      t raven Sepak Takraw literally translates to 'kick ball' or some calls it Kick Volleyball, a sport originated from south-east asia, 'sepak' is a malay word which means 'to kick', while 'takraw' is a thai word which means something like 'woven ball', because of it being played with a woven rattan ball.. the sport is LIKE a combination of football(due to the rules of no touching the ball with hand when game commence) & volleyball with a little tinge of semi-martial arts skill put into it.

    Dont make it sounds overly complicated. This is a game based sport, its suppposed to be fun not scary.
    1. No, you dont need to do acrobatic. A simple header is enough to get you a score.
    2. No, you dont need to do tae kwon do for the serve. A simple kick with your inside foot is enough to move the ball from your field to the other side.
    3. No, you dont need to link your hands together for celebration. You can choose your own badass celebration as you like.
    Remember that this is a game, so have fun.

    • @myrusEW
      @myrusEW 4 года назад +8

      Few reasons.
      Main one; injuries. This is an insanely injury prone sport. Like. I can't tell you how vulnerable all of this is. Doing a backflip and landing sideways on your knee is a recipe for a short career. There's no way to make this safe without taking away the whole spectator appeal of it.
      Second...Westerners are generally a bit taller. Like by a lot. The net is 5 ft. If you're 6'0, tell me how you're going to be able to get good leverage to kick the ball at 5'? Well, you aren't. Your leverage isn't there. Basically the taller you are, the less power you kicks are going to be, the slower you're going to be, the less flexible you're going to be(debatable). Being taller severely lowers your efficiency at this game. Also being taller makes this injury prone sport even more injury prone. Notice how basketball players get lots of injuries and they often just jump up and down, and forward.

    This game is from Malaysia but Thailand is dominating this game. Basically there are 3 player per side and have three difference role. First, the "Tekong" who is taking serve. Second, the feeder the player who is setting the ball to the third player which is killer aka spiker. There is a new way to playing Sepak Takraw which only two player play per team. Their rules is same but it serve at the back of the court just like volley ball.

      Interesting. Here in Malaysia we are 'forced' to learn and play this game. But most of time, during PE, back when I was in primary school. we played football instead because it can be played by the entire class, enough students to make 2 teams.
      The problem is, in most school, not every PE teachers can play this game, therefore it is hard for them to teach students how to make a strike for example. But still most schools, or at least at my school, most kids play in the evening, part of their extra-curiculum activities ( example Sepak Takraw club)

    THIS IS TRADITIONAL GAME FORM MALAYSIA - Before they make this game to the world game, the traditional Malays game are will play for the circle. 3 peoples to 6 peoples are common in a circle. In this village game, one has to weigh no more than 3 times and has to send it to other players for a rotating count of up to 100 times. If any player fails to weigh the ball and falls. The player will leave the court. They will continue to play until the last one survives. That person is considered the winner. To make it even more dramatic and more challenging in one game, they added some techniques and tactics into a great game. It needs to have 3 players going to face 3 players and they use some rules and some dangerous and confusing kicking features for the purpose of beating the opponent. This makes this traditional sport better known as "SEPAK TAKRAW" and is now known around the world...

    I'm from the Philippines and this sport used to be our national sport. I've never played the sport myself but i don't think it is as hard as people think it is. The net is relatively short so it shouldn't be that hard to hit the ball to the other side.

      Thing is there a lot of compatision and even more popular sports like baseball have problem entering olympics which is already super packed. Look on World Games which features sports that are not in olympics, IOC have patrionige over them and use it as test event for potential new sport for olympics, this sport is not even there, i first find out about it here, so getting to World Games should be first step to get to olympic, it probably take few decades thru go get in to olympics ;p
