that design is pretty sick, i'd say it would be worth a new kit with the kind of engineering we can get nowadays. Hell, even a Real Grade, even if that may not work aesthetically
Nostalgia, no joke coming across the Beginning Gundam shorts did get me into doing the hg line, ironically the Red Beginning was my first. And yes I do agree about the design being a bit shoddy, but hey look how far that has gone, we have the build fighters and build divers series.
I'm completely on board with this Gio San Pedro-style segment in the reviews now I am once again asking you to review the Ver ANIME GM Cold Districts Type
Well that was a bit dissapointing, I honestly fell in love with the design! I hope Bandai will remake this kit some day, because I'd love to have it then. On the good note, the show seems to be pretty neat! I like the idea of your Gunpla's power matching the care you took when assembling it, might have to give it a try.
Custom notes- The GM type C line of kits are likely some of the closest you are going to get for a kit bash. And even that has a saner hip set up (still uses funky polycaps, but it uses a cap that accepts normal pegs)The type C also has the weird arm/shoulder pegs to connect to the beginning gundam arms. It doesn't have balls, but I think you can still peg based balls off of the ballden arms kits from the build custom series. The ballden arms kits are a great investment in general for customizers, since the subarms are made up of joints that I've seen turned into inner frames to remodel the real arms on trash kits like the HG tristan. T he "balls with pegs" also come with "cups with pegs". If you "implanted" the cup part into the shoulder of this thing, you could give this kind of kit normal ball joint shoulders. That is at the level of gunpla surgery though. Still, Ballden has a lot of parts that you can play with in order to work around things. It is basically just a set of spare parts assembled into subarms to look more intersting
Sidenote- I ahve tried to use the ballden joints in an attempt to give my Diver Ayame a cyborg arm. Sadly, the size wasn't quite right. Also, that kit luckily ccomes with a spare torso that I can test things on. Teh shoulder joints on that are regular plastic, and the sizes didn't exactly match up, which you KNOW would mess up a shoulder joint and make it loose.
The wing gundam kits and their variants (wing zero honoo and fenice) have ball-to-peg adaptors that allow for those type of polycap arms to be plugged into a kit that has those standard arms I've tried that with the wing zero honoo and the transient gundam. It worked out pretty well.
I’m sure somebody’s already pointed this out, but in both a Gunpla Custom Campaign kit, and one of the 30MM expansion packs, there is an adapted that turns a standard shoulder ball joint into 3mm peg, intended for mounting extras in lieu of arms.
Ah, I remember this one. It was my first model kit and I had no idea what a model kit was in 2010. I was about 9 years old. When I opened the box, I was confused why the pieces came in sprues, but I put it together nonetheless. It wasn’t a great model kit, but it showed me the ropes of Gunpla. My local online shop sddnly selling a wicked purple zaku custom from this series..not sure why it appears as you said this is actly an old series. But i do hope u can review that zaku
No exhaust vents, no boosters. Really looks like a toy robot more than a model of a giant fighting robot. Older OO kits seem to have the same shoulder and arm assembly.
The reason for the odd shoulders and upper arm may be because the shoulder style that you showed off on the GTO gundam was still fairly new when the Beginning Gundam came out. 2010 was when I was getting out of Gunpla and the only kits I'd seen with that at the time was the Gouf Custom, the Unicorn, and maaaaybe the Zaku II? Or Zaku I? The pegs coming out of the torso is a lot like older (pre-2010) HGs, especially those pre-2005 like the Seed kits. Same with the pegs coming from the upper arms into the elbow area. I know that some of the 00 kits (like the Archer) were moving toward the shoulders/arms that are more like today's standard, but even the Exia used the old shoulder style, as I recall.
The lightning gundam and the regz come with peg to ball joint parts so basically it has a peg that goes to the standard ball joint so you could use those parts to make the beginnings a compatible with standard gundam torsos
I always thought the Beginning Series was a "Failed Transition" because Age and older 00 kits had "Soulder Pegs", and this line of Kits was to see how to give Shoulder Pegs articulation. Bandai then said screw pegs and went with Ball Joints....
Same with some of the HGUCs of the day. The Jegan and all of its variants, the Jesta, and the GM Powered are all kits that I have built that have ABS shoulder pegs similar to these.
I think the Beginning Gundam needs a Revive treatment to also coincide with the 40th anniversary of Gunpla, though they probably recycled the legs due to how good it is.
Wow... Mecha Gaikotsu, imma be honest... Maybe this kit is just super meta and they made it purposefully shitty so you have to out love and care into it just like the anime 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
As far as I know and owned, the Full armor gundam 7th uses polycap 8 for the torso section, but seeing how awesome that kit itself is by it's own, I really don't think there's a need to replace it's original torso. As for the body to shoulder pegs. that is a very rare attachment type.
AGE kits might have better cross compatibility since they came out about the same time, I know the AGE gundams use a similar peg shoulder joint although theirs are not nearly as limited as the beginning's.
Also, the wird design feature you complain about were fairly common in HGs of around that era. Take the HG Throne Zwei in your backlog, from 2007. It has similar shoulder engineering, except no movement back/forth whatsoever. The HGUC Unicorn, Jegans, etc. have similar shoulder engineering as well. The HGUC Rezel's shoulders were static ball joints, which is even worse. Heck ,the age kits have a similar shoulder structure as well, with a peg from the torso and a peg into the arm. The Beginning's torso/shoulder engineering isn't particularly unusual for its time.
This is from 2010. In 2011, the HG GM II and III came out. Which is where you start seeing the typical swing out polycap design we are so familiar with. Even for 2010, this was the same era as the HG GM type C, which has movable-torso-peg-shoulders too, but it also had an extra arm segment at the elbows, giving it gorrilla arms that can VERY comfortably reach across the torso or get 180 elbow ends. This was an era where they COULD make this good. They just...didn't. Annd for compatibility, even though the Type C uses a weird polycap for the waste (pc-d), that still fits with a normal peg coming from the hips. Sidenote- the Type C is great because it uses weird polycaps in weird ways, but it actually works. You get the feeling some of the polycaps later get replaced with just plastic parts, becuase they realized that those parts didn't need polycaps. Even as a polycap advocate, I'll admit you probably only want them in major load bearing joints. The HG Leos demonstrate this well- they only have polycaps in the hip, leg-hip joint, and ankle joint.
You're literally holding this kit to a different set of standards than the Kshatriya and Gouf Custom. HGUC kits of that era had even less consistent torso designs, but you don't care about that since the show didn't mention it. If you held the other kits you mentioned to the same standard, they would also fail. It's not like the compatibility you're talking about is a feature mentioned on the box. Besides, the show talked about it general, not specific to the Beginning Gundam. Heck, they never really customized anything in the show besides colors except for the Beginning 30 parts, which were custom-designed for this kit in-universe.
I _think_ the Cherudim Gundam and its variants use that PC for its waist, but further up the torso, where the waist bend should be. It would work, but whatever had the Beginning Gundam torso would be weirdly tall, and the other would be a waist shorter. Also you'd still have the shoulder problem. Sidenote: the weird fin inside the lower torso piece on the Cherudim Gundam? cut that off, it limits the torso articulation a hell of a lot for no real gains in stability.
Kind of frustrating when half of the review shows the kit completely different than it looks out of the box. Like with another kit's entire torso and arms.
it may on about how love and skill affect the Gunpla. But undermines itself by having the hero rank up by nepotism and the series treating those who do have love and skill as jokes. Maybe that why this kit turned out like it did.
Man you gotta feel bad for Renji from Build Fighters this was like the first kit he ever built if this was my first kit... well I'd probably still be building, my first kit was the Cheese Master after all
in terms of parts compatibility, only older HGs and SOME newer HGs (e.g.: Gundam AGE-1, AGE-2, AGE-3) are compatible with the Beginning Gundam except the backpack (needs to modify the hard point connectors and plugs).... and as for the neck, shoulder and waist, it needs modifying.... probably the easy solution for that are the joints set that are included in some HGBC kits (e.g.: Binder Gun)

Sidenote: the weird fin inside the lower torso piece on the Cherudim Gundam? cut that off, it limits the torso articulation a hell of a lot for no real gains in stability.

While watching this, looking at that clear vfin, I've been thinking of a way to clean those safety flags without ruining the clear plastic.
Gundam exia hg
Kind of frustrating when half of the review shows the kit completely different than it looks out of the box. Like with another kit's entire torso and arms.
it may on about how love and skill affect the Gunpla. But undermines itself by having the hero rank up by nepotism and the series treating those who do have love and skill as jokes. Maybe that why this kit turned out like it did.
Man you gotta feel bad for Renji from Build Fighters this was like the first kit he ever built
if this was my first kit... well I'd probably still be building, my first kit was the Cheese Master after all
Whats a cheese master?
Im gona go check it out
i love the triple beam saber but the mobile suit sucks plus i have one question what the fack is the beginning gundam based on
I think FOREVER GUNDAM has the same torso ... I need to find it first ... I don't remember where I put it
and the Zaku from the WAR GROUND SET ...
Man, the Graze Kai was my first ever Gunpla kit I ever built when IBO was being aired on Toonami
It may be bad but I still want multiple of it and it’s other forms the duplicates will be used for parts especially the beam blade antennas
in terms of parts compatibility, only older HGs and SOME newer HGs (e.g.: Gundam AGE-1, AGE-2, AGE-3) are compatible with the Beginning Gundam except the backpack (needs to modify the hard point connectors and plugs).... and as for the neck, shoulder and waist, it needs modifying.... probably the easy solution for that are the joints set that are included in some HGBC kits (e.g.: Binder Gun)
Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning G wasn't that great IMO, but this definitely was a preview of what eventually became things like Gundam Build Fighters ~ Gundam Build Divers RE: Rise.
I think it would've been great if Bandai makes an RG or MG of at least:
GPB-X80 Beginning Gundam
GPB-X80-30F Beginning 30 Gundam
GPB-X80D Beginning D Gundam
-- GPB-X80D Beginning D Gundam "Qan(T)"
-- GPB-X80D Perfect Beginning D Gundam
-- GPB-X80DJ Beginning DJ Gundam
GPB-X80J Beginning J Gundam
-- GPB-X80J/7S Beginning J Gundam Seven Sword
-- GPB-X80JFA Beginning J Gundam Burning Cloth

Yeah, that wasn't great in your opinion
And I remember your comment in Animesuki, when the original Build Fighters was first revealed, you easily dismissed it back then, with you saying stuffs like robot plamo fighting is stupid.
But then GBF became popular, and you easily eat your harsh words on it too. You then spam _wishlists_ and hoard *BOXES* of them (because you're being *REKT* by your *COWARDICE* to actually build a kit again) 🤪
'I think it would've been great if Bandai makes an RG *BOX* or MG *BOX* of at least:
[Cue _wishlists_ ]"
_Fixed_ 😉
PS I think it would've been great too if you comment also about HGUC Xi Gundam being *NOT* a P-Bandai huehuehue
IIRC PC8 is used on all 1/144 No grade Wing kits. I bought the whole collection as a kid and I remember putting a polycap between two pieces of torso. Now, the 1/144 No grade Wing kits are definitely NOT HG quality. They are cheap, use tons of stickers and have poor posability. I could be wrong since I built them 20 years ago.
I love how he say negative and honestly review his gunplas in a calm way XD
The only thing I can think that use 8 pc for waist would be grunt suits form 00
