Her performance will stand the test of time. It's already listed by Total Film (a film publication) to be one of the best of all time and yet another example of this actress's genius. Cate is such a brilliant actor her performances transcend awards at this point.
Q: Did you like I'm Not There? A: Yeah, I thought it was all right. Do you think that the director was worried that people would understand it or not? I don't think he cared one bit. I just think he wanted to make a good movie. I thought it looked good, and those actors were incredible.
Ppl need to watch the Special Features and see what this movie actually is based on before watching it. Otherwise, I would never have understood and just been confused. Once I knew that each character reflected a piece of Dylan's life or the fictions he used to tell the press, it was perfectly clear! I loved it. I suppose a true die-hard Dylan fan would get it because they know his history and would recognize the stories.
So I just finished wataching the movie... I wasn't sure what to expect going in... I thought that these different actors, Ledger, Bale, Gere, Blanchett were going to actually portray Dylan but now im realizing that they are portraying people that Dylan wanted to be, people that inspired him. I have to watch it again cause i'm still unsure of some things, but I liked it.
I must say that i love this movie and i am a HUGE fan of heath ledger but i believe that cate was better in this movie. She was the best of them all but everybody is really good in it. I don't understand why people don't like the movie! It's brilliant!
I LIKE THE BOX!! it keeps life simple! If more people thought inside of the box, then there wouldn't be so many problems and quarrels!! Why EVEN have a box if you're just going to stay outside of it!! LEAVE THE BOX ALONE!! Just stay inside of the box!! The box ensures that everything is kept in order!! Just stay inside of the box!!!
"Paris, Sweden, Stockholm and England...?" Um, last time I checked Stockholm was the capitol of Sweden. Has been for some time. Research? And I recently saw an BBC documentary about worldwide architecture. I quote "In one of the smaller cities of Sweden we find the Turning Torso" end quote. Turning Torso is located in Malmö which is the 3rd largest city in Sweden. And while I'm at it, Sweden don't have polar bears walking the streets, not many are blond and very few are named Inga or Sven.
With respect,Ray Charles and Johnny Cash were not as enigmatic as Dylan who is an incredibly complex and multi-faceted man who continues to develop and evolve with time, he has eluded just about every attempt to really understand who he is or compartmentalise his style, values and character-it's almost a life-long game to him which is why this brave attempt at depicting his many identities has met with such mixed feelings. To cover so many personas with one actor would have been nigh impossible.
I can't really concentrate on this video because, outside my window there are several leaf blowers blowing.... always blowing, even when it doesn't need it.
@missZiggy549 We've got over 200 of them from what I just googled. The Swedish definition to what may or may not be called a city. Maybe the American definition of a city is different than the Swedish one. However I just found it funny to call Swedens third largest city "one of the smaller cities". Maybe I'm wrong, if so I will stand corrected.
I think many (NOT ALL) Americans think the words "British" and "English" are interchangeable, but I'm aware that they're not. So many people over here say things like, "I love your British accent," when there really is no such thing. English people are British, but so are people from Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, though I'm sure I don't have to tell you this. But I'm American, and I recognize the difference.
She does a better impression of Dylan than Joan Baez does. Have you heard Joan? For all her closeness to Dylan and all that touring she did with him, her 'impression' comes across as more of a parody. While Dylan may've gotten into Joan Baez, Kate Blanchett got into the soul of Bob Dylan.
Personally, I like the box, it's cosy and warm with plush chairs and an open fire. the outside of the box is cold and harsh with swedish furniture that doesnt work properly and its awkward to sit in. I'm all for new ideas, but the box is comfy, although there is limited oxygen outside of the box and if you go to far from the box then you start to hallucinate and odd things start to happen, and pretentious shit is created, I believe that Gus Van Sant was actually conceived outside the box..
@Toasttoastingfingers But so does the entire northern Europe, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Poland, Latvia, Estonia etc. So, no I think it's more based from fiction, movies, tv, bad jokes and prejudice, like Swedish blonde James Bond babes or some celebrities coming from Sweden that just happened to "be" blonde.
He was awesome in this world and especially awesome as Bob Dylan during his electric period which was very much a Bob Dylan of that time and a Bob Dylan we would never get a again. I remember when this film came out some critic or music writer had said and I truly agree with this something along the lines of that during this electric period Dylan was taking a lot of LSD and uppers since he was touring a lot and he was never more thinner and more bitter and critiquing in his music and they're almost This feminine look to him since he was so thin at that time. It seem like he was pretty much smoking drinking making music and maybe eating a little He didn't have time for much else. Kate blanchett being one of the best actors there is completely captured this Dylan and had one of the best performances in this movie and that saying something because I'd loved everyone they picked for Bob Dylan I thought this movie did a very good job of capturing the different spirits and different looks and different personas that Bob Dylan has had over the years.
@mrErikLundgren But then again, to be honest, Sweden DOES have a much higher rate of blonde people that, say, Spain. With that in mind, you can understand where the "everyone-is-blonde-myth" comes from.
@Redbullgiveswgs11 Yeah, you're welcome. I'm such a smart fella! Just had to express myself. But I honestly did not mean to sound like a smart-ass. It's a very Swedish thing to do. To point out that all those common prejudices about Sweden are wrong.
I gotta an idea for a Hollywierd director-----Gerard Depardieu in the life story of Jackie Kennedy Onassis or how about Sly Stallone in The Sarah Palin Story ! Hee !
I love Cate...I thought she should've won Best Supporting Actress for I'm Not There. Strangely enough, I didn't much care for her performance in The Aviator (for which she did win Best Supporting Actress)
I agree!! They made fantastic films and cast the best actors for the job for walk the line and ray! The actors captured what the Legend was about. In this film they really just kinda took the piss, and by adding a woman, in sunglasses, a perm and sore throat done NO justice to the movie. I felt it was a sad attempt at making a potrayal of Dylan's life and they really wasted time, when someone in the near future could make a fantastic movie about him and actually CAPTURE what he was all about.
fuck, the narrator got some many facts wrong. At the height of his folk movement? Martin Scorsee-see. No Direction Home were press conferences ? WTF!?!??!
I love Cate so much. She is absolutley brilliant in this film, and in everything she does.
Cate should have won the Oscar for this performance
Cate blanchett was incredible in this movie. She just totally embodied him and evoked so much emotion.
Oh my god!! The woman doing the voice-over has a voice like a kazoo!!
LOL
I think that if she entered a contest on who could imitate Dylan best and Bob Dylan himself entered there'd still be a fair chance of her winning.
Doubt it
Her performance will stand the test of time. It's already listed by Total Film (a film publication) to be one of the best of all time and yet another example of this actress's genius. Cate is such a brilliant actor her performances transcend awards at this point.
Damn, she's so fucking beautiful.
+CitySkin09 She is PERFECT....
Cate is a versatile actress and the best in the businees
Cate was stunning in this - deserved more credit than she got. Great movie, incredible performance.
I watched this film because of my mom's respect for Bob Dylan and me being a fan of Heath, but to me Cate was the best in this
Cate is the best in any role
cate blanchett is so beautiful.. it's so amazing how much she really does resemble dylan in the movie; i never would have thought!
SHe was completely fabulous!! I giver her a Double 10!
She MURDERED that performance! My favorite actress along w/ Tilda Swinton. ^_^
she did a stand up imitating him once before she was famous - thats why they've chosen her for the role
you guys gotta be kidding. she`s absolutely perfect in this film.
I didn't like that movie but she was amazing. She nailed all of his nuances.
one of the best movies ever
HA! - yes she was great! She is actually my favorite actress!
I so agree she is beautiful.
she is friggin flawless
Bob Dylan doesn't care about this movie. You know, typical Bob Dylan, doesn't care about anything.
Q: Did you like I'm Not There?
A: Yeah, I thought it was all right. Do you think that the director was worried that people would understand it or not? I don't think he cared one bit. I just think he wanted to make a good movie. I thought it looked good, and those actors were incredible.
The best bob dylan portrayed in that movie
Cate is a wonder of nature.
Oh my, so many actors i admire in this film...can't wait to see it!
god, she is fucking amazing. this film will rule.
Ppl need to watch the Special Features and see what this movie actually is based on before watching it. Otherwise, I would never have understood and just been confused. great movie, great actors, but blanchett blew me away here, im an actriss and her performance here is so inspiring. =)
I must say that i love this movie and i am a HUGE fan of heath ledger but i believe that cate was better in this movie. She was the best of them all but everybody is really good in it. I don't understand why people don't like the movie! It's brilliant!
they play people based on dylan i think
@34thStreetHoodNigga2 it was to show that dylan was somewhat fem in style in the stage of his fame that she plays, I read. Wooo
A woman played him a little black boy played him that was the point he is everyone and no one.
It's funny that she talks about escaping the physical, because she does exactly the same thing.
"Paris, Sweden, Stockholm and England...?" Um, last time I checked Stockholm was the capitol of Sweden. Has been for some time. Research? Cate Blanchett.
Is there any role she couldn't do?
Love ya Cate!!
Dylan's son Jakob would played the young Bob brilliantly.
Look at the overlaps in the discography between Bob Marley and Bob Dylan between 1970-1983
With respect,Ray Charles and Johnny Cash were not as enigmatic as Dylan who is an incredibly complex and multi-faceted man who continues to develop and evolve with time, he has eluded just about every attempt to really understand who he is or compartmentalise his style, values and character-it's almost a life-long game to him which is why this brave attempt at depicting his many identities has met with such mixed feelings. @missZiggy549 Well then, I stand corrected. And thank you for that comment, my songs are free for download if you want them.

I love it how she say, Paris, Sweden, Stockholm and London...cause Stockholm is a country!
She does a better impression of Dylan than Joan Baez does. Have you heard Joan? For all her closeness to Dylan and all that touring she did with him, her 'impression' comes across as more of a parody.
While Dylan may've gotten into Joan Baez, Kate Blanchett got into the soul of Bob Dylan.
next step: Cate Blanchett playing Mick Jagger.
why not?
Personally, I like the box, it's cosy and warm with plush chairs and an open fire.
the outside of the box is cold and harsh with swedish furniture that doesnt work properly and its awkward to sit in.
I'm all for new ideas, but the box is comfy, although there is limited oxygen outside of the box and if you go to far from the box then you start to hallucinate and odd things start to happen, and pretentious shit is created, I believe that Gus Van Sant was actually conceived outside the box..
yeah I know, thats why its funny...called sarcasm, I know I shouldnt be using it infront o ppl thayt don't understand it. ..
It sound like a bad high school announcement..!oh yeah she's amazing.1

Ballad of a Thin Man
@probateflower You do realise that Dylan approved the movie?

"NO"
not "Maggie's Farm", "Ballad of a Thin Man".
What drug is the narrator on? Fark!
Manifesto
@AntiGDYB I guess you didn't watch the movie.. all of the main characters are Bob Dylan.
It sound like a bad high school announcement..!
I agree!! They made fantastic films and cast the best actors for the job for walk the line and ray! The actors captured what the Legend was about. This is far and away the most bizarre thing on RUclips...
Why not choose Gary Coleman to be Bob Dylan while we're at it?
She probobly means that when she listn to Bob Dylan, is that all the emotion she feels, I don't know!

@noapologiesnoregrets i agree
The person doing the voiceover sounds like she has a grade three reading level. Or is she just really high. Wtf.
but they do all wear horned hats and ride around in longboats
There's no way us guys could understand?
Then why don't you just zip it, man?
Split personality disorder is not the same thing as schizophrenia.
Since when? It's a capital of Sweden.
im amazed that Dylan let a woman play him in this film
fuck, the narrator got some many facts wrong.
At the height of his folk movement? Martin Scorsee-see.
No Direction Home were press conferences ?

australian*
anoying voice,
great film
Even though I find her remarks sort of peurile, there is no question she played an amazing Dylan.
It doesn't give a shit what Bob thinks about the movie. It matters if you liked it. Bob Dylan never cared and he never will. Get real pylinth.
hahaha stockholm is IN Sweden
