The way Luke describes Hop just sounds like he's a 10 year old, which he is. This is exactly why I hoped for slightly older protagonists.
Or maybe a rival that is actually decent and not have two normal type pokemon in their team (I'm looking at you Hop and your darn sheep!)
@@ZairusKV I've played through the game and i don't recall him having 2 normal Pokémon at any time... I mean the bunny is a fire type. An for all that is worth Hop is a good rival in the late game, he has not always the same team of Pokémon and starts changing at a certain point.

It is not a game for everyone, and a bit slow moving. But Ellen has awesome catching skills

But the joy of Shenmue 3 is that you can experience the same mundane tasks over and over and over again

I know the feels. I did enjoy it on the Dreamcast, with the original. But S3. Yeah it's just a bit more shiny and pretty, but the character designs... Uh. No.
And not much happens. Eventually the story unfolds, it just takes awhile.
Honestly it's more for those who have been with the series since the beginning.
I did enjoy the original, but this series needs to evolve. It is not for everyone. Plus the dialog is off on purpose emulating classic martial arts films.
@@kadosho02 Shenmue 3 was never meant to be a mass market game and that's obvious from all the design and UI throwback features. If you don't like Shenmue as a series the game is probably something you wouldn't like, and it's pretty obvious the lead designer made the game for the fans, not for it to be selling millions of copies. The developers deserve so much respect for that since most other series revivals throw everything out to make it "new" and "better".
Shenmue is like Yakuza if instead of being in the Yakuza the protagonist was a chartered accountant,

In this episode Luke returns from the Bogs, not as a grizzled veteran delivery boy, but as a Pokemon trainer. Or a druid? Close enough.

Xmas challenge inspired by shenmue 3. Got to release 400 chickens into the studio and capture all those pre nuggets before getting evicted for breaking the no animals clause of the rental agreement.

fun fact: the miniseries anime Pokemon Origins that came out in 2013 actually showed like a bit more realistic pokemon battles. Where they actually had a pokemon bite another and the one that had been bitten released this major scream of pain and anguish that shook me to my soul.
They also showed that pokemon do not say their names like in the classic Anime, and that gym leaders choose what pokemon they battle with based on how many badges trainers have when they're faced. Cause they show Brock specifically picking 2 pokeballs out of a grouping of 6. Its a good mini series. You should check it out if you ever get the chance.
At the third attempt, I am pretty sure Ellen was whispering "I am one with the chicken, I am one with the chicken, I am one with the chicken", this could be a new Star Wars movie, "Star Wars: The Chicken Awakens" 😂

I really like the box mechanic in Sword and Shield. They get healed all the way by nurse joy (this is mentioned by a patron in one of the pokecenters later on) and then there’s the pokejobs that keep them busy and also levels them up!

That reminds me of a song from the classic stop motion Christmas movie by Rankin and Bass from 1970 , Santa Claus is coming to Town, called "Put One Foot In Front Of The Other". Almost guaranteed to get stuck in your head shortly after seeing it.

First we're throwing exploding pine cones into a furnace, now we're making glue out of venomous snakes. I cannot help but question the wisdom of these decisions.
Also, the lack of enthusiasm on Ellen's face at the mention of Shenmue was amazing.
Something kind of interesting I've noticed about Pokemon Sword/Shield (will admit, I don't know if some of the prior games have done this as well, but): the protagonist's mother's character design changes based on how you design the player character. In this one, they both have brown hair and eyes, but in another let's play I've seen, they both had silver hair and blue eyes. It's actually pretty clever.
I find splitting fire wood to be quite the enjoyable activity, actually. It's a good work out with plenty of good pain, but repetitive enough that you can get a good amount of contemplation and shelf reflection in at the same time.

You have clearly never had to walk to some landmark a good hour away when the person in charge of your group has no idea how to actually get there. Also, it's the hottest day of the year, you have no water, and the route you end up finding is horribly overgrown and ill-maintained from not being taken by anyone in about 50 years.
The line from Hop's mum got me, she has been preparing for this day since he picked (insert pokemon chosen). And all I could think was, "what, yesterday? Not 10 years ago after he was born in the world of pokemon, not even a couple of years ago when your other son became champion?"

One really funny random thing I found while exploring was a couple of swimmers. You see I just entered the area when your bike gets upgraded to drive over water and it's a really icy area with snow and everything. Then I went around a cliff side and through some ice burgs and there was some little beaches. I started looking for shiny spots and can across a girl and guy under an umbrella with a beach chair and when you talk to the girl she says "welcome to my secret beach!" She continues by saying she doesn't like the crowds and found this beach to be a perfect spot. Meanwhile her boyfriend is just like "..but it's too cold" 🤣🤣 I just laughed for far too long about it. Straight up snowing and they're just chilling in thier baiting suits
I always imagine my pokemon battles are like the anime.
Like when it says th are in a pinch I imaging there like struggling to get up but are just like "I can do this"

To be honest, you don't need to bait much there. You could probably say "kingdom" with something completely different in mind and Ellen would go to either Kingdoms of Amalur (90% chance) or Kingdom Hearts (the other 10%).
Surely we should be referring to that chicken as the King Chicken as it also happens to be a ruler.

For years I've been following this channel and here we are at their first CLIFFHANGER ending!
I have lost count of the amount of times I have said to myself 'Heeheeee!! It's so British!!' And in true British summer style, I arrived at the Wild area, finished the chat with characters, one *singular* foot into the area: DOWNPOUR. XD
Hop: Let me start up a race with you but not leave the cutscene forcing you to watch while I run slightly off screen and disappear, making the possibility of an actual race impossible. xD
I also love that the fox is called Nickit. And that camp is like Nintendogs but Pokemon.
And seeing Sizzlepede which I named Sausages slowly trot after the large jumbo berry ball and somehow put it on her back, before gleefully forever slowly trotting back again is beyond adorable.

Ellen's entire reaction to Shenmue is my reaction to almost everything in life
I remember seeing QI discussing reaction times from an experiment from the Victorian era (I think) and how our reaction times have progressively slowed down the closer to modern times the records go. One of the hypothesis' is that it's because we're (on average) taller now, so it takes the nerve impulses longer to travel.
