Eight peaks shit and no orcs kills me, gotta micro those squig hoppers and goblin units like crazy.
Also when it comes to AI I highly recommend raiding with one lord filled with Skavenslaves and then have Queek in Ambush right in front or next to them. Can bait out the Dwarves pretty well that way.
I was loving the video until halfway through when Sparty couldn't pronounce Valaya correctly :P A little disappointed the dawi get no new units it sounds like. With the building tree you show, there are zero T5 units on the roster.
I think the most silly thing about this dwarf update is that Slayers are basically expendable now... they shall die valiantly and en masse amidst exploding and homing artillery fire!
Wait, why does the grudgethrower get AL homing projectiles and the bolt thrower explosive shot from proven tools? Wouldn't it make far more sense the other way around, given that the latter fires directly and the former at a arc? Also, why no ME start in Karak Azul with things stacked in a way to incentivise rushing for Karak Zorn asap?

Dwarfs are like the only race who can thrive in lustria because of their high armor piercing and underway access. Too bad I’d never play a game mode that wouldn’t let me confederate the other dwarf legendary lords
Yes! The runes are crafted in stacks of three for the exception of the master runes. So once you make them, that's all you can have unless you get more through other means
@ItalianSpartacus So what exactly is the point now of haveing both Beastmen DLC ? With the WE DLC we got really nice stuff for owning both DLC. And i was pretty happy how they did the whole DLC for DLC thing. But now im a bit confused. If it is the Dwarf stuff im gonna be a bit disappointed ngl.

I like that we get both a playable Spine of Sotek and Southern World's Edge Mountain starting positions based on whether you go for Vortex or ME

Did you spot any new Landmarks for the dwarfs? Maybe the Zhufbar foundries for example?
I didn't but I wasn't looking and am not aware of the old ones to be able to tell the difference :(

Does the Black Pyramid Vault landmark still give Winds of Magic reserve to Dwarfs? If it does it's likely every landmark for Dawi would be unchanged.

@@italianspartacus not sure what you mean by that, I was just talking about how you wanna introduce "the new darf mechanics" at around 4:35, but you actually start talking about the new skill tree by saying "so now that we talked about the new dwarf mechanics", but the actual new mechanics section starts after the skill tree section in the video
