Looks like a nice day for a hike. Nice short one today... You know, it took me years to figure out why they named it Biscuit Basin, then one day, the park service put up a little entry why it was named Biscuit. I figured someone in the Washburn expedition cooked breakfast there. lol. No, it was named for the small rock formations around Sapphire Pool. Then one day after the 1959 earthquake, Sapphire erupted, and all the little "biscuits" went away. But the name stuck, lol. They should post these little explanations by the basins themselves...
Nice Backroad! Yeah, that earthquake had a dramatic effect on the thermal features in the park. (Earthquake Lake is pretty cool too!) I didn't know this about the Biscuits in the pools... Great comment... Thanks for your knowledge!
Thanks Jeff! I had never actually hiked it, so it was a really cool stroll. I'll be back up there, as it's just too accessible from the geyser basin. & an absolutely gorgeous waterfall!
Thanks for the tour Todd! Biscuit is a great place for photography. I remember laying down on the boardwalk to get close up photos of the different thermophile colors and abstract patterns. I never made it to Mystic Falls, or Fairy Falls for that matter, so thanks for the hike along! Most of the yellows are Arrow leaf Balsamroot. The last time I was there was before the park service built an "official" trail to Grand Prismatic overlook, so you know how long that's been. I have some shots from that spot that still make me smile.
Thanks for the flower info... I need to get a book one of these days. A lot of different plants out there in the wild! Happy to have you out on the trail Steve!
Big fan of your videos. Never been to Yellowstone and probably never will. I love how organized you are, your orientation, and composition of videos. Amazing scenery. Fantastic the way you frame your shots, and the editing that you do. It is great to know the wide scope of Yellowstone. I had no idea of the vast wilderness that you take your viewers on. I also like your respect that you show to all the features of the park and your comments are very informative, but also warm and amusing. With all the news we get these days, it is meditative to get away from all that and just see you and the mountains, geysers, waterfall, and the occasional bear 🙂. My only wish is if you knew the names of some of the trees as I am interested in plant life. Otherwise, more adventures, please. Thanks for everything.
Thanks Kathryn, I appreciate your words, and yeah, Park Junkie has always sought refuge from the nonsense of the civilized world out there in the wild. Hopefully, such access is never restricted and we can get back to reality whenever the urge arises. Thanks for watching!
Hey PJ! I hope you are doing well. I hiked up to Mystic Falls last week and wow, what a nice little hike! I realize after watching your video again, that I did not make it to the top like you, so now, I need to go back and re-visit. Thank you for the recommendation, though. I've lived here for 9 years and never even knew that was there! Keep bringing us all the great info please! Take care! 🐻
Oh yeah, you'll wanna cruise up there for sure. I'd say sunset is a good time, provided you give yourself good time to get out of there before it gets dark, as the trail down is a bit steep there for a bit. It's a great view tho! & with any luck, you'll have it all to yourself!
Nice one Park Junkie. That area reminded me of my old stomping grounds in the Adirondacks, specifically the Lake Durant area and beyond. If you have never been to upstate New York can always stick a pin in the idea. Also spend some time at Lake Champlain while your at it. My favorite launching point was from the Burlington side of the lake, but the whole are at that time was some nice looking country. You can get on a ferry and I recommend you try them all. I recommend the Velcor for your first ride if it's still running. These memories are from 1980 to 89, so things may have changed, but probably still the same in many ways. As always thanks for all you do Park Junkie.
Yes, there are actually many small steam vents all around those falls. I noticed numerous such features on my way down to the falls as well. This place is alive!
Just loving these videos! We were in Yellowstone this summer just after they opened the North Loop up again. We only had 2 days and only so much we could do with our 4 kids, so it's really nice to get to see some of the things we couldn't do through your videos. And it's nice to see some of the places we did get to see and just relive our trip. Thanks for great content!!
Another wonderful hike with you Todd C. Thank you so much for sharing your fun with us. You have such a way to take us with you that is amazing. The scenery is so beautiful, the landscape, the water fall, and mostly the sky, the sky, the sky. There are no sky like that where I live. By the way, I was hungry when I finished watching your video: biscuits and mustard made me really hungry. 🙂 Thanks again Todd and I am waiting for our next hike in Yellowstone. I am missing going there...
Yeah, we actually got a big storm the other night. The east side road from Cody was briefly closed due to mudslides on the road... 😳 Big rains this year... I went down to the North Fork of Shoshone River yesterday, it was flowing almost as heavy as it was when I was there in June. Crazy
Hey Todd!! Such a great hike, we got to hike this trail on our first visit to Yellowstone back in 2012, and on the way back down the trail, I actually did get into the river at that very spot.
@@theparkjunkie I'm going to video it in 180 VR and I'm also going to find out what the 10"x10"x5" or 6" dark object is that I got on video when I was in Wyoming before COVID-19 hit. It could be Forrest Fenn's real treasure chest and so I need to find out just what it is that I videoed.
Park Junkie! You do an outstanding job of presenting the trails and viewpoints of Yellowstone! I’ve hiked most of the same trails, and I really enjoy your joy in being there. Gotta ask, though, when hiking in grizzly country, why don’t you take hiking partners for safety’s sake? You were fortunate, I think, on Top Notch/First Peoples’ Peak to have had a buddy when you met that bear family. Alone, you may have had more trouble. Primary comment, though, thanks for making very enjoyable videos!
Yeah Jonny, thanks for the query... I often enjoy hikes with homies, but I do also greatly enjoy just wandering alone... I did it endlessly as a kid growing up in the woods. Just went out all day by myself... grew to enjoy the process. But I do agree, probably safer to hike with a group. Cheers Jonny Z
Well, I'm actually leaving the park very soon... It's cooling off down in the desert... 🤔 There could be some red rock footage on the channel in the next week or so!
Yes, I did that one a while back... It would be cool to connect it in to the Mystic via that spur trail that I passed. Bet there aren't many folks out there.
How about Park Junkie guided hikes to some of these off the beaten path trails and summits? Proof that YS is so much more than a driving park. You do a great job on your channel! Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful day for a hike! The view of the basin is fantastic! Looked like you were getting a little rambunctious yourself at the base of the falls, eh? Say, I'm curious about the way you lace your hiking shoes...they look pretty loose to this casual observer.
A fine day no doubt! I actually played it pretty cool up there Yawn... I am often known to get a bit more rambunctious than that... 😳 Oh, the shoes... I lace them up for some hikes, but only for the truly rambunctious journeys... Takes time to lace those things up you know... 😁
More beautiful scenery. Bozeman grandson sends a few pics as he knows how much I like trees and water. Backpack looks full , what do u carry ? Liked the color of today's hiking britches.🌅🌳
Trees and water are vital elements in my diet... Backpack usually has some rain gear and warm layers when hiking up here... I also have water, snacks, some form of sugar drink, and of course the standard knife, lighter, compass, gps, bear spray (two cans after my charge in June)... Probably some other stuff in there too... Those are my getting after it britches...!
Love your channel, coming up end of Oct for 4 days. Can you give me some must sees while I am there? I dont mind hiking but not skilled at it but would love to see some stuff that is not right on the tourist trails. Thanks so much!
@@theparkjunkie Actually I was hoping to get to see it through your eyes. We wanted to make that trip ourselves but I wasn't so sure about the possibility of camping in the back country overnight. So we skipped it on our visit to Yellowstone.
@@nannettemannon123 Ah, I understand it is a great wildlife viewing area, as Alice mentioned. I would have liked to have gotten in there, but that part of the park was fairly inaccessible during the summer due to the floods. I’ll try to get in there next summer! I hope you had a fab trip to Yellowstone nevertheless!
Well, you shouldn't have a problem with parking spaces... Oh, & bring rain gear, and keep it handy... it will rain on you, and it really sucks if you don't have it readily available for rapid deployment. What specifically do you need help with?
I worked 2 Summers in Yellowstone. Thank you for the beautiful video. Takes me back!!!!

Mystic falls was gorgeous! Thanks for taking us along ! Such a beautiful place to be !
Glad you could join us out there Linda… stay tuned! Fun stuff coming up this week from another park!
Was there many times with my girlfriend when I worked at old faithful inn in the summer of 1976. Thanks for the vid...and the memories.
I bet it was fun back then! 🤠
Not many people around. Good time to go. Thanks for sharing. 👍
No doubt, best season in years for low numbers of visitors to the park.
Great video, thanks for your awesome content. I last hiked Mystic Falls in 1995. I want to go hiked it again some day. You are the man Park Junkie!
Thanks Jeff! I had never actually hiked it, so it was a really cool stroll. I'll be back up there, as it's just too accessible from the geyser basin. & an absolutely gorgeous waterfall!
These videos will make a difference on my visit to Yellowstone for sure. You are taking the viewers to places that truly show the parks inner beauty!
Awesome, there's a lot to see here... Enjoy your visit!
What a beautiful trail. I can't imagine ever getting bored there. Park Junkie, you just need a granola bar while your sitting up there.
Or a pillow... nap city up there! 😎

Mystic falls is one of my favorite YNP hikes. Last did it in 2014. It’s hard to see, but just above the falls is a small steam vent.

Absolutely Stunning, Mystic Falls. I wonder where everyone is. Great video Mr. Todd.
Thank you Lonesome... The trail was pretty quiet that evening. I probably passed a total of 10 people on the dirt, maybe 30 on the boardwalk.

Great video. Our family is going to Yellowstone in July 2023. I will make an effort to hike to mystic falls.

One of my favorite Yellowstone trails. If your timing is right, you can see some of the geysers going off, including Old Faithful!
