    I used to hate on campers and people that used them, like I was more in touch with nature because I slept in a tent. Turning 35 now, I’ve got the old lady and the busted back. A camper with a toilet and a mattress - I have changed my position.

      @@khaanadian9648 Well there's a lot of it and relatively few of us so it's more than easy to escape into nature out here. A 45 - 60 min drive out of any major city (Syd, Mel, Bne) will land in you in the country and it goes on and on and on from there with all manner of landscape (grassland, rivers, beaches etc) + our roads are HQ + several large scale specialty stores have popped up in the past 20 years dedicated solely for gear/supplies, so yeah it's massively popular.

We have been Overlanding for a few years now and highly recommend it. You get to go to a lot of places that you normally wouldn't. The scenery is amazing. Have fun.

    Don't forget to get the in-line water softener canisters for your fresh water/blue tanks. They remove all kinds of contaminates, and it makes youe water taste much better. Congrats on the new set up. ROCK ON!

    • @largemarge1603
      @largemarge1603 2 года назад +1

      @RL,
      One of our hobbies is walking wrecking-yards aka 'dismantlers'.
      As the aluminum sides of a RecreateVehicle are removed for scrap, the innerds are available for inspection.
      .
      We see translucent fresh-water tanks with inches of mucky sediment.
      We think an in-line filter -- one would be minimum, several in series is ideal -- is mandatory for filling a factory RecreateVehicle tank.
      .
      2003, we converted a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle.
      We decided against one or two yuge fresh-water tanks.
      Instead, we use stainless-steel five-gallon retired Pepsi kegs.
      Advantages:
      * modular -- our standard load is seven kegs -- thirty-five gallons -- but we can easily double or triple that
      * a couple-three kegs can go to town for re-fill while the others stay in camp
      * if one keg gets stanky, the others stay in use... and can clean the problem-child
      * a keg can go to the campfire or picnic-table.
      And a few dozen more kegs can fit in the toy-hauler I fabricated from a similar commercial chassis.
      .
      These kegs are engineered to be pressurized.
      For our use, a quick puff from a 12vdc bicycle tire pump gives fresh clean water from the outlet, a stand-still house kitchen-sink sprayer.
      .
      For showers, we use a dedicated three-gallon 'Torpedo' keg, a miniature of the Pepsi kegs.
      .
      To heat water, we use 'sous vide' circulation heaters designed to hold cooking water at a set temperature.
      .
      After a half-century of camping in lesser rigs, experimenting with gadgets and gizmos, our ExpeditionVehicle is as simple as we can get.

    If your fridge runs on propane, use that and save your battery. You’re going to need 2000 watt inverter at least. More if you want to run an A/C if you have it. Small 2500watt gas generator. Then you can be off grid for a while. I live in Montana and we’re camping this week. Totally crowded in most campgrounds.

    Nice. No stranger to campers and RV's. My most memorable was a 13ft Scamp when I lived in Alaska as a young man. A great unit. Up there if the weather was nice the bugs were out. If the bugs were down the weather was nasty. It was a nice way to still get out but have a place to retreat from the bugs, weather and larger things that might try to eat you. Good memories. You can haul bikes and kayaks and whatever gear on the truck with a trailer too. I have an (inherited) ginormous Lance slide in if anyone is shopping - LOL.

    Love the Travel Trailer Pat! I tow with my tundra as well. I'm towing a 6400 lbs (gross) travel trailer and the tundra does great, but requires a weight distribution hitch and sway control. My 2014 tundra manual says the limit for towing without a weight distribution hitch is 5000 lbs (sr5 crew max 4x4 offroad). Your year/trim Tundra may be different. Checkout the equalizer hitch if you are interested. So far it is my favorite and is easy to remove the bars when you need offroad articulation. Cheers and safe travels to you and Rebecca!

    Titan fuel tanks makes fuel tanks called the sidekick I think that bolt on in bed on the sides and usually curve over the wheel wells in the bed. Little more expensive than Jerry cans but might be something worth the investment because it’s a more long term solution and also concealable under a tonneau cover on the truck bed

      @largemarge1603 2 года назад

      2003, the foundation vehicle for our ExpeditionVehicle had a single 50-gallon fuel-tank.
      .
      At a heavy-truck dismantlers, we acquired a 140-gallon 'saddle' tank... for a total of 190-gallons on the rig.
      .
      We acquired a 120-gallon fuel-tank for the poop-deck on the toy-hauler.
      In theory, our range is Anchorage-to-Acapulco without re-fueling.

You might also consider a couple lithium batteries for better storage / usage capacity. I ran a slightly larger unit up here in Alberta Canada. Practice backing up a trailer if you've never towed before. I worked with a trailer on y truck every day for years and years. Take your time and really understand what's going on and how to achieve your desired goal and the rest will just take experience. Find a parking lot, a field just some open space and practice backing that thing up, turning around like you pulled onto a dead end 1.5 lane road. That'll help.

    You're going to want more of a truck now.. A 3/4 ton to 1 ton Ford or Ram for sure.
