The fact Donny has won the nationals 11 times in 17 years is fucking insane
I don’t think he will win 20 plus races a season anymore but at this point the guy doesn’t have anything left to prove everything else is icing on the cake.

@@bryonkidder6199a lot of good drivers missed the feature, the track wasn’t the best on Wednesday which is why gravel and buddy are in the B Saturday not in transfer spots, it’s what makes the nationals so hard

As a fellow competior in the 1990s, my dad and I met Donny and his dad when he was just starting out following a rainout in a hotel parking lot. I've always admired his journey and the level of success achieved. His interviews have always been candid and educational. Having once been a competitor at Knoxville, I would think that someone just getting out of the car after victory at the Knoxville Nationals would focus on the car, the team and the event. Through the decades I've had nothing but respect for Donny, his family and what he has accomplished. This is the first time I can ever recall a political statement being made in victory lane. It's quite shocking after winning on Hard Knox Night that anyone's mind would go to politics. Regardless of what political party we support (or neither), we can all agree that unfortunately the country has changed in which we all are bombarded with hatred and aggression surrounding politics. Up until now, sprint car racing has always been an appreciated retreat from everyday life. Congratulations Donny Schatz, you've now changed that. Sadly, I went from an admirer these past 30+ years to someone being reminded that even though someone can have amazing abilities being the wheel of a race car, there are character flaws that confirm there are so many others who contribute much more in this world than just being able to drive a race car.
I hope the last thing he said makes it on a t-shirt. You made a lot of ND people 😊there #15! Especially the ones that live on the Red River!

Donny is a huge reason there are many NEW sprint car fans that USED to be sprint car fans , new one as well, because of that motor between his frame rails. Do you know the story of how the canted valve SBF’s were outlawed from the world of OUTLAWS?? That car Donny runs is the reason many of us are now watching or watching again , you think any die hard ford racing fans were watching sprint car racing when there was ZERO ford powered sprint cars , because of the WOO’s stupid favoring? You think there is any MOPAR racing fans watching sprint car racing? Highly unlikely. Some of you that think every car should have the same McDonald’s cheeseburger SBC in them is ridiculous. Might as well make nascar , hell any form of racing , all run the same exact motor. These new ford loyal fans will likely leave the instant that motor does, I know I will, but I still greatly appreciate Donny’s use of it, it’s awesome to see. Apparently most of you don’t want to see the sport to grow.

I’m a small block CHEVROLET fan through and through..but if i remember correctly nearly all the engine builders in the sport were heavy invested in the wedge head format…And it would have put them out of business to allow a canted valve format ..? Do you remember the NHRA PRO STOCK TRUCKS SERIES? WELL I DO AND JACK ROUSH and the ford racers lost to a CANTED VALVE CHEVROLET NICK NAMED LITTLE CHEIF ! These canted valve heads were small versions of the BIG BLOCK HEADS NAMED ‘’ BIG CHEIF’’ ! And by the way jack Roush complained about them also the CHEVERLET SP-2 style also in NASCAR ..Some people still consider the CLEVELAND a big block in a small block package? With comments like that you’ll alienate fans, prevent big sponsors from coming in, keep a great sport off national television, and keep the amazing talent of all our dirt drivers from getting respect and a better easier lifestyle reducing the tireless struggle some great drivers have in these dirt sports. BUTthe biggest one is If we keep bringing politics to the track all it does is keep us from finding the commonality among us, it moves us from friends that disagree but can set it aside and enjoy life together through sport. It really is not hard to just be better to each other.
I was at Fairbury for late models a few weeks ago and talked and enjoyed races with people I did not know. It was very neighborly and enjoyable. Interesting part was politics did not come up just racing. It was a great night and I’ll do it again next year. 👍

Schatz finished fourth in his heat, Dover finished third and didn’t go to scales so he was disqualified and Schatz was handed third place. With the invert Schatz started on the pole in tonight’s A main. Crowd wasn’t very happy
