    I’m a sales rep for McKee foods and they are a great company to work for! Interesting story but if you look at modern day packaging ,the hat that little Debbie has on has a crease in it on the bill on the top left ( her right)side. it has this crease because the day OD McKee hired a photographer to take her pictures she threw a temper tantrum and threw her hat on the ground and stomped it which caused the crease, she didn’t have another hat so she just wore that one and you can still see that crease today on the packaging

    I live in Collegedale, Tennessee where McKee's headquarters is located and my dad worked there for almost 40 years before he retired several years ago. For the past several years, the McKee plants have been going through expansion and upgrades but this only happened after years of the company's tax accountants and others trying to convince Michael McKee that they had money on hand to do so beyond the tax benefits. That's how conservative the company's approach to money is.

      @mattries37315 3 года назад +69

      @@grandinosour They weren't regulating their expansion to please the tax man, spending money to expand and or upgrade facilities is actually a tax deduction. The company could have been paying less taxes for years, but Michael McKee didn't want to risk things going overbudget and potentially going into debt even with the tax breaks the company would receive. However given the company's cash reserves the chances were slim to none that would have happened.

In many circles that might be mocked, and ridiculed because it's not flashy and hip, but I can openly say it's worked for me. The other day I was replying to a question about where to vacation for a anniversary. My suggestion was to save the money and pay off debts. You would have thought I was advocating for the devil or something. My niece who proposed the question appreciated it, not many others did. Especially given the year we have gone had to live, propping up many around me because they are in such insane debts and out of work, saving I thought would have sounded great, Woe is me. Little Debbie's Nutty Bars are one of my favorite snack foods. They're always pretty cheap, last a decent while before going stale, and go quite well with coffee or hot chocolate, or even just plain milk.
    I might be wrong on this but as far as I'm aware Hostess doesn't seem to have an equivalent.

My friend and I would buy them and take a piece of them and roll them between our hands, maybe add a little water or milk... they looked like perfect little turds like a cat turd or something. We would then put the brownie turds in the change slot of the vending machines. We would then wait and watch people stick their hand in to get their change and grab a "turd." 70% of the time they would get grossed out and leave their change, which we would take and buy more brownies and repeat. Thanks Little Debbie !

    Years and years ago I worked at a convenience store. One day there was a letter taped to the Little Debbie display. It was from the President of the company apologizing for the coming price increase. People kinda shrugged the letter off because sooner or later everything goes up in price. But it made an impression on me that the President of the company wrote such a letter of apology but also made it clear that this was the first price increase in 16(?) years. To me that was pretty impressive.

    • @MrMattumbo
      @MrMattumbo 3 года назад +1

      Given how long they struggled themselves to build their company it makes sense they'd feel a lot of empathy for people struggling with money, hence feel compelled to keep prices as low as possible and actually feel bad about raising them knowing the impact it could have on those people. Stuff like that makes me wish more companies could remain private, family-owned establishments so that sort of human emotion can show through, but of course even then it only takes a few generations for humble roots to be forgotten and the desire for a relative improvement in lifestyle (and thus wealth) to push the company down the same path as any publicly owned corp.

    I love Little Debbie, I'm from Mexico, but since I live south of Texas we have HEBs here, and they sell a few American brands, imported from Texan HEBs, so since I can remember I have bought Little Debbie's brownies, zebras and other cakes, and I go to the US of A often, so I buy them there too. So I have a lot of nostalgia and love for that brand. But I just got to the part where you said Little Debbie is cheap, and here that isn't really the case, I mean, I just checked, and Zebra Cakes are at like $1.92 in the USA, while for me they're at like $4. I suppose since it's an imported product. Anyway, it was just a fun thing I noticed. I would definitely say I prefer Little Debbie over Hostess, but I would still buy from Hostess once in a while when I'm in the states.

It's also sometimes used to encourage buying again because you're "forced" to dispose of the product you didn't consume.

    Little Debby cakes are often certified kosher, while Hostess never is. As a kosher consumer, my family never has had Hostess. I’m glad they go through the process to certify and make their products available.

    Little Debbies are far better, the hostess are always sugar overkill no matter what it is, and overly artificial tasting.

      @@nedimvelic2610 When did I ever say that? No, just less artificial tasting. Artificial doesn't equal healthy, neither does natural equal healthy. Also the way something tastes doesn't denote the makeup of it's ingredients. My statement was entirely literal, nothing more to take from it than what I typed. :)
