- 2 good dawn patrol sessions on my new Sunova model "Ghost"
After testing this one, I got together with Bert Burger at Sunova to tweak it here and there to maximize its performance and usability.
My new version should be here by early August for testing.... I anticipate that I'll approve the updated version for production.
I will do a full review after I get some video of #2
So many cool details that make this board perfect for so many SUPsters.
I consult with SUPsters all over the world and listen to their needs and conditions... this board was designed to meet our specific needs. Спорт
Yes sir! Looking good!!!
SAM!!!! hey buddy, how are you?
We need to get together sometime!!!
your spot(s) break so perfectly! love watching these videos as i learn myself and observe your footwork etc
Thanks Joe, I feel extremely fortunate to get these summer waves to play on!!!
I am stoked you like them!!!
Really happy to see a new video from the Legend !!! Always nice surf !!!
Thanks MSA, it is awesome to be back on the Cape and having such fun waves again!
Great video, hopefully more to come.
Thanks Beev... yes, I have many in the works now that I have taken a break from rehabing my house.
inspiring, helps to watch your footwork … thanks
Thank Bob, glad it helps you!
You’ve still got it Rick. Keep going buddy always love your clips my favs on all of RUclips 🤙
Wow Chris, that's awesome, thanks!!
Awesome. Great video 🎉
Much appreciated Lance, thanks for the nice feedback!
Cheers my friend ! Great video !!!!!
Thanks OS... much appreciated my friend!
Nice. Congrats Rick. Looking forward to the final results.
Merci Henri, Hopefully it will arrive soon and I will get wavs to give it a good shakedown!!
Good to see you !
Thanks Tommy... I appreciate your positive thoughts!!
Wish we had waves like this on the Gulf FL coast... loving my The One board... but maybe will need a Ghost one day! Thanks for the great videos to go a long with my Monday morning coffee. :)
Thanks 813, I am stoked you are digging your ONE!!
Yes... this board was specifically designed to work well in your local waves as well as in more juice when my breaks step up.
Let me know... I'll set you up when the time comes!
Love seeing the GHOST return! Those waves looked so fun... My size.
Thanks Zoe!
It is a very spectacular board, that should be in production soon!
I am making another video featuring 1 wave from every session since July... the Ghost is in many ☺
Waves have been very consistent all summer at 1 to 3'
Nice to see you gettin’ some, Rick. Hope the renovation went well. 🤙
Thanks Loop... I appreciate the thoughts!
Reno's are moving along slowly and I am glad to be away from them till next winter!
For 32.5" wide that outline profile works really well , sits in the pocket sweet. Nice job Rick must have been fun designing that with Bert.
Thanks Rob, I am stoked to hear from you my friend!
I greatly appreciate your reply on the Breeze.... so I am just letting it sit there until someone else comments.....
having the legend himself jump in on the SUP side will be a nice bit of clickbait for the crew 🤗
Working with Bert is always an eyeopener when you start to understand how much of a total savant he is.... really fun!
Smooth operator!!!
Thanks Sean!!
Its been awhile. So good watching this new video. Deb here queensland australia
G'day Deb, nice to hear from you... it's great to be back in the land of waves again.... and enjoying a pretty steady season so far! Say hi to all the fine folks on the Sunshine coast for me!!
@@rickweeks hi hon. Will do. Its still what we call winter here. Lol. Never gets cold. We have all this week 6ft plus faces due to a weather
Front. Too much for me but we will have winter sliders by nxt week. Wooohoooooo
Even sharks are afraid of ghosts.
That’s a nimble big boy. I’m talking about the board Rick 😂. That second wave you caught was a beauty.
Thanks Marcel... it is designed to be fast and nimble, and still be stable enough for a big old bloke like me!
Nice video Bud. Those looked like the waves I surfed this morning dawn patrol in Sandbridge, so the Ghost would have served well. 😎
Be well my friend and see you soon.
Johnny (aka sustenance)
ha ha... when I saw Sandbridge, I said "Johnny!!"
I almost called you earlier today... didn't know you were south side... see you when you return!
Hey Rick, nice to see you back at it and with a potential new board for me. Looks like a nimble little thing although i know that footwork of yours can make most any board dance. Those waves look similar to DI today only 2×bigger and no shark warning.
I've gotta email you soon and pick your 🧠 about a 2 board quiver, im taking a long travelling holiday down south and across the bottom to west Aus 🏄🏻♂️ and ill need the right tools
Hi Kingsley, great to hear from you my friend!!
I was just writing to someone about DI... how cool to check in here and see your comment!
The feet are not as nimble as they used to be, and that is the reason for this new board....
It has design features to help me look more nimble than I am!! 🤗
look forward to discussing a travel quiver with you!
glad to view your latest video again!
Hi SUP on.... thank you, it is nice to be back on the water again after too much time dedicated to rehabbing my house!!
@@rickweeks we also need to see your house video too. :))) before and after
@@suponsports8144 Before actually looks better than after 🤣
3 months of demo and rebuilding the structure didn't leave any budget for finishing, but that's ok... I got the base solid, it gets better from here!
@@rickweeks with solid foundation, you will not go wrong; just a matter of time. :)
Very good, you know that I love your videos and in fact I dedicated my first waves to you, I would like to ask you if it is possible to activate or put subtitles in Spanish since my English is not good and I would like to find out everything you say, for me it is aspiration and I want to enjoy like you in the sea surfing and routes until my last days🫶🤙🏽🌊🏄🏽🏄♀️😊
gracias 5851, esto es muy apreciado, ¡eres muy amable!
tu ingles es mucho mejor que mi español 🙂
Veré si puedo averiguar cómo agregar subtítulos, pero nunca lo había intentado antes.
Still crusin at 75 good onya Ricky 🤙
Thanks Dave, I am super stoked that I am still able to do this and never take it for granted... such a gift to still be wet and happy!! SUP is a great surf life extender 😊
Those are some nicely shaped waves and ridden well. Made me want to get out myself, heading out now.
Is this footage gotten using the Soloshot3 Optic65?
Thanks Mark!
I hope your session is fun and the waves are good!
Yes... SoloShot3 optic65 camera used.
I have had this one for several years now and it is serving me well.
No recent updates... just found a method that makes it calibrate properly.
Toujours de bonnes vagues et pas trop dangereuses.
Always good waves and not very dangerous.
75 / 5,000
Merci fab, Summer est généralement plutôt docile. Aujourd'hui, c'était un peu plus puissant 😊
@@rickweeks Donc, un peu plus sportif !
So a bit more sporty!
@@fabfaco8271 yep... that time of year 🙂
Hi Rick good to see you out again hows the house renovation going
Thanks Duc... the renovations tried to kill me but were unsuccessful, and I am glad to put down the tools for 6 months and back to full time surfing. The house will be a backseat item from now on... I will never leave the surf for that long again!! 😊
@@rickweeks I'll have to make a few more trips your way this winter so you have to put the tools down a little more
Looking good. A bit more stable than the Flow?
Thanks Ogre, That's much appreciated!
Yes! Way more stable than the Flow IMO
I always struggled on my 9'0 Flow V2 even at 215 lbs.... the step rails just gives it an extra tippiness that kinda wears me down quicker.
My 9'4 Flow V2 has been my go-to ever since I got a set of Quobba fins for it.
Didn't really surf it well with any other fin setup, so I rarely made videos of it.
The day I put the Quobba's on changed it into my most used board.
Still haven't tried the Quobba's on my 9'0 Flow because I am up to 243 lbs at the moment and there's too many Great Whites around to be falling over all session.
But I am totally comfortable at my current weight on my 9'1 Ghost!
My next one will be the 8'10 Ghost, so I better find a way to drop some weight soon 🤐
@@rickweeks you're making very difficult for me to stay with just 2 boards my friend. 😉
Every time another surfer on Sunova approached me in a water and seeing I'm Sunova too I always get following question: did you get it from Rick? :) Happy to see new videos ! And tbh I thing you can ride a piece of plywood with the same elegance and style :)
Thanks Kirill.... how the heck are you?!?!
Been too long my friend!
I hope you are getting some of these waves in your local!
@@rickweeks Life is good Rick! Moved a bit up north from the place you saw and now enjoy Nahant beach as my new local spot. Congrats on your winter home! Don't know where you are but if its' drivable distance from Boynton beach happy to give you a hand if you still working on it during Xmas break - would be a great excuse to escape the family :D
@@kirill_gusev Nice, more waves for you!
I am 2 hours north, near Melbourne.... be great to see you and have some help! ☺
Nice! How’s your remodel going?
Thanks Peter... slow and interesting but running out of money, so the reno's will go as I can afford them from now on.
Better for my surf life, so I have adjusted to living in a never finished project!
If you need another test pilot, let me know. I’d love to give the Ghost a try.
Hit me up when you are here... saddle up the Ghost!
Hey Ric. Can you share any characteristics of the ghost. Just about to add a Flow or Placid to my Speed and Creek but would love something like a Flow with triple concave for our local fluffy waves. Cheers
email me at
supthecreek@gmail.com
I am not going to make a certain design feature public till I do a full review of my updated version.
It is quite different from the norm.... and it works so freaking well!!!
@@rickweeks will email. Thanks for the reply.cheers John
big👍
Many thanks 🤗Tora!
in your opinion is a sup bam bam 10foot6 board surfable?
Hi Reek, Could you please tell us what is your paddle lenght for supsurfing ? Do you change paddle lenght regarding the different board volume you use ? I'm asking because i used an adjustable paddle but it takes always a bit of water inside during a session, so i plan to move toward a fix paddle.
Hi MrConfo
I use 1 fixed length paddle for every board, surf or flatwater. From 8’3 to 14’, same paddle.
I have 4 paddles cuz you gotta have backups, but they are all basically the same length
4” over my head
Many will disagree saying that is too long for surfing but I never have issues throwing it around and I find it perfect.
One reason I keep it longer than some is because I rely on the blade maintaining contact with the water when I am standing around outside.
It’s also fine for me on flatwater. My usual session paddle is generally at least 6 miles and my paddles are great on those outings.
Definitely follow your gut and get a good Carbon paddle…. you will never regret it and it will blow you away when you take your first paddle with it.
I am very convinced that a narrower blade is much easier to catch waves with because my stroke improved significantly when I went to a 6.5” wide blade.
A good paddle will be with you for many years, while boards come and go.
Good luck in your search. Always go with whatever handle, shaft thickness and blade width the feel right to you…. everyone is different, so don’t let anyone “sell” you a paddle until you are happy with it!! 🤗
@@rickweeks Hi Reek, Thanks for your answer. I full agree with you about the importance of a good paddle, my first sup experience was on an old windsurfer from the 80's, and i'm sure i've been convinced by sup because i tested it with a good carbon paddle, if not, maybe i would not be in that sport. I use 3" over my head for surfing (1,80m) on a 9'6x27,5x118 liters (I'm 1,73m), but i feel i could go shorter to improve 2 situations : going over front white waves and most important for me, trying to be more flexy on my legs during the take off. When it's a bit choppy, as the balance is a bit touchy on this board, i note that i should flex more my legs in surf position just before the take off, i note that my paddle is a bit too long in this situation, also for the changing sides from hand to hand when turning on surf. As you said, i like the fact to keep the paddle in water for stability in the waiting period, i use to close my bottom hand on my hip to make a pivot point also. For flat water, i use a bigger board (10'3x28,5x145 liters) with more lenght paddle around at least 4" over my head. My actual adjustable paddle is a Select Session with a narrow blade, which i feel very confortable, but i note also than i could increase a bit the blade size as i feel a bit more confortable to paddle harder. Full convince it's just matter of personal preference. I plan to test a fixed (1,73m-0" over my head) end of august, i'll share the experience. Out of the lenght choice, i'm very curious to experiment the flexibility reaction and "purity" of a fixed. If you've heard about carbon or carbon/kevlar adjustable paddle that not take any water inside when surfing, i'm curious, because i doubt this baby really exists, maybe i'm wrong.
What camera do you use to follow you while surfing?
Hi Jerry
I use a SoloShot3 Optic65
It takes a bit to unlock the setup secret so it follows me, but well worth it when it works!!!
How does this differ to the Creek?
Hi SHQ, how is the SHQ crew doing?
You guys rock!!!
The Ghost is a very different design, with a very targeted objective.
Really no similarities to the Creek except they are both good boards.... I didn't take anything from the Creek, until Bert threw on the rounded diamond tail.
I have always been a fan of the diamond tail, so it stayed.
I'll try to give a explanation of the design goals... but honestly, it sounds like a fairytale.
I wanted a performance board that would help me rip as I age.
To achieve that I had to eliminate any "sticky bits" that come with some performance boards.
At the same time, I wanted to create a board with mass appeal, to suit all the people that contact me for recommendations.
In my board consultations with people all over the globe, there is a reoccurring theme among a vast number of SUPsters
Most are interested in easy surfing on small to medium size low power waves but most require stability.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Some highlights:
The tail has a hard edge to the front fins and relatively low rocker for quick release and instant speed in low power waves.
But, I also wanted it to suit my waves on Cape Cod, which get very good.
Working in multiple, long design sessions with Bert Burger, we approached each feature and how to work it in with the rest of the shape.
For example, I have issues on boards over 9' with step rails or pointy nose...
I am a big guy, so I am not turning from the kick pad, I am more driving a rail turn... sometimes the nose rail will dig in too hard and dump me.
So the nose is specifically designed for ease of use on boards over 9' with a forgiving nose profile with easy entry, and no hangups on the shoulders or rail.
I asked for the Flow rails, without the step and somewhat more pinched than the Flow, if we only eliminated the step.
The hips are are widish and tweaked for snappy turns that carry easy speed through linked turns like a cutback situation, similar to what I love about the SP25.
The rocker is built for speed and easy entry, very slight V and minimal concave.
The tail is designed with easy release to allow the board to "follow" the rider in low power situations, like a cutback when the wave softens... it will stay powered up through the turns
The biggest feature of this board is so different and cool, that it will go unmentioned until I do a full review (after I get the update version)
All I will say, is it is changing the way I surf, the way I approach waves, as I learn how much is possible on this board.
I am realizing that I can suddenly do so much more than I have with any other board... and I have had them all.
And the beauty of it is..... it will suit people from young rippers to first time surfers
All the tweaks that made it work for me, have translated to easier for everyone, at any level or any size.
Like I said.... sounds like a fairytale ☺
Proof will be coming soon!!
Whatcha going to do…… pull in the nose a little and thin out the rails then put the lost foam Bac in the middle?
Nose shape stays the same, but a tad thinner with slightly flatter nose rocker to ease into waves faster.
The rails get a bit more pinched and the hips trimmed a bit
The tail is super fast and loose, so that is the bread and butter along with an interesting treatment of fins.
*PromoSM* 😘
