I love how he basically went, "man...having an addiction is painful, and soul crushing. Time to quit."
Proceeds to go through rehab, make a great comeback album, gets fit, gets married, has kids, and is forever a legendary musician.
@Chase Sage get the fuck off
And yet Chris Cornell makes me worry about him always
How the fuck does he manages to do this
@@jessgeorgesaji6263 Willpower, devotion and ambition.
David Bowie also was a mentor and inspired him to get sober…check out his most recent interview with Rick Rubin. Prob his most honest and best one, he’s gotten better as time goes on.
sometimes in the middle of the day I remind myself that there still IS Trent Reznor and he overcame addiction and this makes me insanely happy and relieved. It would have been hella sad if he had gone away like several epic 90's musical personas.
Yes and now he's got an Oscar and his wife Mariqueen Maandig is pregnant with their 5th child.
Multi millionaire 'beats' addiction, i'm not knocking Trent I think he's an amazing artist, but he isn't your average addict, the average addict would give limbs for the support Trent would have got
@@MrSwisstoful Yeah you are right but the biggest support you need through that time is making that real and true decision yourself and having a reason within yourself to get through It, sadly a lot of people don't.
@@jamesbarnett527 he was nearly broke suing his manager around the time of this interview... I hate Trent for his abuse of white women, while he worships women of color, but he did do well to get sober and he was not that rich afaik.
@@jamesbarnett527 malm paid damages and restitution, no? As for his anti-whiteness... it's complicated.
He seems socially awkward, but one thing ive noticed is that the most socially awkward people, usually make the best artists, because the only way they can really speak is through the art the make, its like for them, its more simple, or at least a better medium.
He’s just real… Hardly socially awkward in the grand scheme of social awkwardness, but then again his general demeanor is well familiar to me for 20 years now.
"You look really bulky, have you been working out?" "Uh yeah..i mountain bike quite a bit" lol
TheWitchfinder1 lmao
when i seen this im like " gaayyyy" but im also cool w/ it
@@cosmiccosplays5945 Real mature. 🙄
Mountain biking makes you lean.
I feel nothing but respect and admiration for Mr. Trent Reznor. Bear in mind that this man was completely fucked up back in the '90s, he sank into a deep depression and had nothing but a drug addiction, he felt lonely and desperate. He somehow overcame all of that and by the mid-2000s he was a new, happier man, going to the gym and leaving behind all the addictions he had, marrying a beautiful wife and having children with her. Oh, and let's not forget that he's an influential multi-award winning musician. A true hero and genius!
Ironically it was during the Self Destruct Tour.
@@newyorkreload it isnt ironic at all…
@@unknownyoutubeuser1796 thats nice.
It’s funny hearing him say he only dealt with it for a year
Those of us who know the true struggle laugh at that statement.
He went through nothing.
But we still respect him.
@@unknownyoutubeuser1796 Ok retard.
he's literally so beautiful, in every way
I could listen to Trent talk about life, synthesizers and music all day, everyday. There's something about his voice and how he carries himself that is almost irresistible as a person and an artist...SBN RESONATE
Cool interview, Trent always has something interesting to say.
I think because Johnny had struggled with addiction too that he really identified with Trent's Hurt on deeper levels, like beyond it being a good song he could bring that same soul behind it so it's particularly successful due to the similar artistic honesty. I'm glad that Trent loved it, and I'm glad he got sober and worked with Bowie too.
I've always respected Trent's open nature and besides being a NIN fan I think it's easy for everyone to simply be a fan of him as a person.
Staraptor is ugly! "I'm Afraid of Americans" look it up!
Staraptor is ugly! :: They did a great tour together and have several interesting interviews on RUclips. Trent also did a tribute after Bowie's passing, a cover performance of his "I can't give everything away"
It's like he's embarrassed to say he lifts weights or something for some reason :D
Chris S. true lol
He later opened up more about it. He does in fact bike a lot as his wife enjoys it as well. But he does work out a lot... he was trying to escape his habit of isolation by moving to L.A. but he ended up sort of... taking his time with it step by step, so his transformation was like a reintroducing the wolf to the wild. He went out more and more and socialized more and more but in his downtime he found that exercise sort of replaced the drugs and booze that he kicked during the fragile era. The rush and euphoria from a hard workout became almost as addicting as the drugs. He sort of got massive real fast. He went from skinny as fuck to straight up stacked rather quickly. Sort of went health nut instead of addict.
John Dough he’s on TRT for sure. He looks great for his age with the amount of partying he did.
@@BushmasterRaZ I try and lift and bike but I don't really enjoy it. I prefer to walk 30 mins a day and hike on the weekends. When I do 'workout' its just dumbells and body weight stuff. I was getting good gains during lock down but now that we are back in the office the muscle kind of is going away. and i like drinking still lol even though I am almost 40. i guess if he enjoys it thats good but its hard for me. no real enjoyment. even though I feel good afterwards i just dont feel THAT good.
its vain
I discovered Trent when I was a young kid sleeping in the top bunk sharing a room with my older brother. I would wait for him to go to sleep and play pretty hate machine tracks on my cd player right next to my ear as my head lay on the pillow. The volume had to be very low. The sounds of the CD skipping to the next song use to wake me up. I didnt care. Trent's music then and now is great for one simple reason. Its honest and humbling. Thanks my dude for all the great music you have created.
That's really cool that Trent worked with Dave Grohl on "With Teeth" I did not know that.
Same, bro, same. Damn!
Dave has been in so many projects including queens of the stone age
Yeah, Dave Grohls a spare drummer of sorts for Trent Reznor at times when Trent wants that raw hard hitting live drum sound. When he wants Rock music to be a part of his sound.
dave grohls a sap
I'm pretty sure EVERYBODY has respect for Trent.
he creates sometimes agressive music but man he is a nice guy i can just listen to him...oh there you go another interview
“it is tougher to mountainbike when there are no mountains....”
You like nu metal?
With Teeth is my favorite album of all time and knowing what mindset he had going into makes me love it that much more.
are you sure you've heard NIN's previous albums?
@@unknownyoutubeuser1796 Huge Fragile here, Trent being alive is more important than still making the same depressing and dark music from 25 years ago, and funny enough somehow, he still does, not the way you'd expect though. Big noises or heavy riffs doesn't equal quality, but I'm sure you already figured that out in 2022, where music genres should be less important.
Trent truly is a treasure
Being a crazy industrial metal fan, although Rammstein is my favourite band, NIN will always be one of my top 5 favourite bands that also inspired me on writing my own music, their music is very innovative like it was written yesterday, many metal bands in the 90s and afterwards owe them a lot.
trent is a big inspiration in my life!!!!
same here
Same here
Always loved his music, never read up on him or found anything out about him, what an inspiring guy, not just for his music, but how in touch he is with himself as a creator thanks for sharing this
Ditto.
Also; Thanks
When they were talking about Johnny Cash doing hurt, seems like he was getting pretty emotional, hence throat clearing, but I agree with what he says, Johnny did a great job.
I agree; I teared up when I first saw the Johnny Cash video for 'Hurt,' it was so epic and beautiful.
God hes so inspirational. I love to sing and play guitar and drums an bass. Trent is one of my HUGE influences, especially all his previous creations over the last twenty five years or so...
I’m only about a minute in, but, I appreciate how natural this interview feels ❤️ Trent’s honesty; throughout his art/life is perpetually refreshing. Interviews with popular artists usually deter me; they’re more often than not fake, rehearsed, heavily edited and approved/revised. Even within the popular community, Trent is an outsider. That’s how I feel about Neil Peart too. Thank you for posting this 🙏
I said it once and I said it again Trent is like good wines: the older the better!!!!
True
so down to earth trent is one of the few i look up to.
Humble, honest.
Thanks for posting this. There aren't enough videos-audios of interviews or just with Trent Reznor having a discussion with someone.
I am interested in many things that I have never heard him talk about & because of his music & his genius & how he has evolved over the decades; I am very interested in what he has to say.
His voice is very soothing to me as well. I'd love for him to write an autobuography. I'd love to read any book that comes from his creative mind-same for for a show-Like a series or a movie.
I know there was a chance this was going to happen with 'Year Zero.....I wonder if it can still happen or if Trent would consider doing such a project.
More than anything-Since I discovered NIN so late in life; just back in August 2021.....I wish he reconsiders giving us some more live shows. I really want to see him live in concert with my son. It would be such a positively life-changing experience for both of us.
I am thankful for all he has already given us & very happy that he is healthy & has a beautiful wife & children & seems to have found his happiness.
*****Please teach us the secrets Mr .Trent Reznor
He isn't old. He wasn't old then and honestly, he isn't old now.
He’s killin’ it.
I'm hard straight so dont take this wrong... I Love Trent Reznor. Every piece of music he touches turns magical.
Bruh it's not gay to love someones art lol
dont have to state your sexuality :)
"hard straight"
ok man
okay 'hard straight'
With Teeth stands up to all of the classic NIN albums. I didn’t totally feel that way when it was released, but front-to-back it grabs me as much as any of their albums nowadays
Inspirational, I really needed too hear this. I've been stuck. This helps. Thank you Trent
Thanks for providing this interview. What an amazing piece.
Thanks for uploading this. I love watching his interviews. Everything he says is so measured and substantial even when he's being humorous. He's so articulate with his thought, and it even comes through in his music.
This man is a musical genius, I seem to love every project he works on. Just streamed the new How to Destroy Angels album off pitchork....its epic.
Dig this interview, thanks for posting!
Use to love listening to Trent's music in the early 90's ... Seeing him on MTV, his music video "Into the Void" I was in awe! Now still loving his music and how he did stuff with David Bowie Bowie, Gary Numan, Dave Grohl, and Peter Murphy all my favorites.
I just now seen this video and you have inspired me like always from day one..... Thank you so much for opening up in allowing me to know the right path to follow
Love the honesty of this interview.
He was also into drugs too. I remember reading him saying cocaine and maybe heroin too. But he doesn't really like to talk about that I think because it's painful.
He was a Junkie I’m glad he made it through
He's an Excellent Musican and has interesting concepts as well as awsome repitiore.....
I have listened to NIN since the mid 90's....
This guy is very genuine. Good video. Thanks!
That was a great interview.
Pre-Tront
da hell is tront
Dude I got Tronted so hard at the concert I was at
Heheh, Proto-Tront
What's the story behind Tront?
The quality is fine for me. good post.
Inspiration to us all!..
he looks better with age
Great interview, fascinating stuff
Oh NEVERMIND it’s definitely him when he talks about hiding songs somewhere you know it’s THE REAL TRENT M REZNOR THE ONE AND ONLY OH YEP ITS HIM THANK GOD ❤
what a lad
Love how he says Books are better then movies.. so TRUE.. you get to conjure up the images in your own mind with books and your mind makes the movie essentially. TV is overrated. I prefer books myself
There comes a time when a strong surge runs through me and feel catapulted into celebrity status mentally like WOW I can do this ❤😊
thank you sir
I love the work dave did with ghost.
I want to hear that Zack/Trent collab so bad!
it become a stripped down, songy type of record, felt like the right thing to do.
I would use the word "Focused" to describe that. Bravo Trent.
Un grandísimo musico
"Don't you fucking know who you are?!"....yeah i do...im Trent Reznor and I'm the fucking man! thats what that songs about lol
when u fall in luv w trent you take him for better and for worse. being his fan is like a marriage and only in death do you part. oh, say no to chiva! lol
Miss Rachel creepy and weird but true and I kinda agree with you dude
Its crazy how a person so talented, capable and innovative would, or could, ever doubt themselves or their ability.
Woh Trent doesnt breath. Trance. Woo hoo when I hear his music is like bare chested in a snow storm
He didnt skip a few years just cuz he was on drugs. He was in his own world.
I'd like to see how he puts his music together.
Look up "this is a trent report song" you will laugh but get it.
Trent should have said "I am cultivating mass"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Trent, your the coolest
I still want to hear the Zack de la Rocha stuff they did together
That and Tapeworm with MJK
Way to go and entertain Trent I'll even listen to you talk through interviews wow I suppose I am your fan, oh by the way, good for you on getting clean keep up the entertaining for us masses!
He wasn't an AA'er but he did get help with recovery formally back before The Fragile.
I wanna know where all the music he hid is! There's probably some awesome songs in there.
This man is so hot
That camera operator needs a serious slap in the face.
WTF dude
He’s so guarded here. And for good reason. Fuggin’ MTV.
“You live in LA?”
Trent handled that so gracefully. You could tell he wanted to go off on him, but he restrained it. I would have told that interviewer I’m not a fuckin’ butt of your stupid stereotype joke.
😂😂😂😂
Looks a little like a stocky Prof.Snape:) NIN Rocks!
Good Guy Uploader
apologizes for bad quality even if its very pleasurable.
Thanks
Looks like Snape.
Laura Willoughby Snape looked like him.
Lol. A bit.

Dors anyone know what came of the sessions with Zach from Rage? Was that what that "One Day as a Lion" ep was? Because i remember that being cool (im not a RATM fan)
if that isn't the mousiest little interviewer...
He's really intelligent and I like how he speaks.
Lol @ around 8:38. He's looking at his hands spacing out and catches himself. Yes, Trent is human just like the rest of us lol. 3:40 he's got that "oh shit I was on camera spacing out" look.
Hey look it's snape!
🔥
I wish Trent would do something similar to With Teeth.
Creatively, it'd be a step backwards and i think he is on a creative high right now with the film scores
@@robertoflores4925 I'd just like to hear a different tone from the electronic soundscape. Just looking to hear something different. I do love his film scores though.
@@dools93 ok, that's cool. Personally, I'd like to see him do an album like david bowie's pin-ups
Well, not me.
I think its cool that its like, its own little thing.
2005 is when Katrina hit. Trent literally moved out of the New Orleans before the storm hit.
thank goodness!
TRT Trent Reznor
mark my words he will grow his hair back....lol

I wish he would. He looks so good with it.
He's actually having a long hair now 😆 this comment was foreshadowing

Severus Snape is American!
He was into coke, a lot. He OD'd on heroin once, because he bought and used it under the impression it was coke.
I think he may have been in to heroin, but I don't know it for fact.
I can hardly believe how clueless this interviewer is. How does he NOT know that MUCH of Reznor's work from Downward Spiral to then (2005) was about addiction and trying to recover?
When he asks about the line "I can't go through this again." Are you kidding me?... Reznor is telling himself that if he slides back into using again, he will NOT SURVIVE to get clean because he simply cannot go through it again.
Now, I am not a drug user or an addict. I don't smoke pot. I rarely drink. Yet, even someone like me can understand Reznor's lyrics...and what he is conveying.
This guy thinks it's about romantic relationships??? Talk about seeing yourself everywhere you look (projecting your own stuff onto others while being incapable of standing in their shoes and taking their perspective).
Honestly, this is an embarrassing interview (for the interviewer). Reznor was kind in not telling this guy that this song was not about him, and instead just saying he doesn't like to discuss lyrics. smh
wow he got kids my daughters age.
His wife Mariqueen Maandig is pregnant with their 5th Child!
This is where the long hair do was starting not to work. Getting older means thinning hair. Which is why he now shaves his head.
More like the letting it get long again, or cutting it but trying to keep it long.... That doesn't work
well, he also dyes his hair
His hair hasnt thinned at all, he dosent even have a receding hairline.
He throws money at it so you can't tell.
I dont know y'all I'm kind of OK with it haha. I like it better now but this was alright too. Shorter has to be easier though
Trent is an alcoholic. But he's in recovery.
I had to have babies young,I couldn't do it older, but he the daddy,so he just make the bread the mama got the babies.
