In this edition of Horizon Insider, Hangar 9 Product Developer Ali Machinchy outlines various tips/tricks regarding the ironing process on any ARF/Kit plane covered in UltraCote®. Step #1... use a wet cloth to clean the surface!! Scratches can happen with the sock if there is dust/dirt on the covering!!

Very nice and infornative. Tried it once on a eflite funtaba. The wings wore warped afterwards... I used a iron to get the rimples out. So never did it again.

Excellent tutorial guys! I've been using Ultracoat for a few years now and find it very forgiving.

The salient points are well illustrated and really good for those that are tackling a covering job for the first time. I have a Hangar 9 AT6 Texan, Missappropriation of Funds which I added a fair amount of scale detail to. The film just aft of the wing fillets on the bottom has lifted. Any advice on how to repair this as it is concave at that point and not sure how to tackle the repair? I can forward some pics.

You should have those Asian workers make a bamboo cross bow kit! You could sell thousands of them!!!

Ali do a video on balsa prep prior to covering. Many out there don't know what is involved with prep, I have seen many sand and go right to covering and not even blow the dust off.

Can you do a covering video where you cover a plane rather than remove sags?

Ali, this was almost my first ARF, Is it possible that the wing can warp while shrinking the Ultracote? That's my main concern I'm afraid that the ribs can be pulled more to one side when trying to hit in between the ribs? That's the whole reason why I haven't tackled it yet I don't have this exact model. I have the cubcrafters xcub 60 with a SaitoFG-61TS twin IC. But it has nowhere near as many wrinkles as the one in this video it's just the main wing on the top everything else looks great, other than the ceiling edges like you explained in this video is what I have done so far.
It's already been in the air flies amazing especially on floats with my fpv head tracker so fun on the flying in small Canyons running the Spektrum ix12 with TBS Crossfire and as well as a vector why controller with GPS wish I saved my butt many times lol. Anyway you can ignore the rest of this nonsense I was just like an answer on working the wing is it possible to warp it?
    Thanks!
    Rob

Great video guy's! That's a really good point he made about where they're made and the journey across the ocean. Those trips across the sea's can be really rough on things..those containers aren't air tight and that saltwater air isn't very forgiving.

Hello Horizon, I recently picked up an ancient giant scale Hangar 9 Fairchild Pt19 that had a brutal crash and the aircraft is almost damage free considering it went nose in. it has a really sturdy construction. I haven't been able to find the propeller and fuel tank size or the color of ultracote for the wing. I think it is standard yellw but I am not sure would you happen to know.

Once this streak of messy weather passes. It has either been brutally cold with calm winds OR warm with 20+ mph winds!
