I wish Cobain could have given himself a little more time, kicked heroin, and learned to think of himself the way Trent has. I can't imagine if Trent had followed along with Kurt.
@Mintcult He wasnt murdered, it is 100% a conspiracy and it has always been, there is plenty of investigation on the subject after 28 years but it was ruled correctly from the get go. If anything, Courtney Love (who i know is who are you thinking about) saved him as he already attempted suicide a month or so before he died (while touring on Rome) and she was the one that found him and called the emergency services. And no, is not like 'she tried to kill him and failed', even Grohl knew and said she saved him that time. The statistics show that the huge majority suicides that came to fruition are second or third attempts. The reality is that he was addicted because he had health issues, not only because he was depressed. There wasnt an alternative back them for his stomach problems (and he didnt help himself either) and that on top of his depression proved to much to bear. He was literally living in constant physical and mental pain. It was a complicated and sad situation. Every person that committed suicide deserved more time in earth (i guess except for people like Hitler). This shows how little you know about Kurt Cobain by the way.
Trent is a musical genius, there is nothing else like what he does. I've been blown away by his stuff ever since I first heard the "Closer To God" remix over the opening credits to "Se7en".
Whaaaat? I didn't know he did that one, too. Wild. I really like NIN and Trent Reznor, the more I listen and the more interviews I hear. Edit: I just listened to the credits; I see now-it was a remix! Very cool.
@@desertforest2221 yes the remix was actually released as a single with a couple of other remixes and one song not on anything else (memorabilia). Single was 'closer to god'
Im watching this for the first time ever and i need to write it: this interviewer was very good, he was respectful, insightful, eloquent and whether or not he was a fan of NIN he was very knowledgeable of Trent.
How can you not respect this guy? Like his music or not he is just a damn good human being, not only could music use more like him the world could use more like him!
What an insightful natural and easy interview to watch. Trent has come such a long way as an artist and a human being. It thrills me as a long time fan to be able to see Trent smile with enthusiasm for his future and be able to look back on his accomplishments with honesty and perspective. The best interview I have ever seen with Mr. Reznor. Great interviewer too!
He did a fantastic soundtrack for computer game Quake in 1995, it introduced me to the dark ambient genre, I feel his anger, pain and torment at times in his music and sounds.
Excellent interview, thank you for posting this. Reznor seemed mostly relaxed in this interview, which is rare. Tavist Smiley was an amazing interviewer. I really miss his show.
What a great interview by a great artist. Trent is an amazing musician and a great role model for any musician regardless of genre. He deserves all the success he gets.. and then some.
Jeeeeesus, I remember watching this movie and thinking, yeah cool script but mainly "That music...goooood , it is so familiar...why is it so familiar?" Then I saw Trent's name and...yeah...
Trent is and always will be the best! He is a survivor and and genius! His music reached inside my soul as a young child and comforted my wounds. He knew what I was living long before I live it. God Bless you Trent for being you!
@SuperRedeyedtreefrog I disagree. He's just growing up. If you listen to the music you'll see there's absolutely no selling out going on. He's just mature. Selling Out would be him writing "The Downward Spiral II: Even Downwarder"
I forgot how awesome this interview is. I dont really watch Talk Shows, but I've seen many Hosts with Trent. I think Tavis nailed this and I think Trent was right with him too. Mainly because I think that Trent felt safe. He needs that more than ever... even today! I love his new album... I can sense his happiness in the lyrics :)
Tavis Smiley interviewing Trent Reznor? Never would have imagined. Guess that's what sets him apart from other interviewers out there today. He's certainly my favorite. On another note, Trent sure does look good for 2010. Dare I say, even better than another certain notorious rock musician.
Glad he got married and has kids now. I think he has excellled. I've been listening to nine inch nails since I was 10 years old. There will always be something about that first album.
hearing pure honesty like this regardless of its topic is just fucking incredible. The interviewer is amazing as well. When he starts talking about himself in the beginning of NIN....!! that was some pure thought
Good interview. I wish more were like this - interveiwer being well informed and showing an interest, interveiwee giving thought out, intelligent answers.
This guy is one of the best interviewers that I have ever seen and listened to. He asks questions I actually care about. Not meaningless questions just to fill an interview, but questions that actually attempt to dive in to the psyche of the interviewer. I mean...it probably helps that Reznor is such an awesome person.
I... actually had no idea Trent did the score for The Social Network. And now I need to see that movie. I really enjoyed his work in the first Resident Evil movie and have loved his work in NIN and HTDA overall. I look forward to seeing what he's up to in the future.
this is an awesome inter video, the interviewer has great questions and gives Trent reznor space enough to elaborate on his questions without interrupting!!!!
I always loved Nine Inch Nails even when I was a Punk Rock/Hardcore Punk/Post Hardcore kid growing up and being into NIN was not the coolest thing on that scene even growing up in the suburbs of Denver,Colorado(where Industrial music was HUUUGEE in the 90's) but I always found his music to be incredibly intense but also with interesting, dense textures and even though hardly anyone liked it The Fragile is a Fucking Masterpiece and anybody who still doesn't realize that needs to extract their head from their ass!!!
It's part of the package deal of being a creative person. They pour their heart and soul into their works, and it's very risky b/c they don't know if the public's gonna be interested. They feel naked when they put their work out to the masses and that in turn makes them vulnerable. So it's no wonder many fall prey to drugs and alcohol due to the pressure they put on themselves and by the fans and label companies.
I always looked at NIN with prejudice. Even when I saw their Woodstock performance and liked it, it was a liking based on said prejudice. But over the years as Trent has evolved I have grown to admire the man as an intelligent songwriter. It's always nice to see musicians branching out. It doesn't matter if you don't like the changes musical artists undergo (for example, don't like Green Day's new music, but I'm proud of them), a changing artist is an evolving artist.
He was going to do the Music For DooM 3 , I never forget that. Because at that time I was a huge DooM fan and also Trent Reznor Fan. To me this was going to be a great get together. , Two worlds I loved at the time coming together. Also DooM 3 was a game that burned out a lot of PC's at that time. However Trent backed out, and my heart fail out. I am glad to see that he stuck to this one. :) Thanks Trent for inspiring me over the years. Helping me get passed my own fears also, God bless.
Ladies & gentlemen, it seems Mr. Reznor has conquered the limitations of being on the intelligent side of the Dunning-Kruger Effect. The Dunning-Kruger Effect in a nutshell: "The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. Actual competence may weaken self-confidence, as competent individuals may falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding." Props, Trent!
I saw tavis' interview of prince and now this. Two of my favorite musical artists. I think it would have been dope if prince would have been down to collaborate with trent. I think it could have been possible from two open minded dudes.
That's what's so sad about this generation. So many people today have become so saturated in things around them that they enjoy, yet they don't care to acknowledge where it all comes from.
sooo if drugs + perfectionism - impatience = an amazing decade worth of music and art what does (sobriety + impatience + saul williams)* "fuck it, just do something" attitude equal?
as I watched this, I had the overwhelming feeling that rich or poor, winner or loser, cool or uncool, the great equalizer is that it just fucking sucks to get old, and THAT I found immensely depressing.
Yeah but we can do so much, he still did awesome live shows in 2018 and onward to new stuff, joe rogan has alot of good words about getting old and rolling with it!
The dude is an inspiration. Spiritually, creatively, emotionally. We need more people like him.
Absolutely
love seeing him like this. finally happy and comfortable and just being himself. so glad he didn't end up self destructing like so often happens.
I wish Cobain could have given himself a little more time, kicked heroin, and learned to think of himself the way Trent has. I can't imagine if Trent had followed along with Kurt.
Kurt didn't have a choice his death was a staged murder.
YES, YES, YES - miss him every day...
@Mintcult He wasnt murdered, it is 100% a conspiracy and it has always been, there is plenty of investigation on the subject after 28 years but it was ruled correctly from the get go. It was a complicated and sad situation.
Every person that committed suicide deserved more time in earth (i guess except for people like Hitler).
This shows how little you know about Kurt Cobain by the way.
I think Cobain had a lot of real physical pain that drove him to the edge mentally
Fast forward 10 years and he’s on top of the film music game 🤯
Trent is a musical genius, there is nothing else like what he does. I've been blown away by his stuff ever since I first heard the "Closer To God" remix over the opening credits to "Se7en".

If you're a NIN fan, you must be imagining a weird piano sequence playing in the background as Trent speaks.
Hahah pretty much
Im watching this for the first time ever and i need to write it: this interviewer was very good, he was respectful, insightful, eloquent and whether or not he was a fan of NIN he was very knowledgeable of Trent.
I wish I appreciated Trent's music when I was younger, but it's never too late. He's a major inspiration for my own music.
How can you not respect this guy? Like his music or not he is just a damn good human being, not only could music use more like him the world could use more like him!
We should clone him.
i love and respect this gentleman so much.
What an insightful natural and easy interview to watch. Trent has come such a long way as an artist and a human being. It thrills me as a long time fan to be able to see Trent smile with enthusiasm for his future and be able to look back on his accomplishments with honesty and perspective. What a great interviewer.
He did a fantastic soundtrack for computer game Quake in 1995, it introduced me to the dark ambient genre, I feel his anger, pain and torment at times in his music and sounds.
Tavis Smiley always does great interviews. Very insightful Q&A, great viewing.
So awesome. Trent is a genuine person in this interview.. an Artist.. truly.
Excellent interview, thank you for posting this. Reznor seemed mostly relaxed in this interview, which is rare.
Tavist Smiley was an amazing interviewer. I really miss his show.
💙
Trent is a genius! He is so inspiring!

Great interview. The interviewer is so good and Trent is such a great, articulate and open subject.
He has that ASMR kinda voice. How lovely❤️
Trent is and always will be the best! He is a survivor and and genius! His music reached inside my soul as a young child and comforted my wounds. He knew what I was living long before I live it. God Bless you Trent for being you!

Downward Spiral II: Spiralin Boogaloo!
🍎. Js. 😉😜👋✌
This is a good interview as well - the interview doesn't just ask the same old questions everyone else does.
Trent is always the best in interviews. Clear and concise.
A-FUCKING-MEN, man. Trent likely saved my life with his work about 13 years ago. He can do whatever the fuck he wants now as far as I'm concerned.
Tavis Smiley interviewing Trent Reznor? Never would have imagined. Guess that's what sets him apart from other interviewers out there today. He's certainly my favorite. On another note, Trent sure does look good for 2010. Dare I say, even better than another certain notorious rock musician.
He's fantastic; so honest and cool.
great questions, great interview. love you trent!
Glad he got married and has kids now. I think he has excellled. I've been listening to nine inch nails since I was 10 years old. There will always be something about that first album.
hearing pure honesty like this regardless of its topic is just fucking incredible. The interviewer is amazing as well. When he starts talking about himself in the beginning of NIN....!! that was some pure thought
what a great interviewer, great questions, it seems that he actually does care
Good interview. I wish more were like this - interveiwer being well informed and showing an interest, interveiwee giving thought out, intelligent answers.
I love this interview. It is very empowering. Thanks for sharing it.
Loved his work on Soul. RUclips recommendations never let me down.
Chockingly humble man, considering the extent to which he has brought industrial music forth in this world of commercial bullshit.
great interview. Great questions, great responses. What every interview should be.
That man has seen, done, and felt more in his life than you ever will. Particularly with your attitude.
I come back to this video often 💪❤️😎
This guy is one of the best interviewers that I have ever seen and listened to. He asks questions I actually care about. Not meaningless questions just to fill an interview, but questions that actually attempt to dive in to the psyche of the interviewer. I mean...it probably helps that Reznor is such an awesome person.
I appreciate the the interviewer so much.
his voice, even when only talking, is truly awesome. possibly, only the true nin fan will know what i mean.
How to Destroy Angels is a testament to how far Trent has come with production.
WOW!! It is not often when I hear an intelligent interviewer.
Great clip!
This interview did a great job drawing out the essence behind the thought of Trent’s process. I got something out of it.
5:08 to 5:28 is absolutely ace. Very sound advice i wish i could apply it more to my creative endeavors.
I... actually had no idea Trent did the score for The Social Network. And now I need to see that movie. I really enjoyed his work in the first Resident Evil movie and have loved his work in NIN and HTDA overall. I look forward to seeing what he's up to in the future.
this is like the third time in 2 years i've come back to this video thinking i'd never seen it before, de ja fucking vu
Great interview. I love the questions that were asked.
Such a perfect synopsis of his work
I've been a NIN fan for decades. Trent has inspired me to get sober.
This is a great interview of a great man.
this is an awesome inter video, the interviewer has great questions and gives Trent reznor space enough to elaborate on his questions without interrupting!!!!
Trent's vocabulary is astounding.
what a great interviewer!!

Poser
Wow. Great interview (on both ends)!
How can brilliant people, creative human beings such as this man, feel not good enough and doubt his amazing self?
It's part of the package deal of being a creative person. They pour their heart and soul into their works, and it's very risky b/c they don't know if the public's gonna be interested. They feel naked when they put their work out to the masses and that in turn makes them vulnerable. He's all smiles in this interview lol
the only man i would bow to on earth. he truly is a genius
The first Quake game, actually. Brilliant soundtrack.
This man shows our true strengths, go bull brother!!!
great interview
Very good interviewer.
thanks for uploading this! hes the greatest!!!
Listening to this interview while playing Even Deeper-NIN in the background= pure gold
my biggest musical inspiration
Trent’s Best Interview 🫡
Trent is my favorite person ever.
Such an excellent opening for a great movie.
Thank you so much for uploading this. Very inspirational.
right on trent you are the man
Trent is genius~period!
I always looked at NIN with prejudice. Even when I saw their Woodstock performance and liked it, it was a liking based on said prejudice. But over the years as Trent has evolved I have grown to admire the man as an intelligent songwriter.

Trent is a gem
exactly!
smart and fun interview
He was going to do the Music For DooM 3 , I never forget that. Because at that time I was a huge DooM fan and also Trent Reznor Fan. To me this was going to be a great get together. , Two worlds I loved at the time coming together. Also DooM 3 was a game that burned out a lot of PC's at that time. Thanks Trent for inspiring me over the years. Helping me get passed my own fears also, God bless.
This has been inspiring
well to be honest, much of the film is what it is thanks to the original score. Congrats Trent, you earned it :)
smartest thing i have ever heard on youtube props
Trent Reznor is is the best period......
i love me some nin always
Way to be Trent.
What a beast
Ladies & gentlemen, it seems Mr. Reznor has conquered the limitations of being on the intelligent side of the Dunning-Kruger Effect. The Dunning-Kruger Effect in a nutshell:

Maybe he will have it one day if we all just keep telling him how awesome he is.
Yea Tavis is a great TV show interviewer. You know who else, was Henry Rollins actually. Rollins really nailed it with that interview show he had.
Tavis:Glad to have you on the show Trent.
Trent:FISTFUcccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkk.
Sometimes we are made as our own worst enemy... just the way it is
I saw on nin.com that this was scheduled and recorded the wrong time slot >:/
Thank you so much!!!
the only man i would bow to on earth. he truly is a genius. daft punk and trent own the film scores.
True what you said
This interviewer is great
I saw tavis' interview of prince and now this. Two of my favorite musical artists. I think it would have been dope if prince would have been down to collaborate with trent. I think it could have been possible from two open minded dudes.

sooo if drugs + perfectionism - impatience = an amazing decade worth of music and art what does (sobriety + impatience + saul williams)* "fuck it, just do something" attitude equal?
@GuyInLove7 - I could not agree more! Well said both by yourself and Trent
as I watched this, I had the overwhelming feeling that rich or poor, winner or loser, cool or uncool, the great equalizer is that it just fucking sucks to get old, and THAT I found immensely depressing.
cryvsspy i get very depressed about getting old to, its terrible :/
Yeah but we can do so much, he still did awesome live shows in 2018 and onward to new stuff, joe rogan has alot of good words about getting old and rolling with it!
Idk man, seems like he's better than ever was.
