    The most frustrating part about the RDR2 quest is that I swear the game actively suppresses the spawn rates of the birds you need for each section. Prior to starting the quest I had tons of feathers from all sorts of birds that I foolishly sold shortly beforehand not knowing they were necessary. But then I’d go out into the swamp and see lots of birds except for the one I need. Eventually I finish that one and start a new list, and now the birds from the old list are everywhere while the ones on the current list are now the rare ones. It was absolutely maddening, next time I play I’m going to look up how many I need and collect them all ahead of time.

      I don't mind the fossil collection because the fossils are worth a good bit of money. I actually delayed really getting started in my game for over a year as I took my time just building money and Nook Miles. Also, work usually burnt me out so I don't play for long. But nearly every day, I did what I called my "chores".
      First, I changed clothes because a new outfit made me feel like it truly was a new day, lol. Then I'd collect all of the weeds, sticks and sea shells. Of I had new crops grow, I picked those, too.While running to each part of the island, I'd dig up the fossils, farm the rocks for bells or minerals, and dig up the daily bag of money.
      After checking for anything in the donation chest in the admin office and getting my daily Nook Miles for using the ABD, I have Blathers assess the fossils and I sold off everything else. I then did whatever few daily assignments I felt like doing and lastly I visited the tailor shop to treat myself to new threads. If up for it, maybe I visited an island to farm resources and maybe do a little bit of home decorating. Otherwise, that was it. I did this from May of 2022 until just here recently in October 2024.
      And as I write this, today I finally did enough for K.K. Slider to visit my island. Now I can finally get going with making real improvements to my island, but I still will keep up with my daily chores.

    I realise that Skyrim's radiant randomised quests probably don't count because...random...but I still occasionally have flashbacks to the time my squishy, low level mage character was asked by the Winterhold librarian to go to a cave and retrieve some rare books. The cave in question turned out to be a sprawling affair infested with Falmer and Chaurus Hunters that made mincemeat of me for the best part of an hour. Eventually got through it and made my way back with the books...sure enough, 50 gold.

    • @Alsebra
      @Alsebra 2 месяца назад +9

      Urag is well-known to be fairly stingy with the gold (mostly because he's a librarian, not an active adventurer)...but I'll still do his quests over other repeatable radiant quests (like the Jarl's bounties); I find it easier to sneak to the boss chest and sneak out instead of having to take out the boss of the dungeon and anyone nearby.

    • @destroyerblackdragon
      @destroyerblackdragon 28 дней назад +2

      I always have trouble with the companions early quests because sometimes Farkas well send me out to hunt vampires or the falmer. The Falmer already creep me out from an aesthetic perspective but they’re blind and easy to sneak past but once combat initiates they can be pretty tough especially at the start of the game. You don’t wanna wander too far off the main path and deal with draguer with ebony weapons or frost trolls.

    One quest in Horizon Forbidden West that wasn't as annoying as collecting all the dog tags but was still one that didn't give a reward that really was worth it was toward the very end of the game when you had to go up a mountain and then collect all the pieces of someone's armor, then have a boss fight against a Stormbird at close range (which made it hard to aim at the thing while it was overhead. Then the next Friday when we were drinkin' some beers, he went off on this rant about how gross it was to be collecting "sexy animal pictures." But at this point you'll also have access to the Light Arrows which cause enemies to drop 50 Rupees when killed by it. So while it is true that the 200 Rupee reward can be farmed repeatedly, you already have a way of easily farming infinite Rupees at this point in the game. So it's like a double useless reward.

Now the weapons I get, because they would have had to design a Demon Slave demon along with a Demon Masquerade form for each weapon (Though for the demons, they could have just used a few extra Bayo 1 & 2 demons), but they wouldn't have had to do that for the outfits. I mean my favorite costume from Bayo 1 & 2 is the Galactic Bounty Hunter costume (You know, the Samus armor), and it would have been awesome to see that in Bayo 3, but no, we sadly didn't get anything like that

    I know this is a commenter's edition, so there's unlikely to be another video on the topic, but I wanted to mention a couple. One is "Kochal" from Mortal Kombat Deception. In Konquest mode, you are told of a demon god named Kochal and you have a quest to awaken him, needing to defeat Black Dragon members Kabal, Kobra, and Kira. People assumed that this meant doing this would cause you to unlock a super secret character, but defeating all three doesn't give you any Kochal at all (not unlocked, as a fight, or even a cameo appearance), but instead some koins. Maybe it isn't the most accurate to the list, since 1000 onyx koins is a good reward, but it's not what one would expect. But as it is, people have since speculated that "Kochal" is an abbreviation for "KOin CHALlenge".
    The other is from my favorite game, which seems to get no acknowledgement out there: Nomad (1993, for DOS, by GameTek). I can't remember the full method to do it, but you have an alien race in the game called the Shaasa, the only ones who your ship can't translate the dialogue of. So, you can go about various missions and can eventually get yourself the Proto Uni Translator, which can finally translate their speech. Well, kind of. It only makes it a little easier to communicate with them, but not really much at all, and by that point you will have progressed to the point where trading with them is a bit pointless. The Shaasa trade in primarily gas and ore, they don't make weapons or equipment to modify your ship, or anything of the sort. Their gas and ore are really only useful to you early, to trade for the better items with others. However, by this point, you are likely to have your own complement of bots to send onto planets, including the Gas-Bot and Ore-Bot, both of which give you all those items you need. Not to mention, you likely have the Arch-Bot and Spy-Bot, which are going to pick up the truly valuable items from planets.

      It's a decent enough game, plays like a single player MMO. One fun thing is how badly you can break the game investing into crafting skills. When I played it on the 360, I had managed to attach so much health regen on my armor that I could take the final boss's ultimate attack on hard and recovered the health by the time the cutscene finished. And on the offensive side, I had made a bow that did massive Fire and Poison damage with additional DoT stacks that would also infect nearby enemies as well as making any enemy that died while burning or poisoned explode for even more damage on anything nearby. Named that weapon "Taco Night".

    The skulltulas have one purpose... or 2 but only in a randomizer. 1 each "skulltula token" can be replaced with something else and 2 the rewards you get for every batch of them can also be random. Be sure to get the correct randomizer though, if you don't you can get many broken saved because it doesn't account for the possibility of success. The good one makes it so you can't be locked out by say needing an item to reach the spot where you get it so progression is impossible, killing your run. A version of this accounted for those things so victory is always possible if you know where everything can drop.

Meanwhile, you spent maybe over half of an in-game day trudging through mud, shadows and creeping around this sleepy farming village to uncover the secrets of both parties just to get... a weird looking hat replete with its own matching wig.
    The hat, in its tall, bright and garish glory, has no status effects. It's not like Algernon's hat from RD2 with just a few feathers in it, this thing has height and color that makes it look like its creator might actually be colorblind.
    Sure you get the Hateno armor shop to be set back up to its previous glory but that only matters if you're missing anything from your inventory and you've got rupees to spare. The only other reward that maybe makes this mission worth doing is an all new ingredient for recipes. The reward for 100 Skulltullas in OoT isn't 200 rupees. It's an infinite quantity of rupees in 200 rupee increments. Just walk back in and talk to the guy again for more...

      Nothing.

    In defense of Ocarina of Time, you get 200 rupees not just once, but every time you talk to that guy after completing the gold skulltula shenanigans. I know that's still useless, but it's a slightly less useless value of useless than completely useless.

    The skultula's quest reward is lame, but there's something you failed to mention: the man will give you a gold rupee EVERY TIME YOU LEAVE AND COME BACK. Effectively, your reward for this quest is an infinite bank account.

    I still get the rage shakes when I think about the "here's the ability to buy a house" shit from Skyrim. Sorry, but sometimes that long string of nonsense that's sometimes level locked JUST to purchase a place? Sounds like a scam to me, man. "Oh cool, I love almost dying, getting lost, and almost dying just to earn the ability to spend money!"

    Echoes of Wisdom needs a mention for Might Crystals: like Korok Seeds, you don't need all of them, but the statue made from the remainder provides a recharge of the energy Zelda uses for Swordfighter form. The kick in the teeth? It requires clearing. Every. Single. Rift. You'd already have the means to restore the energy on the go, so a statue stuck in one spot that restores energy sucks.

    Another Legend of Zelda one can be found in Minish Cap. In that one you have to collect 130 figurines. Which you do by spending blue shells at what is essentially a random drop vending machine. You can pay extra shells to increase your chances of a unique figurine, but shells are a somewhat rare resource. You spend hours doing this beyond what you need to to complete the whole rest of the game. And once you finish your reward is a heart piece (the last one for most players, finally allowing you to make your last heart) and the ability to play the game's music on a record player in Link's inventory.

    In Far Cry 5 there's a terrible side quest you get from a Vietnam vet who asks you to find all the lighters that belonged to his platoon in order to unlock the code to a secret bunker with some mysterious reward, but when you find all of them the only thing in the bunker is some ammo crates. No unique weapons or special gear, just another place to infinitely refill your ammo like any other ammo crate that shows up all over the map.

    A few months ago, Dreamlight Valley had an Inside Out 2 themed event to promote the movie’s release where you had to look around six base game locations looking for hockey trophies, hockey gear, and birthday cakes to unlock memory fragments that would reward you with animal companions based on the new emotions (Anxiety squirrel, Envy rabbit, Embarrassment turtle, and Ennui raven) upon fully completing each memory, along with a fifth reward for finding a hundred memory fragments (any fragments you already got would become coins instead). By the time I completed the fifth task, I had already completed the other four, and I was fully expecting the fifth reward to be an animal companion based on Nostalgia, since there were technically five new emotions in the movie. Instead, the fifth reward was a statue of Lance Slashblade, which I found hilarious, but still wasn’t what I was expecting.

    If I remember correctly, the irony is that one of the rewards is the Stone of Agony/Shard of Agony, which tell you where secret holes are. And some of those secret holes have Golden Skulltulas you need to destroy.

    ESO: (Elder Scrolls Online) I absolutely love the game and will play it until the arthritis in my hands. Gnarls my hands into a perpetual holding the PS controller pose forever. Near the beginning you of the game. You meet Cadwell (voiced by John Cleese) He is at a campfire singing and playing a lute. He is also wearing a stew pot on his head. He turned into a helmet. After beating the main boss. You are given the chance to do Cadwell's quest/adventure. Which is basically completing several quests throughout Tamriel for each of the three Alliances in the game. Complete ALL THREE and as a reward you get........Cadwell's helmet. It has no buff. No power up Nothing. It is literally an old stew pot, turned helmet. On the plus side. Wearing it. Lets other players know. You went through all that to get it.

    In the Skull tula tokens defense:
    1. You get multiple rewards up to the 100 token point.
    2. It's actually infinite money as if you leave and come back he will give you another big rupee.
    3. There is nothing they could give you at that point that would actually be useful.
    Note that these also apply to Hestu's Gift.

    In Animal Crossing, you get another poster for filling up the art collection, which is more tedious than the fossils. Redd only sells 1 real art piece at a time when he comes to your island, and sometimes duplicates of genuine items. It helps to have a guide to find real items, and check your museum if he sells a real piece.

    I remember a lot of games in the early PS3 era that had quests and challenges and such. And most of them were tied to an achievement, but nothing at all in-game. So you put in that work, heard the unlock jingle and maybe got some currency or experience that you could've gotten elsewhere.
