Great video! Started this series via audio book a few weeks ago and just started book 5. I think the magic system is brilliantly explained, even though Jason often explains how things work by saying "because magic" to other cast members I think as a reader (listener) you can really understand how and why the magic works which is great.
@@connorbampton1919 completely agree! Love the first arc with the expansion of the system, and the third arc (that you are in) has some cool features with the limitations placed. You will like the third arc I bet. I hope to do arc discussion videos at some point!
@@RickGrundy completely agree! It is very immersive, and books 7-10 do great expansive building. I’m gonna do a comparison video soon about HWFWM and Dungeon Crawler Carl
Dungeon Crawler Carl is my personal favorite of this genre, couldn’t more highly recommend. The voice of the audiobook reader is awesome. Book is totally nuts, but in the best way.
I started this series when it first released on audible, I was a bit hesitant at the start and I didn’t think it would be good by the title, then I read some of the negative reviews and there where a lot of them, but I decided to give it a spin and it has become my favourite book series of all time!! The 11th book even came out on my birthday!!!
@@RowanPFC yeah, I was hesitant as well and then tried the sample on Audible. I was intrigued and got the first one, and have now read them all multiple times. It has its issues but is really good!
Thank you for covering this series. I've read most of the series and enjoyed it a lot. One minor correction -- while HWFWM is both litRPG and an isekai, they are not the same thing. Isekai is a Japanese word meaning "other world". Stories that use the concept involve a character from one world ending up in another. Classic examples from English literature are _Alice in Wonderland_ and _A Connectocut Yankee in King Arthur's Court._ Note that neither is litRPG. That classification is pretty much as you described, a story built around role playing game mechanics. Neither needs to include the other.
@@r0kus got it! Thank you for the clarification! That makes perfect sense! As my first litRPG I can see where I mixed that up. What has been your favorite arc of the series?! My favorite is probably still the first arc of the first three books…
@@thesandersreview I don't know that I have a favorite arc. I was really impressed by the transitions between the arc of the first three books and the next three. It made the story so much bigger. I actually read (not listened to) the books on my Kindle. I'm kind of jealous that you had the audio experience. I did, however listen to the _Dungeon Crawler Carl_ series in audio form, and if you decide to check that out, audio is absolutely the way to go.
Hey man thanks for the review i will have to try audiobook! From what i heard in this video i think you would like The Beginning After The End, give it a try its one of my favourites and its narrator is Travis Baldree.
Welcome to the fan base! HWFWM is incredible. If you haven't read Cradle I highly recommend it. It has a lot of similarities but its different enough to be just as unique. For me its not as good but almost.
@thesandersreview Cradle is definitely worth your time. It's finished with 12 books. They are much shorter than HWFWM. It's part of a "cosmere" much the same as Brandon Sanderson. All of Will Wights books are in the same multiverse.
This series is kind of my thing. I also wasnt liking the book until Jason purged his impurities and his friends didnt warn him that was going to happen which is exactly what my friends would do
Even though I liked Ready Player One it definitely wasn't very well written... I hope this one is better. I absolutely adore Skyrim and the entire Elder Scrolls series :)
@@scepticalbeliever I would say it is slightly better written than Ready Player One. Better world building and characters for sure. You can tell that it was a passion project for a first book, so I give it grace for that. It could have been edited down a bit. Definitely recommend though!
I am currently caught up with the current but im glad I've found you because you remind me of the minor factors I've forgotten
@@joshmcdonald2246 there are a ton of minor factors in this series! That’s probably where the series shines for me.

@colito3750 My Dungeon Crawler Carl video just went live this morning! Would love your thoughts.
Wait, Rufus's family runs a school? I got through the whole series and never caught that. Somehow this realization makes me thirsty though.
@@chadsamples6178 yeah, that’s a small detail that never really comes up. Just an FYI, Neil is a chunky elf, and Clive has a wife! 😂
