It would be really cool if you started live streaming, i would love to be able to watch this stuff live and be able to contribute. Keep doing what youre doing!
I use a TC Electronic Mimiq pedal to get this effect live. It gently modulates one side to make it sound like 2 separate guitars. Highly recommend for stereo setups.
I’ve been playing guitar into a stereo stompbox and playing one part mic’d live to a real amp with a condenser mic several feet away (something I learned from a FB friend who trekked to TX to jam and hang out for a few days; had a blast) and while the same signal is going into my NUX floor processor (it’s about like a Line 6 POD Go etc) then going to two trax of my DAW. Mixing a real amp plus pedals with digital amps/pedals. It’s a fun way I thought of to experiment by, and I’ve been getting really great toneage and interesting sounds…that’s another way such a setup is good for, having 2 completely different sets of efx pedals in each track, especially unusual ones such a pitch-shifters, my real EHX “Talker” pedal, choruses, etc. I’m sure others do that same thing, but it doesn’t seem like I’ve ever heard anyone talking about it.
I came across your channel about a week ago, and I have been binge-watching it like my wife watches Real Housewives of You truly have a gift for writing riffs, thic or otherwise. Your content is so consistently entertaining and well-made that I genuinely forget that you don't have 1 million+ subs, and can only assume that you will get there with nothing more than some time. I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you for taking the time to do what you do. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go to Walgreens and purchase a neck brace, because all these thick ass riffs have had my head on a real Y-axis swivel lately.
I stumbled upon your vids after I discovered the band Chronologist, absolutely love the music you've done with them, as well as your solo stuff. The first time I watched a video from you, it clicked with me instantly.Your workflow is incredibly inspiring, even for someone like me who tries to get the best out of built-in plug-ins in a DAW when it comes to effects and mixing and mastering. Keep up the great work! Love the Thick Riff Thursdays as much as the next guy! lol
Its insane how simple it is to make music now a days. Its all right there. I have to actually play my bass on my stuff but 20 minutes and you can have a demo done. Nice riff 👍
Maaah Niiib, glad that today's TRT came out earlier hahaha! That riff brings me "The Ending Explained" vibes, i love that EP you made dudee, thanks for always bringing joy to my Thursday! 🖤
Newb drum sequencing question - how do you record on the same midi region without it deleting the previous (kick drum) takes? I'm also utilizing Logic and GGD PV.
Another easy way to add depth to doubles is to use a different pickup position, you get a lot of the same benefit of switching guitars without having to actually, you know, switch guitars.
Just when different tones are more easily accessible, it looks like guitarists and producers forget how great this technique sounds. I'd even go a step further and add a third thick and bassy guitar in the middle (Metallica's black album style)
watching these videos makes me wonder if engineering is really what i want to be studying rn.....also just failed a diff eq exam so that may add to it lmfao
Please tell me, either for end of year or early next year, you'll go through all of these and pick, I dunno, maybe 3? of your favourite of these riffs and turn them all into full songs? That would be primo content my dude, these always come out thicc and delicious, would love to hear some of them kneaded into some full length goodness! Keep it up my man :)
Thanks so much!! Honestly, the goal is to make all of them full songs 😂 Obviously that's unrealistic but a couple of them have already been finished! Hoping to release some stuff early next year.
Nowadays across many modern songs there are a lot that just rely on one set of the same amp sim and ir loaders on both sides. If they blend in amps, it's usually double tracked or quad tracked but that's not the same as having different sounds on either side. Because the layers are the exact same and almost processed the same on either side
Interesting. I thought most producers used different amp/guitar/speaker/mic combos when tracking guitars It's one of the few things that providers a richer and more interesting tone, because if you're tracking or even worse copy/pasting the exact same parts across the track you don't get the separation necessary to make the whole thing sound bigger.
Yes, most bands don't use the exact same amps for both guitars. In the studio sometimes I'll have one dude do both left right with the same amp and then the other guy do a center tone with a different amp. generally i prefer the same amps left right but not always. People who track only using sims is a little different than people who track live bands with their gear. I prefer using amps and then that part is "done" it is what it is, no fiddling around with different vst's etc searching for the "perfect" tone. You do lose some versatility tho because you are committed from the start. BUT i often take DI just in case, tho i rarely end up using it. For bass it's usally always DI.
So where is the "long forgotten recording technique"? Quite misleading title and please don´t come with "HAVE U WATCHED THE VIDEO", yes, I did and its an interesting "creating a riff idea and record the single parts" but nothing about a special recording technique.

Very sick! You came up on my recommended and I’ve been digging it. This riff sounds like Plini and I love it!

I did this when I first started songwriting about 2 years ago, im glad you made this video as I honestly forgot this amazing technique.
Can’t believe it’s already episode 31
Thicc Nick Thursday always satisfies!
I just did this myself. And it really beefed things up!
I learned this technique from a JST video. Def works well! I like the sound of blended amps vs one.
You know it's thursday when you it's thursday ...

easily the best metal production channel on RUclips. talented composer and writer too! wonderful sounding music.

Best RUclips channel ever
I love doing this, the latest recording I did had a tone x 5150 capture on the left and a line 6 badonk on the right.
Boosted 5150iii with that dark terror underneath.
Beautiful!♥♥♥
Such Chimp Spanner vibes - I love it!

Multiple tracks that receive different kit pieces prob
In the top menu go to Record > Overlapping MIDI recordings > Merge!
@@nickbroomhallmusic Gracias my guy.

This is awesome man!
Great work man!

that lead was TASTY
Nice one!

Sick riffs. Intervals-esque 👍
put this on the album!!!

I like to record different amps for the left and right channels but I prefer using the same or close sounding IRs on both channels
The real crazy kids use different guitars too. And way back in the day two totally different players used to track the left and right side
And get this, sometimes they even used a... GASP! REAL BASS PLAYER!
Cool cool
Love your stuff man.
Archetype Odeholm is sooo good, thick sound.
Very interesting video! I subscribed and look forward to more content!
Do you have a video of your master bus setup? And how do you record the sound in real time for your RUclips videos? Thanks!
Very arch echoes melodies and riffs
Think it would sound dope in 15/16!
Hey bro just wanted to say how many times you've inspired me to get up and go try and write something 😅 thanks bro
So cool to hear, thanks man! 🙏
Today's video came early 👀
Great riff! Kinda reminds me early Veil of Maya
watching these videos makes me wonder if engineering is really what i want to be studying rn.....also just failed a diff eq exam so that may add to it lmfao
yo George Lever said he used Plini on that Loathe record! Very sick for low tuned stuff!

Can you explain your drum routing in a video ? I use the GGD Architects One Kit Wonder in Logic and I don't know how to rout it...
Is it possible for you to upload the 2010s djent tone to your website?
I second this.

you should make some thic riff coffee, some real riff fuel is you ask me
So what was the forgotten technique? Seems like pretty standard stuff.
Blending 2 different amps left/right. I'm assuming the younger audience might not know.

ULTRA HIGH GAIN DOESN'T MEAN GOOD SOUND/TONE AND IT WILL BE BETTER. JUST THE AMP MODEL TYPE. REMEMBER. :D
How do you place the lead like that in the background? It still sounds center but behind the rhythm tracks. Eq? Or just decreasing volume?
Sounds like stereo reverb with a bit of predelay
Reverb makes things sound farther back because it mimics irl spaces
Thanks for the great video, just out of curiosity, what is that black guitar hanging on the wall behind you? It looks awesome.

What's that bass library & amp name?
Hm )) Great drums! What the plugin?
Do you have logic templates?
yo what do you use for drums
do people not record two seperate rigs for rhythm guitars in the studio normally lol.
time to completely re-work my guitar recording process because nick made a video on a forgotten technique
also, any plans on making a discord server?
Do you usually keep your drum midi velocities close to 127 or lower? Also what kit is this?
I do this with pickup selection/amp preset cause I can’t afford all them plug ins 😂
That sounds good as fuck. Spotify?
People don’t normally use different amps on the left and right? Am I a dinosaur
Excuse me but what DAW are u using in this vid?
do you have some music to listen to? I dig your riffs and need some new music to listen to
forgotten ?! nah.. nice playing and ideas tho
I want harry potter
listens to chimp spanner once...
you just need to tune to 432hz
can i steal your idea? imma call is shit riff sundays, and be all hung over and make sloppy (tight) riffs
