It's funny how Hammett started out Gary on guitar and now Gary can play circles around Hammett.

Like many people, I have a big love/hate relationship with Metallica. But I still like Kirk. He's not in my top ten guitarists. Or top 30 for that matter. But he's the only reason I still have some semblance of respect to Metallica.

They are about equal Gary smoother and more accurate on his leads than Kirk is these days.

Kirk Hammett is the best Metal Guitarist of all time! He doesn't rely on effects processors and pedals. He never uses the same riffs or sounds. His live playing is second to None! I Love it whe he has his guitar tech purposely keep All his guitars slightly out of tune. That makes it Awesome when Hammett and Hetfield play dueling solo riffs, and it sounds out of tune and sloppy....but in a good way!
***** Darryl would be the first guy to tell you there are better guitar players out there. I'm not saying I know who the "best" is, because it's an art, and art is subjective, just that you can't throw down the Dimebag card as though it's a fact.
Nikki Blakk It's so difficult to say who the best is. Kirk is my favorite, too. Then again, Chuck Schuldiner, Dime, and Randy Rhoads, are better technically, imo. Since Metallica broke my metal virginity in '89, Kirk has always been the man.
there is actually no "best" guitarist. in my opinion, there is always someone who plays better, and we may not have heard them just yet.
