If it only happens when using hot water for shower and not on heating side or vise versa then yes 3 way valve because it's not switching the flow of water causing the heat exchanger to boil and hit the code e001.

Thank you for posting this. I have a ncb 240. Supply is getting up to 210 tripping e001. Don’t know if it’s the 3 way valve or circulating pump.
It's 90% 3 way valve 8% internal circulator and 2 % air in system not letting water circulates.
