Great video Savanna. My name is Paulo - I have hiked the Inca Trail 20 times since the 80's when I started (I'm 59 now). I'm preparing to do it again, this coming January. I'm curious about your experience: did you get sick from the altitude? Soroche in Spanish. Based in your experience, what impressed you the most about your visit?
I am a Peruvian born US citizen. I visit my country of origin almost yearly since I left. People always ask me why I visit Machu Picchu so much. The first few times, I could say it was just tourist interests, but at one point I began to feel something beyond excitement. I noticed that every time I visited this place I cam back to the USA feeling recharged, energized, rejuvenated, I can't explain it easily with words.
My favorite way to get to Machu Picchu is hiking the Inca Trail during the rainy season. I don't mind rain and not as many people visiting compared to peak moments in July/August. Hiking around this place is a must! I have also hiked the Salkantay Trail and walked from St. Teresa to Aguas Calientes (they call this hike the Hiram Bingham Trail). I have visited all of the mountains around Machu Picchu using existing trails and a couple of times, using alternative non-tourist trails.
Did you know there is a competition called The Inca Trail Marathon? Some guy from Cusco was able to RUN the entire Inca Trail in about 4 hrs!! It usually takes people 4 days and 3 nights to hike it.

@@literalleighthrough cusco and that surrounding area 100%, in lima it was very different. i honestly don’t recommend staying very long and if you do only visit the Miraflores area
Why do you omit the other obvious options to reach MP like the train from Cusco? Or a tour that visits Sacred Valley and spend the nite at Aguascalientes before rising early to visit MP? Looking online there’s these options available. If you’re gonna discuss options these should be mentioned as well.
I seem to be really confused with this option. When I try to book it online, it is a bus and a train option. Meaning a bus from Cusco to.Ollantetambo and from there a train to Machu Picchu. In other videos, they mentioned a train from Cusco directly to Machu Picchu. But I don’t see that option on Inca rails or Peru rail .
Hoping that you can help answer questions. When traveling on the train from Ollantaytambo or the other place you mentioned, what size of a travel bag or backpack are you allowed to bring onto the train? I heard you cannot bring a small suitcase. Or that it has to weigh a certain amount and have specific dimensions? I want to confirm and see how to pack and travel when traveling on the train.
I honestly am not sure I’m sure it says somewhere online. All I brought was a backpack for the day because I wasn’t staying overnight in Aguas Calientes!

I want to go so bad, but I am afraid of not doing my trip correctly and missing good tricks or hidden gems.

Well the thing about peru is you can't cover everything. I've spent over 2 months there and could spend another 2 months without coming close to seeing half the things peru has to offer.
On one hand, you have to do some of the big attractions, but pick 1 or 2 small ones are worth the time to see and feel. Flights in country are cheap and a major time saver. The busses and bus system were the best I've ever been on.
The north is less traveled like trujillo and cajamarca but they have great vibes and good attractions like many ruins.
Cusco is probably the coolest city I've ever been too. Make sure you are there on a weekend. A stay in the town of macchu picchu is also special. Most have hot springs. Most people day trip it but staying overnight is cool.
